• cassidy and you decided to go to a bar for a drink or two after a cute little date night

• cassidy had left you at the bar counter to go to the bathroom, planting a quick kiss on your cheek before he left

• not long after, a man approached you and offered to pay for your drink

• you politely declined

• mistaking your politeness for shyness, the man persisted and sat down next to you

• just as you were getting very uncomfortable, your cowboy in shining boots comes back from the bathroom

• he puts his hand on the man’s shoulder firmly from behind him, “sorry fella, but this one’s mine.”

• the man looks at cassidy, observing his tall and muscular build— and also the gun strapped to his “BAMF” belt

• the man quickly leaves and cassidy takes his seat back

• “can’t leave you alone for a second, huh?” he chuckles

• not insecure about the situation at all, but he doesn’t like when others think they have a chance with you

• he fiddles with his beard in slight annoyance

• genji and you went to a cute breakfast cafe

• the parking situation wasn’t ideal, so genji dropped you off first for you to get you both a table meanwhile he parked the car

• the waiter must’ve thought you were waiting for a friend, as he was bold to leave his number for you on a napkin when he sat you to your table and gave you coffee

• genji arrives and you quickly tell him what happened, lightly laughing at the humor of it

• genji’s heart slightly sinks as he looks over at the waiter whom, unlike him, looked like a normal human being

• he knew you loved him as he is, but he has moments where he wishes he wasn’t mainly metal because he can’t help but compare himself to others

• you were quick to notice this because you know your boyfriend very well, you put your hand over his and rubbed it

• he looks over at you and smiles before softly squeezing your hand

• not long after, he takes the napkin with the written number on it and uses it to wipe his mouth in pettiness in front of the waiter

• “he should’ve paid for our meal at the very least if he was interested.”

Ashe

• Ashe and you had ridden on her motorcycle to the gas station as she needed to refill her gas tank

• after getting gas, she went into the store to get you a snack you were craving as you guarded her motorcycle

• not long after, a girl approached you complimenting the motorcycle and starting going on about how she loves motorcyclists, also hinting at wanting your number

• before you have a chance to reply, ashe responds for you

• “get your head out the clouds and move along now, they ain’t on the market.” she says sternly, her eyes piercing through the woman’s skull

• the woman apologizes and scurries away in fear

• when you tell ashe she could’ve been nicer, she scoffs

• she looks at you in slight annoyance yet admiration that you’re so good looking she has to watch the whole west to make sure no one even dares hitting on you

• “next time, keep your helmet on would ya’? don’t need anybody else’s googly eyes on ya’”

• you giggle as you hug her

• you went to the gym with your boyfriend per routine

• you guys always did your sets separately but always in close proximity to each other

• people in the gym were well familiar with you two and the fact you were a couple as you guys would sneak in kisses between sets here and there

• but today a new guy made the mistake of thinking you were alone, he approached and asked for your number

• emre was quick to notice and watched as you rejected him with a smirk

• however, the guy wasn’t convinced, “who’s your boyfriend? bet he can’t bench as much as i can”

• emre stepped in between you two with a smug smile

• the guy’s face faltered, shocked by emre’s physique (most notably his fat ahh)

• “i’m their boyfriend. what do you think bebeğim, do you think he can bench more than i can?”

After his first nightmare he felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, the morning went with coffee just how he ordered and slow goodbyes as the time came and went for you to say your farewells and return to the cold morning streets before your shift.

He sat for a long while at his kitchen island, simply holding a mug now empty and gazing towards his front door. He expected to have some sort of movie moment the morning after, that the sun would be glowing brighter or perhaps he'd get some sort of One-hundred percent certainty 'yes! this will work out! you did it!' feeling

He didn't, yet the morning was calm, dulled behind grey clouds and chilled; but it lingered with the mixing scent of coffee and your cologne. It felt peaceful, like when you had entered his apartment the night before you brought in and left all the serenity and fullness his air was once missing.

He wasn't feeling negative for the first time in a long while, quite the opposite, the warmth in his chest wasn't from the warm brew, but it settled in the base of his chest and spine comfortably like a pool of soothing warm water over frostbitten skin.

Soon after it became routine for you to stay over, and slowly moving closer every night spent till he'd grown used to awakening groggily in a mess of limbs blankets and snores. Once you'd realize he was awake came fleeting pecks along his face and jaw, grumbling good mornings over and over to his contented leans and sighs into you.

