Just a few days until I fly to Indiana for my first GenCon!
Doctor Who LARP at GenCon 2014
Join us for one, two, or three days at 7PM
Thursday: Time of the Companions - LRP1454083
Friday: Planet of the Companions - LRP1454084
Saturday: War of the Companions - LRP1454085
It's been a long journey for you with the the mysterious yet kind-hearted alien time traveler known as the Doctor. Together you've faced malevolent foes, visited strange and beautiful alien worlds, and met extraordinary people you'll never forget.
Or maybe your journey is just beginning.
Whatever the case, you find yourself in his deceptively large craft the TARDIS, but the Doctor's nowhere to be found. Instead, you've found yourself with a bunch of strangers who also claim to have traveled with the Doctor!
Where is the Doctor? Why are you locked in the TARDIS? What is this sinking feeling that only YOU can save the day?
Join us at Gen Con 2014 for three days exploring the adventures of all-new companions of the Doctor! Attendance at all three days not required but highly suggested. Registration links:

Gettin’ Kind of Crowded In My Sky (A LARP in the Firefly ‘Verse)
GenCon Indy - Thursday, 11AM - LRP145081
So you're mindin' your own business, flyin' your ship out towards the rim, and all of a sudden you get a message: Reavers are about, their ships look to be circling through the system. Best everybody lay low in case they're huntin'.
Five ships set down on the only moon fit for human life and powered down for the night, hopin' the Reavers would pass you on by with no lights to draw them in.
One ship's full of settlers, lookin' for a new life and no trouble as they push on further out.
One ship's full of Alliance, on a mission they ain't like to talk about.
One ship's got another ship inside it, one of them one-man racing ships only the richest can afford -- and the kind of rich asshole that flies one.
One ship's just full of traders, lookin' to stay flyin' and make their money legit.
Make that two ships of legit traders. Entirely legit traders, officer, why do you ask? That's a mighty shiny badge you got there, lemme hold it a sec.
Not a group of folks you'd normally see lay down peaceable like, but needs must. You all went to bed intent on sleepin' through the worst of it an' heading your separate ways in the morning.
Then comes the morning, and with it the wrong kind of trouble: a dead body, a sabotaged engine, an' a whole lot of things missing.
So much for live and let live - ain't nobody leavin' til the piper gets paid.

This weekend I was lucky enough to attend #GenCon14. The first national conference for students on gender issues, hosted by The USI and The YFactor facilitated through The National Women's Council.
We discussed a wide range of issues from Heteronormativity and gender binaries, to Trans* activism and pro-choice politics. The speakers were so knowledgeable and committed to their activism that it truly inspired everyone in attendance.
Words cannot describe how refreshing it was to see people of every age, and from every walk in life coming together, leaving prescribed gender norms at the door and engaging in thought-provoking debates. Gender, sexuality and conversation were all so fluid and there was such acceptance for everyone, no matter what their expression or identity was, which really hit home for me how wonderfully accepting the student population can be.
I walk away from the weekend with a much greater knowledge and have been inspired by everyone I have met, to engage further with my activism and ensure I continue pushing Social Justice issues to the forefront whenever possible.
Had an amazing weekend at Ireland’s first gender conference in Galway
It was unbelievable to be among a large group of people for a whole weekend where gender was just fluid, not a thing. It’s hard to explain and very weird/great to be around. Everyone had a name tag that said their name, college, and pronouns.
I got really embarrassingly drunk on Friday also. Sang Lady Marmalade in front of everyone in the NUIG bar
I don’t understand why everyone is not a feminist. I don’t understand why gender and gender roles/expectations are so heavily policed when it’s so damaging. Also some people are so amazing and admirable that it’s hard to comprehend.
