Generated Detective 1, 2, and 3 by Greg Borenstein
For NaNoGenMo Greg Borenstein has generated a series of detective comics. First the storyline is generated by pulling out short sentences from a corpus of old detective novels (from the Gutenberg project) that contain keywords such as murder, witness, murder and so on. These sentences are then used as search queries on Flickr and images are manually chosen. These are then filtered through a Processing script that breaks the image down into three colors: white, black, and gray. The gray areas it fills in with 45 degree lines. It also uses openCV to find and highlight contours. Finally the script adds the text at the bottom in a complimentary comic typeface. The code is available on Github.