Nights are spent centered around newest release movies, drink recipes your boss wants you to practice and him drinking both the good and the bad with feedback or praise. Oftentimes falling asleep with the TV playing late night shows or whatever pops up next on youtube, drink cups scattered and the smell of decaf, tea and soda flavoring clings faintly despite your best attempts to clean up after yourself.

Your first 'holiday' together is his birthday actually, October 28th and around two months lets say after your routine was started and enjoyed. He expected at least a small few 'Happy birthday's from his co-workers and friends, maybe Mercy and Brigitte would buy him a cake or messily make one in HQ's small cooking setup.

He hadn't told them about you yet, relationship fresh and his own desire for something of his own kept his excuses timed and phone kept from view of prying eyes, all but one over-observant and nosy hacker.

Sombra wasn't an over extravagant gift giver, especially given her own busy schedule and motives, however she noticed Genjis demeanor change near instantly and to say her interest wasn't hiked like her totally legit scores in most of her favorite arcade games would be a total lie.

So sombra got him a gift, she wasn't malicious if anything exited for genji; his reserved nature and tendency to overwork himself was a major concern with every agent and ally she overheard or scrolled past in messages.

imagine genjis surprise when he comes home one evening after another date with you to a dark purple box sitting on his apartment doorstep, just days before his birthday and just planned event with you. His step halts mid movement, eyes scanning his surrounding hallway for any show of a delivery worker to ask; a sign of a 'we missed you' slip, not recalling a notification for any delivery to his address.

From the colors alone he could tell who sent it, and another wrench was found in his delicate machine of keeping you and his agent work separate making his shoulders tense. Genji wasn't hesitant about having tough conversations normally, but his worry and general life was something he thought might harm you- or at least has the immense potential to. Should the public and subsequently those wishing harm against him and Overwatch find out about you, it was an outcome genji struggled to allow himself to think about.

You catch his change in behavior as he falls behind your step, eyes following his gaze with a head tilt of confusion before turning to him again "you okay, Genji?" silence follows making your brows lace before catching his gaze with a slow step into his line of sight "did you not order it?" you weren't unfamiliar with his stressors but figured with his birthday coming up soon perhaps he was easier to set off, or that there were triggers you hadn't encountered yet

He shakes his head and sighs, "no, just a colleague being early on their present, wasn't expecting it" reaching his doormat he crouched down and lifted the surprisingly heavy box with slight effort at the unexpected weight

You move forward and prop open the door after he unlocked it, "oooo birthday boy got a gift" your voice sings after him entering and shutting the door with a rehearsed click of the lock. His face feels warm as he sets the box down on the kitchen island and makes a gesture that reads 'Its either a gift or something worse' making your brows lace together

He wasn't open as much as you'd like about his coworkers, ever curious about what kind of coworker would result in this type of behavior, you knew he was an agent but he was extremely careful about what he mentioned to you; but you quickly found your worries forgotten as the bow was untied and top of the box lifted off.

Self-care items, an envelope and an overwhelming smell of floral and almond hits his nose, genji eyed the box suspiciously before reaching inside and pulling out the light green envelope laid on top, 'happy birthday genji' written in dark green ink that swirled about the blank space. feeling your arms wrap around his waist allowing himself to melt against you as he nicks the green tab open,

In print lettering reads a shop name he glances over before he catches sight of the main body of the letter, his face blooms warmth as your chuckle resonates into his shoulder 'Couples self care kit Mystery Box; For The Birthday Boy & The His Cute Barista' he mentally groans and physically flushes at your coos at his reaction, closing the lid before you could get a good look at much else

You manage to nab the letter from him, reading aloud as he reaches for his phone to send a very nosey hacker a piece of his mind, he however couldn't deny how on brand for her it was.

"ahem, 'specifications; two of everything so they can share, nothing spearmint or heavy; light scents, florals almond or incense. Face masks, sheet masks & body lotion-" Your voice reads over the long thread of specifications, by the end he was reopening the box and looking inside as you stood beside him

"So, seems you do talk to your coworkers about me hm?" teasing him as he eyes over several palm sized tubs of different face mask types, "I.. I don't." his voice is soft, tired even as he continues "you know the general gist of my work, and I worry that if you get involved with it or they know it..." he trails off, you lean your head over his and tuck him into your frame with no harshness

"I know" the sound of your voice with the wonderfully soothing smells from inside the box ease his nerves faster than he's used to, "I don't have to meet them, and it's obvious your coworker crossed a line; not that I'm complaining, some of these look expensive as fuck-" that gets him to laugh

"She does tend to go extravagant when she wants to get a point across" peering between him and the box your brow quirks and he answers without having to look "well, she probably noticed or snooped and found out about you; it's not like she's threatening me or anything with it, let alone you. Just...''

he tries to work the words through his mouth before speaking; "I guess she’s just making it known that she’s supportive, if not a little overbearing about getting me to open up.” he sighs leaning into your embrace fully "allow myself to remove a stressor that's.. valid. but, not to this extent." he sways softly with you, your arms tucked snuggly around him from behind, both hands rubbing comfortingly over his clothed sides.

