Living with Calum was like a dream come true.
Getting to wake up next to him every morning and go to sleep in his arms every night always puts a smile on your face. After everything got unpacked and everything found its place, it didn’t take long for the two of you to adjust. You were both incredibly happy.
With Christmas just around the corner, you were filled with excitement. Now that you were living together, you and Calum got to make your own Christmas traditions, part of that being buying decorations for your house. You each had a few things of your own, but this was a new chapter. A new Christmas together.
You wanted to go shopping with Calum, but one lazy afternoon of browsing decorations online while Calum was at the studio brought you to a website that made custom stockings. As one pretty design caught your eye, an idea popped into your head. You couldn’t bite back your smile as you put in an order, already counting the days until it would arrive.
In the meantime, during your shopping trip for decorations with Calum, you insisted you hated all of the stockings at the store, trying to put off buying them as long as possible. You kept the ones you ordered a surprise.
When they finally arrived, you carried the box to where Calum sat in the dining room, scrolling through his phone.
“I got something for us,” you announced excitedly, placing the box on the table in front of him. He glanced up at you with a grin and pulled the box closer.
“Yeah?” He mused. “What did you get?”
“Open it and see!”
Chuckling at your enthusiasm, Calum pulled open the box and pulled out the contents; three stockings. One with your name on it, one with Calum’s, and one with Duke’s.
“So this is why you hated all the stockings at the store, huh?” He teased, running his fingers over the fabric.
“Pretty much,” you answered. You leaned over and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. “Do you like them?”
“I love them, sweetheart,” he mumbled, pulling you around to sit on his lap. “And I love you. Thank you so much for getting these.”
“I love you too, bub.”
Although he didn’t show it, Calum was melting on this inside. Having your matching stockings really made living together feel real. They were your stockings, for your house. It made you feel like a family. It melted Calum’s heart that you thought to get personalized ones; not only for you and him, but for Duke as well, who was just as much a part of the family.
“Can we go put them up now?” You asked, glancing at him with a hopeful smile. He laughed and nodded, gently easing you off his lap.
You worked together to hang them on the fireplace and made sure they were evenly spaced out. Duke decided to join you, and Calum easily scooped him up.
“Look what Mama got for you, Duke,” Calum cooed, holding him up to his stocking. The corners of your lips quickly turned up; you would never get over how it felt to have Calum refer to you as Mama. “A stocking just for you. You are going to be one spoiled little dog this Christmas, I’m sure.”
“And you deserve to be spoiled, little man,” you giggled, giving him some pets. “What do you want for Christmas, Dukey?”
Duke barked in response, causing you both to laugh.
“I think he said he wants new Vans,” Calum translated, raising an eyebrow at you. You playfully rolled your eyes.
“Alright, I get the hint, bub.”
That night, you and Calum laid down in bed. He pulled you into his arms as he always did, and pressed a gentle kiss to your shoulder, as he always did. You laid quietly for a while, slowly starting to drift off to sleep.
“Baby?” Calum’s soft whisper caught your attention.
“Yeah?”
“Did you really get a stocking for the dog?”
You giggled and turned around his arms to face him.
“Of course I did. He needs one.”
“You’re so cute,” he chuckled, a look of pure adoration on his face. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.”
Calum leaned in for a kiss, one soft yet full of love and excitement.
In which you suffer from season allergies and have a sleepless night.

A/N: my allergies have me feeling awful and looking literally grotesque so i wrote this. just a short lil thing for all my sexy bitches with hay fever
You were convinced that Michael’s sighs were starting to turn from sympathetic to annoyed.
You couldn’t blame him. Hay fever wasn’t only a pain in the ass for you; your constant sneezing and sniffling wasn’t exactly pleasant for the people around you, either. Michael, however, was always patient. He made sure the house was plenty stocked with tissues and always reminded you to take your medicine and use your eye drops. He understood that you weren’t feeling well and did his best to take care of you.
Although he would never say it out loud, you knew deep down it could get a little frustrating when you often felt too congested to do anything fun and when he had to share a bed with you when your allergies kept you up at night.
