guys, hear me out. What about Sam Monroe, played by Hayden Christensen, as a fan cast for Gene? I mean, look at him - he has black hair, just like Gene.

He has piercings, and I can totally see Gene with piercings. Plus, he's hot!

In the movie, he's an angsty teen with an attitude problem, but later in the movie, he gets better.