By to this extent you know he means the paranoia, the checking in with you when you seem off, the anxiety when a headline crosses your scrolling thumb over phone. The comforting sway and embrace combats Genjis anxieties, a warmth meeting cold ice worry that mixes uncomfortably in his stomach.

You hum in acknowledgement, a sound that eases him like a warmed stove and butter, "I wouldn't be opposed to meeting them, with your birthday coming up we could..." you trail off with a hopeful tone leaning over his shoulder, hands kneading his hips in your hands and without seeing his face you could feel his inner turmoil.

You turn him around, one hand grabbing for a bottle from the box now behind him and pulling it between the both of you. "Honeysuckle & Lavender soothing night cream, hm?" groaning in flush as you grab more from the box "I say, you and I do some soothing self care and you can sleep on it, yeah?"

Genji said yes, of course he said yes. After matching facemasks & time spent rubbing hair oils through his and your scalp, cooling serum on the freshly shaven skin you spent ten minuets shaving; you adorably scared to nick the sensitive skin warmed by a hot towel; how could he not?

Spent the night finding places for each of the items from the box, getting another for the duplicates while genji made a mental note of the ones you seemed to prefer, sleeping tucked under your chin with the soothing aromas mixed with your natural scent he was a puddle the next morning when he awoke and you asked him again.

But that's not to say Genji wasn't riddled with anxiety when his birthday finally came around.

Approaching a local restaurant reserved ahead of time (at his request and worry) , he held your hand with anxiety and was embraced back with care; soft flesh rubbing a thumb over mechanic and metal.

The doors open and multiple voices cheer at his familiar figure through the automatic doors that lock behind them once shut, colder October air warmed away as genji notes the varying reactions to your figure next to him; smiling brightly.

Olivia (Sombra) smirks over her nursed glass, eyes flickering between the both of you and her held phone sticking her tongue out at genji who gives her a knowing look

Brigette and Angela (mercy) instantly brighten, cheering in unison the moment their brains connect your figure with the pictures genji shyly showed them at work days prior; instantly both offer a seat across from them fit for two.

Zenyatta is entertaining Reinhardt with card tricks, the louder of the two shaking the drinks nearby when Zenyatta does something that makes the tall knight brighten in wonder.

they notice when you two set down across from Brigette and Angela; Reinhardt instantly talking your ear off about all the 'Wonderful things genji has said about his dear barista' which makes your eyes slit teasingly at genji next to you, zenyatta waves in greeting and compliments the positive influence you've had on genjis stress levels.

Kiriko comes back with menus in hand and a last comment to one of the staff she seems friendly towards, catching a seat next to sombra and introducing herself through the mess of conversation that follows the settling of your arrival; telling you between reinhards boasting stories that you get used to the levels, and how glad she is to meet you.

Hana (D.va) Rushes out of the bathroom quickly, apologetically and excitedly as sombra teases her for being late despite her text of the arrival of the birthday boy, she sits at the end of the table leaning forward and says shes been dying to meet you; how excited shes been since Genji told the group chat that you'd be coming to his birthday dinner.

Genji cant help but bask in the chattersom enviroment around him, arm around your back resting on the blush seat cushion as he takes a moment to look at you as you talk and seem to melt into his friend group and their 'eccentric' personalities.

This is okay he tells himself, listening to the silent bubble of the empty seats surrounding their lively table as his hand traces patterns in the fabric of your shirt.

He's getting used to this, and slowly without meaning to genji feels settled after so long of unwravling, not that his spool of experience and trauma is rewound- No; But it's settled softly on the floor somewhere, and warm hands are carefully unknotting important threads.

With having cozied up next to Genji's side, between listening to him recollecting to you about how exactly Cass had caught strays during Today's training, as you're simultaneously mashing button prompts playing Injustice2 together. You.. felt conflicted.

