On Tuesday July 26th Tim Commerford and his Wakrat band mates Mathias and Laurent pulled off one of the most outrageous political manoeuvres in the history of punk rock.

Accompanied by a small army of supporters, Wakrat descended on Parliament Square in an iconic red London bus emblazoned with the message #GenerationFucked on both sides turning the heads of thousands of bemused onlookers.

In defiance of SOCPA law banning protests in Parliament Square. The highly illegal activity which followed broke no fewer than 5 separate laws under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act.

The protesters raged outside Westminster for over 30 minutes, directing much of their anger through megaphones at Parliament and refused to move after security threatened to call the police. Planting a giant flag on Parliaments front lawn, Commerford declared the square shall now be known as 'Republic Of Wakrat' and read a section of the constitution though a megaphone: “This new state welcomes everyone of all ethnicities, backgrounds, genders, generations, sexualities dis/abilities and faiths and offers a fresh alternative to the current system - we stand for equality and free movement. The current system is oppressive and elitist, promoting racist ideologies in order to push a self-serving agenda whilst an entire generation is put jeopardy. We condemn this behavior and Republic Of Wakrat exists to expose it. Anyone is welcome to join our nation if they have had enough of the current system." Commerford highlights an ancient loophole which gives them the authority to start The Republic of Wakrat on what was formerly known as Parliament Square. The land now known as Westminster is actually an island called Thorney Island. Originally the property of King Offa back in the 700's, Wakrat claim that it has never been officially claimed by anyone else: "this area remains the property of King Offa, Mercian King under his charter which is in [Westminster] Abbey". Welcome to the poorest generation since the Great Depression.  Promised a Pax Americana fueled by infinite economic growth and technological advance, we've instead been offered the "new normal" of constant war, economic collapse and environmental catastrophe. We've grown up faced with the imminent threat of the largest, most extensive prison system the world has ever seen. We are constantly surveilled, our phone calls monitored and internet browsing recorded by new federal agencies designed for the purpose. We were raised in an era of barbaric apartheid, where police can stop you, frisk you and ask for your documents at will--where words like "illegal," "thug," "criminal," and "felon," are thinly coded racial slurs, with all the connotations of their predecesors.  We have many names. We are the Millennials because we represent the turning of an era. We are Generation Fucked because, well, obviously. And we are Generation Zero, because zero is what we've been left with. Zero wealth, zero freedom, zero future. We have nothing to our names but war, debt and a crippled environment. Going forward, we only have each other. Our future's been looted. It's time to loot back.
