❝ that’s the best idea you’ve had all day. ❞ without waiting for a response, kankurō leap down the path. with the lack of trees, he couldn’t hide among the shadows how he normally would, so any stealth maneuvers were limited. perhaps if he could get high enough, he could still keep some secrecy about him. but without knowing where the target is…

he sighed. this was irritating. kiba had a point, it would be hard to track their target without working together. the only lead of his own was a list of possible locations, and this was the last place that thief was seen. when he saw kiba, he fought back his pride enough to let the konoha nin lead him around with his nose. but despite his tracking prowess, kankurō was starting to doubt the effectiveness of being teamed up with him.

with some distance between them, he slowed down, taking a moment to scope out the surroundings on his own. if kiba’s nose was correct, then he would be here soon, and they should come upon a clear path.

❝ huh, ❞ movement to his left and it couldn’t have been that damn mutt. he raced towards it, his hands already reaching to unravel his scrolls.

“Good riddance” Kiba grumbled when Kankuro went his own way

He hadn’t minded the idea of having a partner, make the mission a little easier

While true, he was an expert tracker, he also knew the thief was quick, eluding capture for so long, and Kiba remembered Kankuro had the means to capture targets, having seen the puppet first hand years ago during the old retrial mission when he was a child, Kiba knew a team up would have been the best course of action to finally catch the bastard

But man did Kankuro try his patience, which, honestly, was already pretty short to begin with

Kiba sighed, looking down at Akamaru as the giant ninken barked, before taking off running forward in the same direction Kankuro had gone to, the scent stronger, speaking of the target being close by

Ain’t no way I’m lettin puppet boy win! Kiba thought as he furrowed his brows and took off after Akamaru, wanting to capture the target himself, even if capture wasn’t his specialty, he wasn’t about to let Kankuro beat him to their bounty, to let him win

he's hesitant at first. sasuke doesn't seem like the type of person who likes hugs or physical contact. so at first he stands there, arms hanging freely at his sides. then he slowly raises them, leaving his arms open as an invitation. ❝ i just figured you might need one of these. ❞

   IT ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE there’s a nightmare on his face. a different every night, or whenever you happened to see him. not that he was any livelier during meetings but .. this time, it hit him hard.  maybe, kankuro saw that.  dark eyes scan what’d been going on before him, like he was trying to asses whatever had been going on .. but eventually, he takes the few steps to diminish space between them, one arm wrapping around the other.

  but he doesn’t say anything, not at first. because, the other reminds him too much of his older brother. it’s dizzying.  a  “ thank you “  eventually.

it’s amazing how a few words can mean so much. maybe it isn’t the words as much as it is the person saying them. on their own, while complimentary, they’d pale, but this is kankurō. he’s family --- but more than that he was one of the first willing to understand gaara’s change of heart. despite it all; the strife and terror that gaara had caused him. without him, this journey would have been even harder. he doesn’t know if he would have made it, not without the support. 

“i’m glad,” he returns softly with a smile of his own. there’s a slight burn in the back of his eyes. gaara tries to be sure of himself, because any insecurity is an exploitable weakness for someone in his position, but kankurō’s praise quiet’s the worries he can’t deny. the smile curls into a smirk.

“i look up to you too, and not just because you’re taller than me.”