Usually, accompanied with bated breath from your highstrung laughter, you'd join-in on the Conversation. Adding to the Banter. Coming up with your own quick witted jokes which would end up being repeated throughout your guys' later Conversations alone from how smart they were.

And normally, you loved having your planned cute couch dates - CCD - as Genji had bynamed and having along side it started the silly Inside joke, among many, between you two from how dirty the abbreviation sounded.

So then, why are you letting this get to your Head?

Especially right now of all places. With how the two of you already have your Hands full throughout the Day; Coming together to wind down playing Games was the closest thing to a Date, that even then, was barely achievable. It only added more salt to the wound that you can't seem to enjoy yourself.

"-Honestly? the fact that Cass and I used to be in a Team is. Unfathomable," he said. His smile clearly heared from the Tone of his voice, as he quickly nodded towards your direction without losing his focus to the Screen. "Of course Gabriel did always complain about him slacking off. "Hey :(," Genji said, sounding faux depleated incase you'd suddenly want to throw away your competitive drive so you guys could make out already. You know him better though and didn't, to his poor dismay.

Grinning, genuinly smiling, you feel at ease finally seeing him again and hanging out like this. With things having started to pick up their pace here at Headquarters, leaving the two of you even busier from eachother than before.

He continued adding,"Incase by some miracle you're free tomorrow. I want a rematch," jokingly provoking your Ego. Sadly, which did the opposite as to continue the lighthearted Mood in the Air.

Tomorrow, he said. Where you'd eventually have to see them again.

Dammit! You love this, you love these dates, you adored how Genji would try to make Time for just the two of you from one that wasn't always available. So why can't you shake off these stupid Thoughts. You've been looking forward to spend time with him all Day.

Not wanting to think about the Stress over this Person and what it had entailed for you the past Weeks, you tighten your hold on Genji's arm as some quiet means of comfort. Resuming on wanting to focus back on the Game by any means necessary.

Though you couldn't control your heartbeat from picking up as your Body heat would slowly rise. You've heared and even told yourself many times by now: how you shouldn't care about people throwing you malice; the whole nonchalance on not even remembering them once they're out of your Sight. Sadly those Ideal never quite stuck to you. The many Disadvantages on wearing your Heart on your Sleeves.

Your consciousness began to fog up. Mixture of dissociating and minding your breathing not getting too heavy as you would focus on the Characters infront of your Screen. Animation canceling. Avoiding hits. Dodging before you pressed an ability, dodging again.

Seeing the quick time pop up, muscle memory kicking in as you mindlessly completed it. You were faster- wait. This was your Victory Screen. You, win? Oh my God. You Win! Ha, of course you do.

Lightly springing out of your comfortable Position from having leaned on him all this time, you sat up in wanting to rub your Victory in his Face. But your smile faded just as quickly as you halted your movement.

Only when you faced him did you notice the loose hold of the Controller in his Hands. Makes sense, given you did manage on finishing the button Prompt faster than usual. An advantage Genji had regularly joked over you as his own Shimada training came quite in-handy over the most unserious Things.

"From what you're saying, you have every right to feel upset over them treating you that way," he said, reassuring.

"Why wouldn't you think that you ccan't tell me any of this?"

Confused yourself, sighing was the only response you could give him before thinking of a better one. Because... you didn't wan't to make things complicated?

"But, it doesn't make it less 'complicated' for you by letting things get bottled up. You're not making it easier for anyone. Or yourself," Genji stated. Between wanting to sound firm over you needing to take yourself more seriously and as to sound supportive. He of all people know's what it's like when letting things get to ones Head.

Despite as soft as he can, telling you off over dealing with your Emotions alone. He reminds you of something you seem to have forgotten. "Having dealt with being alone for so long, it's understandible how you'd resort to not wanting to talk about things. You didn't have anyone that'd listen to you before."

You felt tired hearing him say that, however, before you could get a chance as to woefully spiral down your Past, he retorded by adding: "But those Years are long behind you."

Additionally, having created his latest Album in Collab with the Zurich Hospital for the funding and as to getting the Word around.

Lúcio upon hearing her words, already parkoured towards his Hardlight Dj-Table,"Aw, Man! Check this out. Get ready to jamm' party People!!!," transforming and making the Table reapear in the middle of the little Group, the most fucking epic Party Songs starts playing.

And so, all four of you dance (to international Love by Pitbull).

