I found this handy list of Japanese terms for gender bending. However not all of these terms are PC, and they have a lot of nuance. But it’s an interesting list none the less. I’m going to try my hand at defining them. Feel free to correct me on any of this.
Otokonoko - MAAB person who presents feminine. Can be either transwoman, non-binary, or a cis-man who likes to cross dress.
Hideyoshi - Reference to a specific cis-male character. However it’s used to reference someone of ambiguous gender. As I understand it, this is sometimes used to reference a desirable androgynous character.
Onnanoko - FAAB person who presents masculine. Can be either transman, non-binary, or a cis-woman who likes to cross dress.
Okama - MAAB person who presents feminine. It can reference a trans person, a drag queen, and the above two in sex work. This term is usually tied to clownishness. Some reclaim the term but others see it as offensive.
New Half - A trans person can be a transwoman or a transman.
Futanari - Someone with both male and female gentiles, typically female presenting with breasts. This is typically in reference to a particular type of pornography, and not used to reference actual intersex people.
Onabe - The flipside of Okama. A FAAB person who presents masculine. A term that was tied to performances. Some see it as an offensive term, while others identify with it.
Josou - MAAB typically a straight cis-man who cross-dresses for fun.
Dansou - FAAB typically a straight cis-woman who cross-dresses for fun
Nekama - A cis-man who plays a female character online.
Nenabe - A cis-woman who plays a male character online
Nyotaika - A cis-man is magically/supernaturally transformed into a woman. Does not mean transgender, typically these swaps aren’t viewed positively by the one being transformed.
Nantaika - A cis-woman is magically/supernaturally transformed into a woman. Does not mean transgender, typically these swaps aren’t viewed positively by the one being transformed.