This night was a particularly rough one. No matter how many times you blew your nose, it always seemed to clog up again soon after, sneeze after sneeze racking your body. No amount of eye drops could fend off the itchiness and the skin around your eyes was sore and raw from rubbing them so much.
As much as you tried to be quiet, you could feel Michael flinch awake beside you every time, just about to fall asleep when you let out a sneeze, reached for a tissue, or rolled over to be able to breathe better. He would always let out a sympathetic sigh and press a kiss to whatever his lips could reach first before starting to drift off again.
The most recent sigh due to the most recent sneeze seemed a little more aggressive, a little more forceful and less sympathetic. Maybe you were overreacting, as Michael always said it didn’t bother him, but you felt bad. It wasn’t fair that he had to stay up just because you couldn’t bring yourself to sleep.
“I’m sorry, babe,” you whispered with guilt. You crawled out of Michael’s grasp and stood, grabbing a couple pillows and the box of tissues that you kept on your nightstand. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“Hm? What?” It took him a moment to register what you said in his half asleep state, but he realized it as soon as his eyes adjusted in the dark to see you out of bed with pillows in your arms. “Why?”
“I’m keeping you up.”
“No, you’re not keeping me up,” he fibbed groggily, reaching across the bed to grab at your arm. You were keeping him up, if he was being honest, but he was never going to complain about it. He never lied when he said he didn’t mind. He knew you couldn’t help it and he preferred to have you near to comfort and help you, whether or not he got a good night’s sleep.
“Yes, I am. I’ll be fine, don’t worry. You have to get up early for the studio tomorrow, you need to sleep.”
“I won’t get any sleep without you.”
“You won’t get any sleep if I’m in here, either.”
Michael huffed and you could just make out the pout on his lips in the darkness.
“I’d rather not get any sleep listening to you sneeze all night than not get any sleep knowing you’re downstairs not feeling well by yourself. Just stay, angel, please. I promise you’re not bothering me.”
It was your turn to huff. You still felt bad, but if neither of you were going to get any sleep, you might as well be together. Michael’s pout transformed into a sleepy grin when you set the pillows and tissues down. He lifted his arm as an invitation for you to lie underneath it, and you gladly accepted. You pressed your back to his chest, always wanting to face away from him at night so you wouldn’t accidentally sneeze on him.
“How about we put on a movie?” He mumbled, fingertips trailing up and down your arm. “It’ll help you fall asleep.”
“You won’t sleep, though.”
“I’ll turn it off once you’re asleep. It’s fine.”
Michael was the type that needed complete silence and complete darkness to fall asleep. The only sounds he could fall asleep to was the sound of a fan, and after years of touring, the sound of a bus. And once he met you, the sound of your soft breathing always made him feel at ease. Everything else was too distracting. Even white noise such as nature sounds kept him up. Movies were completely out of the question with their dialogue and music, and the light from the television. You, on the other hand, were always able to fall asleep during movies. You could turn the sound into background noise and let it lull you to sleep. You still felt bad about keeping him up but you agreed to let him put something on. He got to pick, knowing you wouldn’t be awake too long to care.
Soon enough, your sneezes stopped and your breathing evened out, albeit a bit raspy from your congestion. He clicked off the television and pulled you closer. He let your breaths and the knowledge that your allergies couldn’t bother you while you were asleep soothe him to sleep as well.
…
You managed to stay asleep most of the night, although you did wake up feeling absolutely awful a few times. Michael’s soft snores and warm chest always quickly coaxed you back to sleep before you completely woke up. You didn’t fully wake up until you felt Michael’s weight leave the bed. Time for him to go to the studio.
You stayed in bed until you heard him grab his phone off his nightstand and walk around to your side. He paused, as if debating on waking you up or not. You peeled your crusty eyes open, not wanting to let him leave without a goodbye.
“Hey, you,” he whispered with a grin. “How are you feeling today?”
“Not great. It’ll be better once I take my medicine, though.”
He hummed and sat on the edge of the bed next to you. He took in your puffy eyes and nasal voice, thankful that he wasn’t cursed with seasonal allergies but knowing he would take them on if it meant you didn’t have them.
“Did you sleep well?” He asked, grabbing your hand that stuck out from under the sheets. You nodded softly.