Lúcio bumping a way any Dj would, Brigitte showing off her learned K-pop dances that she'd been choreographing with Juno, Anran and D.va; and then there was You and Genji.

As akward as you had felt your dancing was, his own? weird bird mating ritual certaintly got you more confident on jumping around.

A/N: omg my first overwatch request? And it’s while I’m hyperfixated? Yes yes yes!! You meet present day, he's a little older but no colder and still that lazy smiled jokester 'cyborg ninja' for Halloween Every. Single. Year dork that everyone knows and loves.

He is however not unscathed from his life both in and out of his line of work, or clan.

But he goes into public a lot more than he would at the start of his career, metal glinting beneath fabric catches a lot of uneasy eyes during the most tense years in recent history between metal and flesh, but he'd grown used to it.

He found solace in a warm mug, near but distant conversations and new specials to try and keep some part of his life simple, calm; nonviolent. And yet, getting approached at a coffee shop just after everyone stopped staring was... a daunting feeling regardless.

But when he wasn't recognized as his Overwatch agent self; for an autograph or picture, and no slew of anger and rage at Overwatches command; for answers or to spark combat came his way he paused.

You slid into the seat in front of him, hands wrapped and laced comfortably around a warm to-go cup and the corner of your eyes wrinkle as you greet him

"Hey" your voice carried over the crowded morning rush of conversation and orders, his eyes dart from your face to his cup to your cup back to your face again "I've seen you here a few times-" if he had back muscles he's sure he'd feel the tension between his shoulders, metal tightening instead beneath his hoodie

"and I wanted to get your number.. If that's okay I mean." you flush with your quickly ended question, heat melting into the skin of your face like sunrays

His eyes zero in on yours as a slow warm flushes his own face, that wasn't anywhere near what he had prepared for, or experienced. That's not to say he hasn't been approached, nor had crushes and relationships; but your tone and the way your tone seeps with nerves and the jitters of your leg beneath the table make the corner of his mouth quirk as he realizes he needs to respond, recover.

"you've seen me here before?" Genji asks, shoulder's slowly beginning to relax at your quick reply and darting gaze "I work here actually and uhm-" while he mentally curses himself for not noticing you sooner, watching eyes that went unnoticed- being too relaxed out in the open, you rummage for only a moment

"I've been meaning to give you this," pulled from your jacket pocket is a perfectly folded napkin. The cafes logo sits plainly next to a sketch in pen of him, looking out the front of the cafe's main window with his side and back towards the counters point of view.

In black ink the metal of his chin, throat and part of his shoulder are rendered.. amazingly against the crisp white napkin. The folds of his hoodie sketched with quick strokes and latter lacing lines for texture and depth. His face is obscured from view but his hand holds the same white cafe mug he's always gotten as if lost in thought, because he's never one to rush and leave unless HQ needed him and couldn't wait.

It feels strangely intimate despite his faces obscured turn, he flushes at being caught for long enough in such an unaware state he can't help but notice his hair pluming in tufts drawn in smooth strokes- he feels his face deepen, and his stomach comes to life at the smile it brings you. He almost misses it as his eyes stare wide and adoringly at the drawing.

He was used to being drawn, in fanart or posing to be photographed with his fans or videoed near constantly on missions and TV. His family fame mixing with his Overwatch agent work it's an inescapable part of his life, as much as he manages to avoid it. But for it to be so casual, detailed and attentive in a way that felt like his fame was striped like old varnish to show just... him.

it almost made him forget to reply.

"Wow, I mean, thank you uh.." his hand reaches, warm from the mug and softly takes the sketched paper as if it would crumble if handled too roughly. "I don't know what else to say" you rub the nape of your neck at his response with a shy gaze and handsome smile that sends a wave of chills down genjis back

"Your number?" you hopfully reply with a smile genji can't help but note, and as soon as his brain catches up your name is entered in his phone, your number right after with nervous thumbs over his screen before passing it back to him with shy chuckles between you

He wasn't even sure why he did it, giving out your number to random civilians was way against Overwatches guidelines. Who knows how many numbers Reaper, Ash and multiple others got whenever they all had a night out, or rarely a vacation. It's a breach of every safety they have in place; you never know who they work for or who they really are.

It wasn't like it would ever go anywhere regardless, One) his job was very hush-hush, long hours in places his location has to be off for- just to name a few that tended to be a downer and drain on those he tended to date. And Two) Genji had.. undeniable issues after everything he's been through. Waking up screaming next to a one-night stand, or a budding romance at an ungodly hour.. it tended to make goodbyes awkward and deleting numbers hard.

