Marie looked forward to the Founder’s Day Ball every year, and had done since she’d moved to Cresthill. It gave her a proper excuse to dress up in a ballgown, toss out her combat boots for the night and really just relax. Drinking tequila’s in the local bar didn’t quite give her the same thrill. This year it was almost bitter-sweet with the death of Katya, having considered her a friend as well as the mayor. “They did a good job with the ball. It’s not too sad in memory of Katya, but not too happy that she’s forgotten. Plus the champagne is very good.”