“‘Cause I stayed with you,” you mumbled lovingly. Michael chuckled, bending down to press a kiss to your forehead.
“Knew it. You should go back to sleep for a while, we were up late.”
“I’ll try,” you sigh and sniffle. “Wish you could, too.”
Feigning an illness and staying home to cuddle suddenly seemed tempting, but Michael knew he was needed for vocals at the studio.
“Not today, angel.” He bent down again and kissed your lips this time. “Shouldn’t be too long. I’ll see you soon, okay? Don’t forget your medicine.”
“I won’t,” you giggle. “Love you, babe. Have a good day.”
“Love you, angel.”
You managed to get another hour or so of sleep before daily duties forced you out of bed, regardless of how awful you felt. Michael texted you a few times throughout the day to check on you and make sure you remembered your meds. You got plenty of cuddles from him once he got home, finally getting a decent night’s sleep knowing that you had a partner who loved and cared for you deeply.
A/N: is this me projecting what i wish i had as a kid? yeah :) anyway. i probably got this idea from tiktok i doubt i actually came up with it lmao. but hey i haven’t written (wrote?? idk) in a hot minute so go me :))))

Something that was extremely important to you and Ashton when you had children was that they trusted you. You wanted to create an environment for them that was safe, healthy, and open. You wanted your kids to be able to be honest with you and not be afraid to share their feelings with you.
Once your little Kennedy came along and her second birthday passed, Ashton came up with an idea. He called it “happy checks.” Once or twice a week, you or him would take Kenny into your bedroom and sit on the bed. That was a safe space for her to tell you or talk about anything she wanted; you couldn’t get angry and Kenny wouldn’t get in trouble. You would ask how she was feeling and if there was anything she wanted to talk about. She didn’t really get it at first, but as time went on, she started to grasp the concept.
It was working well; she was getting very good with being able to talk about her feelings and work through them, whether they were good or bad feelings. She was a very emotional toddler, and happy checks were really good for her. Sometimes it would be small things, like a movie she watched made her feel sad or seeing Duke at Uncle Calum’s house made her happy. Sometimes she would ask questions or not say much at all. No matter what it was, she could talk about it, and you or Ashton would be there to listen.
Not long after Kennedy turned two, the twins, Finley and Alex, came along. She was ecstatic. The thought of being a big sister was very exciting to her, and when they were finally born, she loved to hold them and tell them stories she made up. She always shared her toys with them, even when they didn’t know what to do with them, and always wanted them to watch her favorite movies with her.
Now, Kennedy’s third birthday and the twins’ first weren’t too far off. Another baby had been on yours and Ashton’s minds, but you wanted to wait until the twins were a little older like you did with Kenny so they could understand better.
One afternoon had you on nap duty with the twins, which tended to take a while. Kenny was with Ashton in his music room, quietly playing with her stuffed animals while Ashton strummed his guitar softly. Kenny loved being in there with him. She wasn’t always allowed to, since Ashton actually had to get work done sometimes, but when she was, it was almost therapeutic for her. Sometimes they would each do their own thing quietly while he simply kept an eye on her, other times Ashton would show her his instruments or play for her.
Ashton noticed Kennedy wasn’t herself that day. She had a slight pout on her lips, and her movements with her toys weren’t as energetic as they normally were. He didn’t say anything at first, wondering if she would come to him, but soon enough the look of sadness on her face was too much for him to bear.
“Kenny, sweetheart?” He asked softly as he set his guitar on it’s stand.
She looked up from her stuffed animals and Ashton crouched in front of her on the floor. He was good at appearing non threatening and caring, and he could tell Kenny could see that in him.
“You want to have a happy check?” He asked, making sure to keep his voice even and soothing. She nodded and reached her little arms out to be picked up.
Ashton lifted the girl into his arms, a hand rubbing over her back as he carried her upstairs to the bedroom. You caught a glimpse of them walking by the twins’ room as you worked on getting them changed and heard the bedroom door shut; you knew it was time for a happy check.
Ashton propped himself up against the headboard of the bed and let Kenny settle in his lap before he spoke up.