But the cat gif with pink text saying 'get home safe!' popped on his screen under your name, his thumb hovering the delete button, makes him gnaw at his lower lip anxiously as he made his way back home.

He replies back with a green heart emoji promising he will, a puff of air releasing his tension as he pocketed his personal phone and from there things went as smooth as it could go. Which was to say better than every other attempt genji has had at a relationship

When you first brought up wanting to stay the night, after weeks of casual dates around the city and even sneaking into the cafe after hours to attempt (and fail) at drawing him with late art (ending up with more of it smeared around the counter and down the drain as you tried to get it just right) and quickly realizing it was getting serious, you had no intent of hurting him or even showing betrayal when his hesitance made him cancel, unsure or anxious he was filled with what felt like endless dread.

He worried that once you realized who he was or what being with him meant that you'd leave. Laying in bed with his phone to his metal chest that hummed with his electric pulse as he contemplated another excuse beside admission, but another buzz against roughed hands made him look down and squint at the bright screen in darkness.

"It's okay if it's too much too soon" a heart emoji makes his chest light "I don't mean to push you into any discomfort if I have, I'd love to get takeout and we can simply watch a movie on the same couch" his chest tightens and tears well in the corners of his eyes, a feeling of mixed emotion building with every word, the desire for closeness; a next step in the right direction over a known hurdle he can almost see over- or isolate so the anxiety goes away in the moment.

"Don't even feel pressured to be near me if that's what might be too much, I can just spread out on your huge ass couch and enjoy time with you and some snacks." he wanted to punch you, to melt against you he wanted to scream so loud you'd probably hear him from your own apartment across the city.

He didn't understand why you hadn't left already, when the long missions meant low contact and vague responses on his location, when he shied away from your nuzzles into his face or could only handle hand holding if you didn't touch the metal meeting his mangled arms and wrists.

He once again didn't seem to know why he agreed, his usually calm demeanor he carefully built for years himself was cracking so easily without a second thought.. a quick response of "i'd love that" before he sighed and tried to focus, meditate and ease his worries; will it away and store it for later, or never if he had his way.

"The etching of water and wear against a stone does not erode the fact it is still a stone" was all Zenyatta had told him when he sought insight, the only member he felt safe enough to confide in. He expected at least some sort of reprimand or call into an office about his breach of safety, his nerves overriding his trust of Zenyatta; But none came.

The entire week and day-of he couldn't help but endlessly clean or anxiously stare into the space of his empty and dark apartment, old food containers junk wrappers moving from one hand into a trashbag held by the other and A Playlist blaring from his TV speakers as the hours pass and time came when you'd be arriving.

A quick shower, a longing stare in the mirror and mental prep; he was ready. Or so he thought, the moment you walked in and drank in his apartment he felt like he was hit with a wave of nerves.

His mind seemed keenly aware of how you cradled him in greeting, hands resting gently on his biceps; his on your waist keeping the same distance you didn't seem to mind as his thumb rubbed over the fabric of your jacket covered flesh in his palms.

You nuzzled into his forehead with yours, a soft sound of contentment as your eyes closed as you soak up his presence in silence. No words yet his heart still hammers in his robotic chest, pumping against its metal cage like bees in a tin can; he decides if tonight he screams, if tonight you leave he should at least get one thing.

He allows himself to melt against you and wrap his arms around your waist, in swift movements pushing them up and under the fabric of your jacket; resting above your shirt and molding into the shape of your back as his head pressed into the apex of your shoulder and neck. You stand still, either unsure of yourself and what to do or waiting for his approval, your hands hover in the air where he once was arms length away before settling loosely around his shoulders.

It's only a moment but Genji feels something shift in himself, acceptance that if things ended he'd be okay and yet a blooming warmth of hope that things could be different, he wouldn't have a nightmare or you'd... it was hard for himself to imagine an alternative, couldn't visualize someone staying after his cries awaken them from after-fun slumber.

You order snacks and a hot meal from a local place, praising 24 hour service under your breath as your phone lights up your face. Genji stares with a soft expression one couch cushion away from you, blanket wrapped around his body as the faux-fireplace crackles in LEDs.

