Olan walked determinedly toward the sandbox outside. He had seen one of his other classmates run that way earlier and that made him incredibly curious.
At the box he found another boy. He sat on the edge of the sandbox, shoulders shaking with tiny sobs. Olan sad down next to him ans rubbed his back in comfort.
"Hey, don't let Wade oush you around okay? He's dumb anyway. Here, we can play together in the sand if you want." Olan reached out for a shovel.
"Thanks, I'm Ryker by the way." Ryker smiled and nudged his new friend to get his attention and shake his hand.
Olan stuck his out too and the polite exchange was nice until Olan noticed Ryker's sharp... Nails? No, claws.
"You.... You?" He babbled and looked at Ryker's face for the first time since he had sat down.
His ears poked out in points, his brow extended, eyes glowing and hair thick and messy all over.
"I'm what?" as he spoke Olan could see his fangs.
"You're...you're a werewolf!" he yanked his hand away
"Yeah, I change when I get upset but, I;m getting better. My daddy is helping me."
"I...I, I have to go!"
The young hunter turned and ran for the classroom, thankful that school was almost out. He had just run into a werewolf and he needed to tell his dads.
"You ready Pete?" Tony put a hand on his son's shoulder to comfort him, or maybe it was to comfort himself, I mean Peter was starting school today, he was growing fast and it was hard for Tony to keep up
"Well, I was but, Daddy what if I don't make any friends, or worse, what if Merida doesn't make any friends and I'm stuck with her all year?"
"You'll do great Peter, after all, Cap here raised you right." Tony gestured to his husband.
"You helped Tony! But he is right Peter." Steve knelt to the boy's level, placing both hands on his shoulders.
"You are extraordinary and will have no problems making friends." Placing a kiss on his forehead, the pair made their goodbyes.
"Be good sport. We love you!"
"You remember the rules?"
"Don't blow yer cover, no bows at school and be nice to the teacher, even if she's daft."
"Good, I think she's ready Nat, what do you think?" Clint looked to the red head for a response.
"I think she'll do great. Just remember Merida," Kneeling down to her daughter Natasha lent forward to share a secret.
"Boys are dumb, don't let them push you around."
"Never!"
"Now, you won't hesitate to call us if something goes wrong?"
Loki looked at his eldest son, concerned about his adjustment into this new school life.
"He shall be fine Loki, after all, he is your child. He has your wit and sharp tongue. None shall cross him without scorn," Thor informed his husband smugly
"I know, but I worry.Children can be so cruel. Maybe we should get him a tutor, or I could teach him."
"Loki we agreed, he needs to be with other kids!"
"Um... Excuse me." Norbert's voice silenced them both.
"Can I just go to school now?"
"You two are being ridiculous, I will be fine and return to you by 3 this afternoon." Sebastian's eyes rolled as he fathers worried.
"We know Seb, it's just, well. How do I put this?" John struggled for words
"As much as I would like you to, Your father does not want you to insult the other children, or teacher's intelligence." Sherlock was blunt about it, knowing Sebastian would understand him just fine.
"I promise not to say anything to their face, though I make no promises for when their back is turned."
John let out a sigh.
"I guess that's as good as we're gonna get."
"Ok Wade, now, don't shot anyone with anything." Sebastian reminded his son
"Unless it's that Holmes kid." Jim chimed in.
"And remember to speak nicely. Don't curse at anyone."
"Unless it's the Holmes kid."'and play nice, don't hit anyone."
"Unless..."
"It's the Holmes kid. I got it Mum, can I go now?" Wade rolled his eyes
"Sure thing. Be good."
"Yeah whatever." Was Wade's only answer as he headed toward the door.
"You gonna be okay Olan? I mean if you want to wait we can put you in next year." Dean looked at his son with concern.
"Dad it's fine. I mean if any of them turn out to be monsters I'll gank 'em. Like you taught me right?"
"Or you could focus on being a kid for once. I mean have fun, play with other kids. Don't focus so much on being a hunter."
"What your father is trying to say Olanriel is he wants you to be a normal kid for as long as possible. To have what he didn't." Cas to the rescue yet again.
"Oh. Okay, I'll try my best." Olan wrapped his arms around both his fathers. "I love you guys. I'll miss you."
"We'll miss you too Olan. Have fun okay?"
"Hey Jonny, here take this okay?"
Gabriel handed his son a brown paper sack, Jonny wirtten in perfect swirly handwriting.
"Don't tell Daddy you have it but, I thought it might make you feel better. I mean if you get scared or something."
Jonny peered inside the bag. It was full of his favorite candies that his Daddy never let him have as much as he wanted them.
"Thanks Papa. I love you lots! See you later k?"
"K, Jonny. Have fun."
Gabe walked back to his hunter as his son hurried off.
"Was that bag filled with what I think it was filled with?" Sam gave him that look
"What can I say, I have a soft spot for the little guy and his sweet tooth."
"Papa this is so unfair. You run a school, why can't you teach me?" Cooper pulled at Erik's pant legs pleading.
"Because silly one, you need to be with children like you. Tell me, would you have any fun in training with the students at our academy?"