“How are you feeling right now, Kenny?” He asked gently, his hand never ceasing to rub her back, comforting her. He waited patiently for her answer as she thought about her words.
“I feel sad,” she finally mumbled. She fiddled with the ruffles on her skirt to distract herself, and he took it as a sign that this was something more than a sad scene in a Disney movie that upset her.
“It’s okay to feel sad, sweetheart,” he affirmed. Validating her feelings was something you and Ashton always made sure to do during happy checks. You didn’t want her to feel embarrassed about what she was feeling, or feel like she couldn’t express it. “Do you want to tell me why you feel sad?”
She took a minute to think about her words again, still twisting her skirt in her hands and not looking up at Ashton.
“Finny and Alex.”
Ashton’s eyebrows furrowed for a moment at her response, but he quickly neutralized his expression. He couldn’t imagine what Finley and Alex, her baby twin siblings less than a year old, had done to upset her, but this was a safe space. She was allowed to talk about whatever she wanted, and everything she was feeling was valid.
“Finley and Alex are making you feel sad?” She nodded. “Why is that?”
“I…” she trailed off and buried her head into Ashton’s chest with a whimper. He wasn’t sure if that was frustration about being unsure of how to put her feelings into words or being embarrassed to say it at all. Ashton dipped his head down to press a comforting kiss to her curls.
“It’s alright, sweetheart, take your time. Remember, this is your safe space. You can tell me anything you want.”
She went quiet again, taking her time to feel through her emotions and think about them, and Ashton gave her the grace to do so.
“I miss being with you and Mommy,” she explained, voice strained. She glanced up at Ashton, and his heart broke at her glassy eyes.
“What do you mean, sweetheart?” He coaxed gently, trying to piece together what she was saying. He wiped away the single tear that slipped down her cheek and planted another kiss on her head.
“I like it when Finny and Alex are with us,” she began, interrupted by a sniffle. “But sometimes I want it to be just me, you and Mommy.”
Ashton finally understood. As much as she loved the twins, she wanted some alone time with her parents like before they were born, and that was completely understandable. Keeping track of three kids was hard enough, but two of them being babies was even more difficult. Sometimes Finley and Alex needed more of yours and Ashton’s attention, and Kenny was clearly feeling a bit left out.
“I understand, sweetheart. You miss spending time with just me and Mommy, yeah?” He confirmed, earning a small nod in response as she leaned her head against his chest again. “That’s perfectly okay, Kenny. I know it was a big change when Finley and Alex arrived, and you do such a good job being a big sister. Since they’re so little, they need some extra help with things that you don’t need as much help with, right? That’s why sometimes they need a little more of Mommy and I’s attention. Do you understand that, Kenny?”
She nodded again, still sniffling a bit. Before Ashton could continue, the bedroom door cracked open, and you peaked your head in. You finally got both the twins to sleep, and you needed to pass through the bedroom.
“Am I interrupting?” You whispered, knowing they were talking.
“Would you like Mommy to come sit with us?” Ashton offered, and you heard a soft “yeah” from Kenny. You gently shut the door behind you and made your way to join your husband and daughter on the bed. Kenny reached her arms out to you as you sat down, and you gently lifted her from Ashton’s lap into yours.
“We’re having a happy check,” Ashton explained, wrapping one arm around your shoulders and reaching the other across to hold Kenny’s little hand. “Do you want to tell Mommy what you told me, sweetheart?”
Kenny repeated what she told Ashton, you taking over rubbing her back to comfort her. You couldn’t help but feel bad; she had been lonely and you didn’t notice.
“Oh, baby, Daddy and I never meant to make you feel sad,” you began, stealing what Ashton was about to explain before you came in. “Daddy and I love you just as much as we love your brother and sister. It’s okay to miss being alone with us, even though I know you love your siblings.”
“Mhm,” Kenny hummed. She took in your words and was starting to understand, and most importantly, she wasn’t ashamed of her feelings. Even if she didn’t quite understand now, you hoped that when she got older she would realize how beneficial being able to share her feelings is, and always feel she could trust her parents to talk about them.
“This weekend, how about we take Finley and Alex to one of your uncles’ house and the three of us can spend some time together? How does that sound, sweetheart?” Ashton suggested, offering a solution to her sadness. Her face lit up at the suggestion, nodding her head quickly.