The both of you retire with soft guiding of your hands on his hips from behind, arms length away and humming in agreement as he tiredly rambled about the movie you watched and walked towards his bedroom. He doesn't notice your absence until his shirt is already halfway off, in his tired haze and routine he moved to discard it before his insecurity could spike his joy

But he found the sound of his bathroom doors distant click shut a comfort, for a moment he sat in the full silence of his apartment, the lighting felt a little warmer; air a little calmer as genji quickly changed into a long sleeved shirt and sweatpants, tucking himself into bed and awaiting your arrival only to drift asleep in his short wait.

He misses the distant sound of the fireplace remote clicking as it's turned off, trash lid popping open then shut with only minutes between soft returning footsteps and light switch flips, the bed dips as you ease onto the far side of the bed, admiring his soft features with tired eyes as you pull the blanket up further.

The only thoughts left are of his gentle features softened in moon and streetlights through the nearby window, silted and wrapping him in a gentle hue that made a sigh and sleep ease into your body as it claimed you too.

Despite his hopes and despite his eased nerves it happens, shouts of past arguments, ghosts of those slain by the Shimada clan come back with torment and tempers- flames and dragons, the smell of singed flesh and sweltering pain.

He's suddenly aware of being awake and crying when your voice seeps through the panic and panting of his body, an acute awareness of his face cradled into your neck and pillow that soaks with his tears- arm beneath it having scooped him up to thread fingers into his tussled bedhead as he breathes your scent with sweltering sobs.

A gentle low hum comforts his panic, your leg draped between his to pull him closer with his arm draped over your side; his sobs hiccup as he tries to pull away, cover his panic and shame but this time you don't relent as he struggles to stop his sobs and pull from your embrace.

You don't talk about it for what seems like hours, long after his tears have tried on his pillow and your humming stopped to gentle breathes. You ask him if this happens a lot, he replies with a tired hum and begins prepping for your departure.

But you stay, you make a breathy noise of understanding into his hair and kiss his temple with an apology that threatens to burst tears from his thought-to-be dry eyes. He doesn't recoil, he melts.

He knows he's in love when he wakes up, sluggish but warm his blanket feels heavier against his body only for him to realize hes not alone. Without panic he breathes deeply, letting the morning light meet fluttering eyes as he adjusts, a familiar smell greets him. Peaking open an eye he's greeted with your sleeping face next to his, his heart flutters and a smile seeps onto his face as he thinks to himself in a boyish tired haze

He could get used to this.

you’re licking your lips bouta take a hit as genji wakes in,, his soft appearance makes u flutter in awe, “hii bae” comes sliding from his lips “hey aha, you want sum?” gesturing towards the yart as he plops down next to on the bed “please n thx” shooting a cheeky grin at u.

as the night went on hearing faint droplets of rain outside only making yall high in each other’s company,, underneath his fluffy blanket genji’s warmth buzzin softly against your body. it’s been so long since he’s held you this close.. your attention isn’t on anything else besides him,, gliding ur leg thru his lowk needy to get his attention.

“mm?” mm? that’s all he’s got to say? he knows you’ve been pent up. the whiner you r you say nothing only brushing against his neck,, causing him to smile a soft chuckle leaving his lips. “you want something? use your words.” genjis always a tease when he’s high,, you should’ve been more prepared. “cmon onn.. please.” you’ve been subconsciously rubbing his collarbones

The Shimada brothers were very well known in Hanamura.  The older brother was known for being cold and serious, while the younger of the two was a childish playboy.  They were some of the richest people in Japan, (Hanamura, anyway) if not the richest.  Everyone knew who they were.  That’s why when the younger brother rushed into class at the last second you frowned.

He was cute, sure, but he was a playboy and you weren’t a fan.  He seemed to have every girl in school falling for him.  Every girl that is, except you.  You had made it your mission to stay away from him, knowing what he was like.  And since you didn’t approve of what he was like, you refrained from speaking to him, knowing that mouthing off to one of the most popular and powerful people in town would be a huge mistake.  You might be disowned and kicked off the island, or something.

He glanced around the room, looking for a seat.  You thanked the stars your best friend was sitting next to you.  His gaze settled on an empty seat: the one behind you.  As he walked through the classroom, not so quiet whispers broke out in the crowd.  You didn’t bother fighting the eye roll.  You placed your chin on your hand, while your elbow rested on the desk.  The teacher called everyone’s attention back to the board before continuing.  You were glancing up to the chalkboard and then down at your notepad, quickly jotting down things you guessed you’d have to remember later, when you felt a tug on your hair.  

