hii! this is my alt so its gonna be anonymous BUT I LOVE UR VN SO MUCH I LOVE THE CHARACTER DESIGNS AND I LOVE IT OVERALL ITS SO GOOD MIGHT BE ONE OF MY FAVS :PP ALSO!! do u have any tips on how to make a vn ?

My tips on making a visual novel ☆

Disclaimer: I have a specific preference on making my VNs, and I always try to make them solid and almost movie-like. I'm not a professional, so please take this as personal advice only :)

1. Make an initial visual moodboard. It's definitely adjustable later, and you can see how your vision becomes more cohesive as you develop the story.

2. OUTLINES ARE CRUCIAL!! 😭 Don't be too stuck on it that you won't write anything at all, but don't dive in too deep with no outline. A big part of my script-writing is outlining and deciding how things would go, in bullet points or mind maps.

3. Use the 5W + 1H to help build many things. Plot, analysis of existing VNs, characters, etc.

4. Recognize your preferences. What do you like, and what do you dislike in existing VNs? What do you want to convey? Etc.

5. If you use Google Docs, turn off smart quotes before you type your script, so it's easier to transfer to Visual Studio Code.

6. If you just started, I suggest making a very short VN first, purely to test the technicalities of the art, writing, and coding, since they really overlap. There is a lot you can learn from making a short, several-hundred word game!

7. If you can, try to customize the UI. It can be really simple, but really effective.

8. Pay attention to music and ambience. I personally think it's an often overlooked aspect that makes or breaks a scene.

9. Make it exist first. You can make it good later :)

I’m not actually familiar with music players so I wouldn’t be able to help, but Theme Hunter has a bunch of tutorials that should help!

HIIII first off, i really loved your vn loving decay !!! <333 AAACCKK THE WRITING THE PREMISE THE ART!!!! THE ART!!! THE WRITING im gnawing at the bars of my enclosure. sorry. id like to write an actual review later once ive collected myself but just. agh!! every ending was so fun to play!!! had to physically close my laptop a few times i was so stressed!!! the character interactions are a joy to read i LOVE all of the characters!! the side characters are all so memorable and chao is so interesting!!! getting to unravel the plot alongside the protagonists’ descent into. GAH. i wont speak much on the rest in case anyone comes across this ask. but i loved it. (and the censors!!! the payoff!!!! AAAGGHHH ITS SO CLEVER)

ALL THAT TO ASK i was wondering about your stance on fan content. i had an idea for a fic set after the events of ending four but i wanted to ask your permission first !! <33 AGAIN your work is lovely thank you for creating it !!

Hi, I recently found your Theme #4, and I intend on installing it. I don't know a thing about coding, so I was wondering if I could have your help with something? Which part of the code do I need to change in order to replace the pictures? Feel free to take your time getting back to me, I understand that I'm kind of asking out of the blue. ^^

Hi, check out this tutorial here. It’ll teach you how to install the theme (if you haven’t already) and use the options to customize it, just start from step three. Some themes might require you to go into the code a bit, most will tell you at the beginning of the code, but Theme 4 doesn’t require any of that.

Hi, if you mean links in general, you can add those in where all the colour options are. But if you wanted to add a music player to your blog, I’m not familiar with those but Theme Hunter has a bunch of tutorials on adding them into blogs.

hi! so i just started using theme 17, and i've been trying to edit the about tab, but i'm not really sure what you mean by using ctrl+f. i'm sorry if it's a stupid question, but i know nothing about coding. thanks!

Hi anon, when I say use ctrl+f, I’m talking about the keys on your keyboard. If you go into your HTML code and hold down the ctrl and F keys together (command and F on mac I believe??) then a search box should come up. That should help you find the code you’re looking for really easily.

Hey, im using theme 19 and i cant get the messages to work? ive put my blog name where it states but when i test it all i get is an error page? do you have any fixes for this, please?

Hi anon, to have asks to work you have to put in your blog username where it says to in the code and make sure you have your asks switched on. If those are both done then it should be working fine. If not then send me a link to your blog and I can check it out for you.

Hello! I'm using theme #20. I was wondering if there was a way to have the post width wider then 500px? I've fiddled with the html a bit myself and I can manage to widen the posts by changing the width value under '.post', but the like/reblog buttons are stuck floating in the middle of the infobox and the tags won't fill the whole infobox either. Is there any way to fix that, or a more efficient way to widen the posts? Thankyou for all the work you do ^^

Hi anon! Unfortunately there isn’t really an easy way to widen the posts, tumblr just leaves you with a max size of 500px, but if you got the post size changed then afterward you can go under

and change the width in the table there. That should help out. You’ll probably also have to change the pagination one too, you can find that after the infobox div starting at {block:Pagination}

This should also work for most other themes too.