“We get fries?” She asked, and you and Ashton chuckled. She was obsessed with French fries, and there was a specific diner that had her favorite ones.
“We can get fries, baby. We can do anything you want.”
She giggled in satisfaction. Ashton rubbed his thumb over the top of her hand and sent her a loving smile.
“Is there anything else you want to talk about?” He asked. She shook her head. “Alright. How are you feeling now?” At the end of every happy check, you always asked how she was feeling again so she could compare how she felt before and after.
“Happy,” she mumbled, curling further into your chest. “And sleepy.”
“I think it’s nap time for you, then, sweet girl,” you responded, starting to stand up from the bed. “Do you want to give Daddy a kiss before you go night night?”
Ashton lifted her into his arms and pressed multiple kisses to her cheeks. She laughed sleepily, giving a wet kiss to his cheek once he finished.
“I love you so much, sweetheart,” he mumbled. “Sweet dreams.”
“Love you, Daddy,” she yawned as Ashton passed her back to you.
You put her down for her nap before joining Ashton back in the bedroom. He had laid back down on the bed, clearly waiting for you.
“You think she’s okay?” You asked him as you rested your head on his chest. He nodded as he pulled you closer.
“I think so. These happy checks are really good for her, I think,” he mumbled. He glanced down at you with a tender smile. “You can come to me for happy checks too, you know.”
You chuckled and kissed the bottom of his jaw.
“I know. And you can have them with me, too.”
“I know.”
You fell into a comforting silence, both of you simply reflecting. You knew you were giving your children a happy household, and that was something you both took a lot of pride in.

“Are you excited to see Daddy play tonight?”
“Yeah!” Kai cheered excitedly, practically bouncing in his car seat.
This was Kai’s first time seeing the guys perform. Aroha had seen them a couple times, but she didn’t remember the shows. For Aroha and Kai’s first time seeing the band together, Calum got them matching 5 Seconds of Summer t-shirts in child’s sizes with “Hood” printed on the back, and then surprised you with one as well. Of course, he got one for himself, and you secretly hoped he would wear it on stage.
Calum was already at the venue for soundcheck, and you were just arriving from the airport. He had been on tour for about a month, and the kids were already restless to see him again, so you and Calum worked out a plan to come visit. You were sure this would be one of multiple visits for the tour; not that you minded.
The car that was sent to pick you up eventually pulled up to the back of the venue, and you ushered Aroha and Kai out of the car as the driver assured you that your luggage would be taken to a safe place until you were ready to head to the hotel. You kindly thanked the man and slipped him a tip before being let inside by the security guard.
Much to your surprise, Calum was standing just inside waiting for you. Big smiles spread across your faces, and Aroha and Kai were quick to drop your hands to run to him.
“Daddy!” They exclaimed, reaching their little arms up to hug him. Calum dropped to his knees and pulled them close, peppering their cheeks with loving kisses.
“Oh, my babies, I’ve missed you so much!” He cheered. The feeling of his kids in his arms was one that could never be beat. He would miss these days, when they were so little and so enthusiastic. The mere thought of his babies growing up made his heart clench, and he tried to keep those thoughts out of his mind as much as possible and cherish the moments he had.
“We’re gonna see you sing tonight, Daddy!” Aroha announced as if he didn’t already know. Calum chuckled and ruffled the dark curls on her head.
“I know, peanut, I’m excited! Are you guys excited?”
He received passionate affirmations from both children and the smile that had been resting on his lips since he saw the door open only got wider. He pressed one more kiss to each of their foreheads before starting to stand up right.
“Let me say hi to Mommy, okay?” He mumbled, releasing his grip on them and making his way over to you. He noticed the happy tears welling in your eyes as he opened his arms, and you wasted no time in throwing yourself at him. You breathed in the scent of his cologne and relished in the familiar feeling of his arms around you.
“I missed you so much,” you whispered, feeling his lips come in contact with your hairline.
“I missed you, too, sweetheart,” he sighed. He tilted your head up to capture your lips in a sweet kiss, making up for all the kisses you didn’t get to share in the past month of him being gone. You could hear Aroha and Kai express their disgust at the affection, but you and Calum only chuckled lightly against each other at the childish actions.