Your eyes narrowed and your eyebrows pinched together in irritation. Deciding to ignore him, you continued writing notes.  You felt another tug, which you also ignored, prompting him to give it another pull. You frowned, placing your pencil down and sitting up straight.  You reached behind you slightly, grabbing your hair and moving it so it laid over your shoulder, out of the pest’s reach.

He didn’t do anything else to bother you throughout the lesson, for which you were grateful.  Once class had ended, you had grabbed your things and rushed outside, hoping he wouldn’t follow.

“Hey, wait!”  A voice called.

Your paces quickened, hoping to disappear before he could get a hold of you.  You purposely took the long way to your locker, trying to lose him.  You arrived, unlocking it and pulling your stuff out.  You let out a breath of relief, starting to close the door, only to see Genji’s smirking face staring down at you.  You tensed slightly, but quickly recovered, slamming the door shut the rest of the way.

“I almost lost you.”  He spoke, grinning.

If only I could be so lucky, you thought to yourself.  “What do you want, Shimada?”  You asked, a bitter tone to your voice, wanting to get this interaction over with.

“Wow.  Touchy.” He noted, his dark eyes flashing with mischief.  You noticed this, backing up slightly.

“Well, I have to get to class, and theoretically, you do as well.”  You spoke evenly, beginning to walk away.

“Oh, my gosh!”  A third voice spoke.  “Genji!”

You turned, seeing your best friend rush forward, stepping between you and the tall boy.  He grinned down at her, enjoying the attention.  You enjoyed the distraction.

Using this perfect opportunity, you crept away, frequently looking back to make sure they hadn’t noticed.  When you were convinced they hadn’t, you sprinted down the halls to your next class, desperate to get in before they did notice.

You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding once you’d entered the classroom.  Smiling to yourself at your successful escape, you took a seat in the back, pulling out your things.

As you took more notes, your mind kept trying to come up with routes to take to avoid him.  You decided this might not work, since you didn’t know his schedule, unlike every other girl in the school.  What you did know, however, was that he sometimes skipped classes just because.  Class ended a few minutes early, hopefully giving you enough time to get to your locker and next class before he even knew that your class had ended.  You rushed out, swiftly making your way to your locker. You timed the journey in your head, trying to remember it in case you’ll need this method later.

You quickly opened your locker, the number combination seemingly engraved in your brain, as you replaced the items in your hand.  You closed your locker door, glancing around briefly before making your way to your next class.  You entered and sat in the back where your other best friend would be if you didn’t get out early.  You stopped counting and pulled out your notebook, writing down ‘~6:13’ on the top.  Since you still had 5-10 minutes before class started, you began doodling on the side of the page to pass the time.  Students began flooding in soon after the teacher arrived.

She began writing things on the board, getting ready, when your friend Jamison walked in, taking a seat next to you.  Jamison was an exchange student, visiting from America.  He looked over at you.

“What’s up?”  He asked, a happy expression on his face.  You raised an eyebrow.

“I could ask you the same thing.”  You retorted.  “What’s got you so cheerful?”  You asked, a small smirk forming on your lips.

“I got a 98 on my test I took yesterday.”  He informed.  Your face lit up.

“Jamison, that’s great!”  You told him, lifting your hand.  He high-fived you softly, so as to not draw any attention to yourselves. Class hadn’t started yet, but still. “That was the one you were really concerned about, right?”  You asked, the large smile refusing to leave.

“Yeah.”  He admitted, running a dark hand through his short hair.  “I’m so glad I decided to study extra that last week.”  He confessed.

“See?  I told you.” You spoke.  “When in doubt, always listen to Y/n.”  You joked, placing a hand on your chest.  He chuckled, bumping you with his shoulder.  You laughed quietly, just as the warning bell rang. You glanced down at your watch, seeing that there was about 3 minutes for class to start.

“There’s a huge clock on the wall.  Why are you looking at the tiny watch on your wrist?”  Jamison asked, gesturing lightly with his hand for emphasis.  You shrugged.

“Habit, I guess.”  You answered.

“Don’t you have a test today?”  He asked.

“No.  It’s tomorrow.”  You informed. Jamison nodded in understanding.

“Do you feel prepared?”  He questioned, cocking his head slightly.  You pursed your lips in thought.

“Yeah.  Yeah, I think I do.”  You confessed, smiling softly.  The final bell rang seconds after the last two people entered the classroom.  You and Jamison faced the front, both giving the teacher full attention.

You were going to pass that test.