"I guess you're right, but Papa I'll miss you. And Daddy will miss me too much, I can't go!"
"Cooper I will keep your father company, I promise he will miss you but he will have me as company."
"Okay. Take care of Daddy, Papa. I'll be home soon. I love you!" Blowing his father a kiss like they do. A little game they share just the two of them
"I love you too Cooper." Erik blew his son a little kiss back as he marched toward the school.
"And what do you do if you get too upset and wolf out?" Stiles quizzed their son one more time before he left.
"Stop, take a breath, count to ten and breath deep."
"and if that doesn't work?"
"Think of my pull. What calms me down, what keeps me going."
"And what's your pull Ryker?"
"My daddy!" Ryker said as he looked to Derek for approval. Derek responded with a half smile, still so unused to showing emotion.
Seeing how distraught Ryker became after his dad's reaction Stiles brought his attention back to him.
"Hey, we both love you no matter what yeah?" A kiss was dropped on the little wolf's forehead.
Ryker nodded and started to leave.
"Love you Ryker." a gruff voice called out.
Ryker turned to see Derek had said it.
"Love you too Daddy!" He beamed and ran toward the school.
"Lunch?"
"Check.
"Emergency com?"
"Check"
"Coat?"
"Check"
"Well Bryce I think you're ready for your first day of school!" Jack patted his son's shoulders as he stud.
"Have fun Bryce. Be good and remember, don't..."
"Tell stories about seing you and Papa naked...EVER!"
"Jack I think he's got it." Ianto stopped his husband's drills.
"Tad, do they have coffee at kindergarten?" Bryce looked to Ianto.
"Why don't you go find out huh?" and with a little push Bryce was on his way.
Ianto turned to Jack then, a sad smile on his face.
"He's gonna be okay Jack." he says as he held the immortal close.
"So Puck, think you're ready for this?" Darcy sent him a sideways glance
"Of course! It'.s just kids man. Kids love puckzilla!"
"I wouldn't be so quick to decide. I mean these aren't exactly normal kids."
"Hey, a kid is a kid. It's nothing I can't handle. Who do we have who's so difficult anyway?"
"Where do I start!" The brunette thought it over for a few seconds.
"First there's Olan and Jonny Winchester, half angel and half hunter. Olan has more energy than he can handle and Jonny takes after Gabe, which mean tricks all day."
"Man I used to prank my teacher all the time. That won't be an issue."
"Then we have Bryce Harkness who's known what sex was since he could walk. Wade Wilson, son of a trained assassin Jim Moriarty himself. Oh Sebastian Holmes, who is smarter than we are and isn't afraid to insult you if you cross him."
"Okay that's a little tougher but I'm badass enough to take them!"
"Just be nice to Peter, Norbert and Merida, their parents are all superheros. Ever heard of the Avengers?"
Puck gulped
Oh and we can't forget Cooper, his parents are Charles Xavier and Erik Lencher, not ones you want to go toe to toe with."
"Oh, well. Um..."
"Oh and keep Ryker calm. If he gets too upset he'll turn into a wolf. Werewolves are so finicky so be careful."
"God Darcy! Are there any kids who aren't terrifying?"
"Well, there's Toronto Anderson. I believe you know his parents."
Anderson, as in Kurt and Blaine? Yes! I knew they'd make it."
"I bet you did, now pony up cowboy, we have some extraordinary kids to look after!"
The young boy smiled with pride at his father. He had finally wrangle Charles into teaching him how to play the game his fathers seemed to love so much. Now he was finally getting the hang of it and couldn't get enough of the board game.
"Alright, we're gonna play for real now. And no mind reading!"
----
A little mop of brown hair peered into the estate lab, looking for the mass of blue fur.
"Hank? Hank, will you play chess with me please?" His little arms full of board and pieces.
Hank looked up from the delicate machinery,
"Sorry bud. I have a lot of work to finish, why don't you ask Sean."
-----
"Sorry, kid." Sean answered him. "I've got a heap of training to do today. My flying skills are rusty. You should check Alex."
-----
Cooper quietly snuck into Alex's room. He was about to ask him to join him a game of chess but Alex and Darwin was doing that stupid kissing thing his dad's do so he decided to ask them later.
-----
"Papa? I know it's your quiet time but can I ask you something?"
Erick and Charles had set the system up. an hour or two of "quiet time" a day to keep them relaxed. After all running a home for wayward mutants was stressful.
"Of course you can Cooper. What is it?"
"Well, I finally learned how to play chess but no one will play with me. Daddy always cheats, Hank has science to do, Sean is flying and Alex and Darwin are being gross. Will you play with me Papa? Please!"
Erik had to chuckle at this. Only Cooper could get himself into such a dilemma.
"Of course Coop. Why don't you set it up."
And so they played. Cooper awed at Erik when he moved the pieces with his mutation and if he let Cooper win a game or two, well, no one had to know.
"Da-ad..." Jonny said, backing away slowly from the figures that had simply appeared in front of the television, interrupting his video game. He dropped the controller on the floor, watching the strangers while they approached him.
Just get them inside the devils trap. Just get them over the rug...
