It appears that more girls have been killed in the last 50 years, precisely because they were girls, than men were killed in all the battles of the twentieth century. More girls are killed in this routine 'gendercide' in any one decade than people were slaughtered in all the genocides of the twentieth century.

Gender Statistics
NOTE: I know I am not the best person out there to be saying what I am about to say, but I hope you can at least hear me out.
We have all seen something like "Men have larger brains than women" or "Women can multitask better than men" either on the internet or in a book. Now at first this annoyed me. At first it was because of an egotistical reason, almost as if I was a king and this messenger just insulted my honor. Then I grew up a little and found a more reasonable reason to not like these statistics. These sort of statistics seem to continue the division between men and women, at a time where the idea is that women finally get more of a say in the current global system. This is a time for us to progress in society and free ourselves of chains of the past, and then come these statistics to go about creating arrogance on both sides of the spectrum. Later on, it seem to not phase me anymore, because these sort of statistics do not necessarily reflect everyone out there. Certain ones do if they are more related to something objective or concrete, but if it's as tripe as "52% of women like the color pink", then it is irrelevant. But what about the ones that are more factual, the ones that can be backed up by science and tons and tons of research? What if they say something that makes men look inferior to women or vice versa?
Here is a theory, and maybe I could be wrong on it but perhaps if we took every one of those statistics into account, we would see that men and women are the same. In design, we're not equal, that's for sure, but when we balance out what makes each gender inferior or superior to each other, we would end up fairly leveled to each other. Think of it in the context of a Swiss Army knife. You could puncture a hole in a bottle cap with a knife and drink beer from the hole, but you would much rather use a bottle opener, right? In certain situations that we find ourselves in, we will have the upper hand based on our gender and in other situations we will not. The difference of genders should not be solely based upon that we are either male or female, but rather what specific abilities that each of us possess.
We should not let our differences be subject to double standards or stereotypes, because those are what create the sort of statistics that do not represent the true capabilities of the genders, especially women. This is a time where we are finally understanding more about the world around us, a time where we can be more accepting of other societies and culture, a time of growth. Our differences should not be used to reduce salary or restrict us of actions but rather be used to properly fix the greater problems ahead. Statistics can say whatever they want, but only we can push forward so that these statistics reflect a society that is moving forward.
