Chance is terrible with birthdays and doing nice things for others, but he always tries to do something for the kids for their birthdays. Genesis is the one he finds the easiest because she's so highly food-motivated that he just finds some sort of carnival somewhere and buys her a bunch of greasy food and delivers it to her apartment.
A quick breakdown of how the pups see their familial dynamics.
Cadi: older sister/semi-parent, views Chance more like an owner than anything parental, occasionally acts as a something of a service dog (her choice, mutually beneficial to her and Chance). Legally had custody of Sable, Salem, and Genesis after she turned 21. Chance legally adopted her before she turned 18. Views Chance's kids as almost like cousins
Sable: views Cadi as her older sister (which she is) and Salem and Genesis as her younger siblings (they are biologically her niece and nephew but she grew up with them). Views Chance as more of an uncle and Vaughn as a brother in law. Views Chance's kids more like cousins, similar to Cadi.
Genesis: views Cadi as a mix of mom and older sister, Sable solely as her sister. Salem is her twin and she does view him as such. Vaughn is a weird mix of uncle and dad, Chance is a weird mix of dad and grandfather. She often refers to Chance as her grandfather only because, legally, that's his role in her life. Has a more complicated view of Chance's kids but is also closer to some of them than Cadi, Sable, and Salem. Some of them she views as siblings (Dahmer and Gacy especially), others she views more as cousins (IE Berk who is not as around). Occasionally refers to them as her aunts and uncles for legal reasons.
Salem: views Cadi, Sable, and Vaughn as siblings, Genesis is his twin and he sees her as such. Chance is the only person he recognizes as a parental figure in his life but still refers to him as his grandfather to other people because that's how he's listed on legal documents. Will say Chance's kids are his aunts and uncles but views them more as siblings and treats them as such.

Genesis does not drink alcohol at all. She does so much reckless shit that it's just not worth the risk. Salem, on the other hand, will drink himself to passing out from time to time, especially if he's been having nightmares again.
The first time Genesis saw Chance doing Gacy's hair, she asked him to do hers next. She fell asleep before he was even done brushing it and for years after that, he would brush her hair at night to help her sleep.
Chance taught Salem and Genesis how to drive when they were fourteen. He taught Cadi how to drive shortly after taking the pups in and Sable when she was medically cleared in her teens. He wanted to make sure they were able to get themselves places instead of relying on others.
Genesis and Salem have never had a birthday party or even a real celebration of their birthdays. This does not bother Salem, he couldn't care less, but it does deeply upset Genesis because she just wants to feel celebrated, valued, and important, even for just a day.
