It wasn’t often Lee got to spend time with Gaara and yet he somehow managed to become one of his favorite people to be around. The two had come such a long way from their fateful match as genin. And now, Gaara was someone Lee drew inspiration from, and was someone Lee was proud to call his friend. 

Today Lee was simply keeping Gaara company on a walk around Konoha as he awaited an audience with the Hokage. It would be rude to leave Gaara alone on a visit to Konoha, after all. Lee looked back at Gaara, somewhat surprised hearing the observation. His surprise look quickly turned into a sheepish smile. “Ah…yes, I suppose I am.” He just couldn’t stop thinking about the date he had the night before with the love of his life, and how everything had gone absolutely perfect. “Gaara…have you…ever been in love before?”

a moment of self satisfaction passed through him as lee affirmed what he thought, even going as far as to open up rather than require further prying ( something he was careful with, knowing too well just how difficult opening up could be ). lee’s open nature was something of a relief. 

he blinked owlishly at the question, lapsing into momentary silence as he slipped into considerable thought. “... i,” love was nothing if not complicated for the kazekage, an enigmatic feeling so obscure he doubted he’d be able to place it even if it was nestled in his chest. “i am not certain, but i believe it is safe to assume you are?”

a cursory glance is given, the neutrality of his expression harboring an edge of sympathy. “when are they not.” it’s more fact than it is some attempt at humor ( though perhaps, it is a bit of an attempt as well ). “it’s late, i take it you’ll be staying?” it’s less of a question and more of a request, a ‘please’ caught somewhere in his tone.