As you pulled away from the hug, your gaze landed on the shirt he was wearing. Just like you had hoped, he was wearing the band shirt that you and the kids had on, over his long sleeved black and white striped shirt.
“You gonna wear that shirt on stage tonight?” You asked hopefully, smiling brightly up at him.
“‘Course I’m wearing it. Gotta match with you guys.”
You let out a giggle, and Calum cocked his head to the side to lead you to the dressing room that he was in. Aroha and Kai immediately reached up to grab his hands, and you walked beside them. The kids talked his ear off the whole walk back, asking him questions and telling him all about the travel to get there. He listened intently with a smile, trying to answer their questions quickly before they moved on to the next thing.
As you all turned the corner to the dressing room, another voice caught your attention.
“Would you look at that, it’s the Hood kiddos!”
“Uncle Ash!”
Aroha and Kai ran to greet Ashton who lifted them both up off the ground, spinning around as they giggled wildly. It made both you and Calum nervous for a moment, but you trusted him.
“Y/N, hey!”
You turned at the sound of your name, shooting a smile to Luke and Sierra as they approached you with open arms.
“Hey, you.”
You shared a quick hug with them as the kids found Uncle Mikey, and Ashton came up to greet you as well. Michael greeted you last while Aroha and Kai ran to Luke and Sierra.
“How about we have a family cuddle before the show?” Calum suggested when Aroha and Kai returned to you. Everyone perked up at the suggestion; family cuddles were very common in the Hood household, and there never really needed to be a reason. You all simply loved snuggling in together and being close.
Calum led you into the dressing room and immediately flopped onto the large couch, opening his arms.
“Come on, my loves. I haven’t gotten a good cuddle in a month.”
You took your usual spot next to him, laying on your back by his side as Aroha and Kai climbed on top of you, snuggling into your chests. Calum sighed in content, one hand resting on Aroha’s back while the other wiggled around to find yours. He laced your fingers together and gave them a squeeze.
“Love you guys,” Calum mumbled, his eyes on you. “Thank you for coming to see me.”
“We love you, too,” you whispered in return, a soft smile on your face. “We’ll always come see you, bubba.”
Calum tilted his head to peck your lips, feeling beyond fulfilled having his wonderful family with him while he did what he loved. It wasn’t easy, being away from his wife and kids, but he managed to survive. You all did. It still broke his heart when he received late night texts from you, informing that Aroha or Kai had been crying for him, and he couldn’t be there to hold them and soothe them.
The four of you cuddled and talked quietly amongst yourselves until a knock on the door got your attention, and the voice on the outside informed you that there was ten minutes until showtime. The kids begrudgingly crawled off the couch, wishing you could cuddle a little longer but still excited to see the show, and you and Calum both stood up, still holding hands.
You exited the dressing room and a crew member handed Calum his bass.
“Wait!” You announced, slipping your phone from the pocket of your jeans. “We need a family picture in our matching shirts.”
Calum chuckled and called Ashton over to take the picture. You and Calum crouched down behind Aroha and Kai, and everybody smiled wide for the camera. You then took one with your backs to the camera, making sure to get in “Hood” printed on the back.
“Thanks, Ash,” you mumbled gratefully as you took your phone back, making a mental note to send them to Calum and put them on Instagram later.
“You’ll need these,” another crew member said as he walked up, holding out two pairs of headphones for the kids. You remembered Aroha hated them in the past, whining and trying to pull them off, and you could only hope that she would deal with them better this time around. She also hated the noise even with the headphones on, and you thought it would be safe to assume that she wouldn’t like it this time either. You grabbed one pair and Calum grabbed the other.
“What are these for?” Kai asked curiously as Calum knelt down in front of them to place them on his head. He cringed for a moment as they slipped over his ears, and he patted them with his little hands for a moment, but he didn’t seem to be hating them.
“They protect your ears, bud,” he explained, softly pinching his cheek. “The music is going to be very loud.”
Just as he finished his explanation, he heard a whine come from Aroha.
“No, Mommy! Don’t like them!”
