General Roots - Little Sun
This is why I love the London sound. There isn’t just one sound, only culture and those willing to share it.
I met a nice guy on Omegle (something that doesn't happen often) who's in a reggae band, a good one! So if you like reggae, check out General Roots on YouTube and Facebook!
Last Sunday I spent the day with my friend and his Skater son at the Southbank skate park. Finnian Martin is seven years old, and already a very talented skater. Here are some pictures from the day. This was an event held by Skateistan.
Skateistan began as a Kabul-based Afghan NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) and is now an International non-profit charity providing skateboarding and educational programming in Afghanistan and Cambodia. Skateistan is non-political, independent, and inclusive of all ethnicities, religions and social backgrounds.
General Roots are playing at the next Vibes & Pressure at Passing clouds in Dalston this Friday! Check out this coool cover of Triston Palmer's song 'Joker Smoker'.....Joorrka Smoorrka!
General Roots
General Roots are a seven piece reggae band created in 2009. Growing up in the same area of North London with a shared love of dub and danchall reggae, they were eager to reignite the power and flavour of the reggae movement through the latter part of the 20th century. The Generals are on a mission to bring a new sound to people’s ears whilst capturing the classic sound and feel that was coming out of Jamaica during the 1970′s and 80′s. General Roots live shows come with high energy vibes and feel good sound, Guaranteed! Field Marshall Freddie Bado and The Minister always lead the crowd into battle, supported by dark echoes and treble heavy chops from guitarists Joe Price and Elliot Bird, powerful keys from King Solomon Boundy and the best rhythm section in town, James and Ben McKone. These brothers even give Sly & Robbie a run for their money. The combination of dark dub, lovers rock and dancehall with attitude always keep the audience on their feet, with the riddims dictating which way to bump, grind and skank! The band are fairly new in the UK underground scene but are quickly making a name for themselves, earning support slots for established acts such as Gentleman’s Dub Club, Submotion Orchestra and The Drop. With plans for an EP and tour in the early part of 2012, the roots have only just been planted. Watch this space!
