wait yo about your non-binary gender swap post, i just wanted to say that... at least in terms of visual art, gender /expression/ is what is being swapped. you could draw a character completely canonically and say that in this picture, they identify as a gender other than what they identify as in the series. someone could /be/ a demigirl, but not look like however a demigirl is """supposed""" to look... all i think is that, descriptors like fem! and masc! and andro! suffice... (before i start bc i dunno where i'd fit this in, i'm talking about when people say for a fact that the character IS the other binary gender (and sex). if it's just presentation being changed, that character can def still be nb)
yes, that's true, someone could say a character identifies with another gender... but the thing is that no one does. in (almost) everything i've ever seen, it's not gender presentation that's being swapped; it's explicitly stated to be the character's gender, as well as their presentation.
when they're doing 'gender swaps' i highly, highly doubt a lot of them are thinking in their mind "okay, this one's a demigirl even though she presents in a feminine way." my point was that, in 'genderswaps,' 99% of the time what happens is either:
1) (assumed) cis girl character is made into a cis boyor2) (assumed) cis boy is made into a cis girl
it's DEFINITELY awesome when people fuck around with presentation and gender identities. it's only the fact that the ONLY things people state clearly that they're changing a girl character into a boy character or vice versa, both before and after assumed to be cis.
like the problematic parts are:
1) implication of an 'opposite' gender2) little to nothing with nonbinary genders, not even ones that present femininely or masculinely. just. none at all.3) equation of gender and sex-- people will change a cis girl into a cis boy, for example, changing sex too instead of JUST changing gender or presentation.
i dont know if that makes sense but if u have questions ask bc im 99% sure we're both on the same side here but theres misunderstanding somewhere
(also i'm not exactly sure how to word the parts that talk about sex right so as to not exclude intersex people so if i said something wrong or anyone has tips on that feel free to say so)