He smirked once they had, grinning and folding his arms. "Dumbasses," he spat.
"What did you say?" The woman, the apparent leader of the strangers, said, head cocked.
"Well, you're stuck now," he giggled, hopping up on the couch and snatching up the bowl of M&Ms from the end table. "Stupid demons, always walking into devil's traps."
The woman took a pointed step forward, off the rug.
The bowl clattered to the floor. "DADDY!" He ran past her, bolting toward his room. "DADDY, HELP!"
He screamed when arms wrapped around his waist, lifting him off the ground and pressing him against the wall.
"Where is your father, bastard? Where is the traitor?" The woman demanded, pressing him against the wall, eyes cold and flat. Jonny squirmed and fought against her grip, grunting when she pressed too hard.
"LET ME GO!" He bellowed. "DADDY!"
"Jonny?!" Sam appeared at the end of the hall, having heard his son from the garage. His jaw flexed, going for the angel blade in his jacket.
"Get away from him, now, before this gets uglier than he has to."
"Tell us where the traitor is or I'll snap your bastard's neck," she growled.
"Daddy..." Jonny whimpered.
"Okay, okay!" Sam exclaimed, smiling to reassure his child and slowly lowering the blade to the floor. "It's okay, buddy. It's alright. I'm gonna fix this, okay?"
"WHERE?" The woman screamed, holding Jonathon by the back of his neck.
"He's not here!" Sam exclaimed. "He's not here, just-just let my kid go, please. He didn't do anything, he doesn't-"
"When will he be back?" She snarled.
"Ruth, Ruth, Ruth." Everyone turned, revealing Gabriel at the other end of the hallway. "Always so aggressive."
"I knew you'd come eventually," she grinned, still holding the trembling child.
"And here I am. Now drop the kid before I get angry," he warned, smirking.
Jonathon gasped when his feet hit the floor, backing against the opposite wall and sliding closer to Sam, who held out his arms, waiting for him.
"Why don't we take this outside?" Gabriel offered, seeing the fear in his son's eyes.
"No."
The fighting started immediately. Sam tucked Jonny into the coat closet, carefully placing his hands over his ears, smiling. "Don't stop singing until I come back, okay?" The child nodded and his father disappeared.
Jonny closed his eyes, singing the last song he'd heard his more angelic father humming in the car before lunch today, singing as loud as he could. "Uptown girl, she's been living in her uptown world..."
~*~
No one was winning, or losing at this point. Just constant fighting, charred remains of a few of their wings on the walls. Even still, five against two wasn't the best of odds.
Sam was bruised, aching, arm raised and ready to plunge his sword into the angel in front of him's chest-
Then everything went white. And when it all cleared Sam was in the hall alone.
He gasped for a moment, confused. "Jonny?"
The child had crawled from the closet, a sigil painted onto the wall and a cut on his little arm. He leaned beside it, crying, sniffling, still singing. "She's my uptown girl, you know I'm in love with an uptown girl..."
"Jonny," Sam said softly, gently turning his face. The child sniffed again, looking at him.
"I-I didn't know what else to do. I-I got scared. I didn't mean to send Dad away, I'm sorry," he cried.
"Shh, it's okay, it's okay. You did good, really good, okay? Shh..." Sam soothed, gathering him in his arms. "Let's get this cut fixed up, okay?"
~*~
Gabriel popped back into the room, sighing, seeing how late it was while he stood in the kitchen. He made his way down the hall, looking into Jonathon's room. He was sitting in his bed, knees in his chest, sniffling.
"Hey, bud," he smiled. His eyes flicked up to his father, tears instantly welling in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I couldn't think of anything else-"
"Shh... Hey," he whispered, sitting beside him and pulling him into his lap. "Hush now, look at me." He thumbed tears off his cheeks, kissing his forehead. "You were so brave, so strong, buddy. Thank you. We can handle this better now, plan for it, and get your precious self out of the way too. Thank you, Jonny."
He rocked him gently, smoothing his hair. "It's alright, baby. Just sleep. My brave boy..." He shut his eyes. "So like your dad."
"Now Mommy you gots to hold the bow just right or it'll never fly where you want it."
Natasha listened to her daughter carefully. She hadn't seen her in awhile and was having trouble on how to spend time with her when she spent all her time practicing her archery.
The assassin chuckled at her daughter.
"Like this Miss Merida?" Holding the bow obviously wrong.
"No Mommy!" A heavy sigh escaped her "Maybe archery isn't your thing Mommy. We can practice throwing knives. You're great at that!"
"Or you could run before I.....Tickle you to death!"
She attacked the little red head then. Grabbing her around the waist and tickling her sides. Merida let out a string of giggles that warmed the Russian's heart. Merida was truly the light in her life. Setting her down the tone suddenly got tense.
"Mer, you know Mommy and Daddy love you right? And even though we can't be with you all the time we want to every second? You understand that right?"
"A'course Mommy. You and Daddy have important jobs and if you were with me all the time you couldn't save people. I wanna be a superhero when I grow up too."
"Alright! Now why don't you show me how to hold the bow again?"
