Worry started to set in but you played it cool, you shouldn’t have to get so wound up about something like this.
Sure it could change yours, Gen’s and Jared’s lives but the three of you would decide what would happen when you had continued the conversation in the nearby future, maybe after work.
Jared had finished his coffee and excused himself to leave, allowing you and Gen to get ready for work.
Both of you escorted him to the door, Jared hesitantly pecking each of your cheeks before you watched him saunter next door in what looked like a daze, like he still couldn’t believe what had happened last night, and if you were being completely honest, neither could you.
“So…” She started, gnawing at her bottom lip after she closed the door.
“Gen, can we please talk about this later. I just need to wrap my head around what the heck happened. I need to think, really think about this.”
She nodded, respecting your answer as she pressed a kiss to the top of your head and ambled to the bedroom.
Gulping down the rest of your drink, you left the kitchen and decided the thing you really needed was a shower. Hopefully that would clear your head and point you in the direction that would lead you to a decision.
Turning on the water, you waited for it to heat up, feeling it every so often to test the temperature before you stripped down and stepped into the shower.
A good twenty minutes later, you had calmed down, washed up and began to get dressed to go to the flower shop. You were sure you would get pestered for an answer sooner or later; you just hoped it was later. The least you could ask for is to give an answer when you were ready to give one.
When choosing your outfit, you picked out a black off the shoulder top and a pair of plimpsols to match, you paired that with your floral print pants, your hair in a simple bun and makeup light.
Dabbing a finger I've your lips to smooth out the colour, you grabbed your purse and threw the strap over your shoulder. When you left the room, you stopped dead in your, Genevieve wearing a knee length, floral dress with a jean jacket, sweeping her hair to the side. Her lips bold with a dark pink that magically matched the rose that was painted on her dress.
She looked incredible and you told her so. “You look beautiful.”
“Back at you, gorgeous.”
You didn't know what it was, but something felt different. You felt shy around Gen even though you were together, living together, doing everything together, but something felt off.
Nevertheless, you held out your hand for her to take, to join you on the walk to the car so you could share a ride to work.
The car ride was quiet but that was normal, Gen would browse through her social media - scoffing at some of the ridiculous posts, laughing at the funny posts and cooing at the sweet and adorable ones. They were mostly dogs and ducks, she was desperately trying to encourage you to buy either of the animals.
You hadn't given in to her puppy dog like eyes yet but you had to admit they were cute, she may have got you hooked on a blue staffie dog but you wouldn't tell her that though.
Parking in your reserved space, you switched off the ignition but before you could get out Gen had pressed a hand to your thigh, the slight pressure comforting, silently calming you. “Everything is going to work out the way it needs to.”
“I know.”
Rearranging the tiger lilies, hydrangeas and sunflowers for one of your frequent customers, you cleared your throat, gaining Genevieve’s attention.
It was now or never.
“Maybe we should do it. You know, that thing with Jared. “
Gen thanked her current customer and closed the register, wishing her a good day and some luck to win over the man or woman in his life. “Really? Are you sure this is what you want?”
“I've thought about this. Maybe it could be good for us in the long run.” You played with the hangnail on your thumb, avoiding eye contact with her before continuing. “He could be the child's father, the kid you keep talking about having. He could give you that, I can't and it's what you want.”
“It's what he could give us. It's not just me in this relationship, we're in this together. A cohesive unit. If you want us to be with Jared and Jared to be with us then that's your decision but if you don't then we don't but it's still your decision. No one is pressuring you. I want to share a life with you and if that means Jared too then so be it. But I don't care. I want you no matter what, though.”
Nodding, you were more sure of your final decision. “I want to do this. I want to try this thing with Jared and who knows what would happen. But you were right, as long as I'm with you, sharing a life with you, I'll be alright.”
You just wanted to make Genevieve happy and if that included Jared, you were okay with that. Smiling at her, you grabbed her hips and pulled her closer to you, your lips against hers in a gentle, promising kiss. The roll of her hips suggestive of something more passionate, something more like a secret excitement, like she wanted this polyamorous relationship, and maybe deep down you did too and that was why you were denying it at the beginning, making excuses because you shouldn’t have wanted something so taboo but you really did and it was about to happen.