“I know they’re uncomfortable, sweetheart, but you’ll hurt your ears if you don’t wear them.” You tried to reason with her nicely. “Look, Kai is wearing them!”
She glanced over at her brother with a scrunched up face for a moment, but still shook her head. Calum sighed, hearing the conversation, and plucked the headphones off her head before placing them on his own.
“Daddy is wearing them, too!” He exclaimed, hoping that seeing him wearing them would make her feel better about it. She still looked hesitant, so Calum beckoned over Luke.
“Hey, put these on,” Calum muttered under his breath, handing them to him. Luke shot him a questioning look. “Just do it, please.” Luke placed them on his head slowly, still looking confused. “Uncle Luke wears them too!”
Luke caught on to what Calum was doing and nodded his head.
“Do I like pretty, Roro?” Luke joked, striking a silly pose. Aroha giggled loudly, nodding her head.
“Pretty,” she repeated and beamed at her uncle. Luke handed the headphones back to Calum, quickly fixing his hair.
“You look very pretty in them too,” Luke added, and Calum slowly placed them back on her head. Thankfully she didn’t argue any further, and you silently did a cheer that there were no tears this time.
“Two minutes, boys!”
You followed Calum backstage, and the screams of the fans were already loud. Aroha and Kai’s hands immediately flew to their headphones, pressing them further into their ears.
“It’s ok, loves, just the crowd,” Calum mumbled soothingly.
“Say ‘good luck’ to Daddy, babies!” You encouraged, and Calum crouched down to pull them into his arms. They chorused their good luck wishes, beyond excited to see their father and their uncles sing.
“Play Mesia, Daddy!” Kai cheered enthusiastically. He meant Amnesia, which was his favorite song of the guys, but he had trouble pronouncing it, so it always came out as “Mesia.” He always danced to it like it was an upbeat, happy song, trying to sing along, and you had many videos that you and Calum always sent to Luke, Michael and Ashton.
“And Youngblood!” Aroha added in her favorite song.
“Don’t worry, we’ll play both of those,” Calum chuckled, giving them each another kiss on the cheek before standing up. “You guys stay by Mommy during the show, okay?”
They nodded in agreement as Calum came over to you, pulling you into his arms again. You pressed a kiss to his jaw, something you always did before he went on stage when you were there to watch shows. It was like your little good luck charm for him.
“Kill it out there, rockstar,” you mumbled, shooting him a grin. He smiled lovingly.
“I will, angel. For you, as always.”
One more kiss and you pulled away as Michael called his name to head on stage.
Once the guys got on stage, you and the kids stood in the wings to watch with Sierra. As soon as the music started, you barely heard Aroha whimper slightly as she backed up into your legs, holding her headphones. You knew she hated loud noise and crowds, but she managed, and you hoped it would get better as she got older. You bent down to her height.
“It’s okay, sweetheart, Mommy’s right here,” you mumbled loud enough so she could hear, and you saw her nod before you stood back up.
She tried to ignore the loudness as the show went on, bouncing around to the music with Kai and singing along to the words she knew. They both cheered for Calum every time he sang, and you could see the smile on his face grow a little bit each time.
“You want to tell everyone about your shirt, Cal?” Michael asked between songs.
“Oh, this?” Calum teased, doing a silly little dance to show off his shirt that made everyone laugh. “Yeah, my wife, Y/N, and my kids, Aroha and Kai are backstage watching right now, and we all have matching shirts. I couldn’t not match with them tonight.”
The crowd awed at his words, and he turned to you and the kids to blow you a kiss.
“Love you guys.”
The kids cheered loudly and you returned the kiss, heart swelling with love for the man in front of you. He was an amazing husband and an even better father, and you couldn’t ask for anything more.
Calum talked for a bit longer before they started playing again, and Aroha turned around towards you with her arms stretched upwards. You lifted her into your arms and noticed the distressed look on her face.
“Too loud, Mommy,” she whimpered, burying her head into your neck. The headphones dug uncomfortably into your collarbone, but you ignored it. “Wanna go.”
“The show’s not over yet, sweetheart,” you mumbled, rubbing her back to soothe her. “Don’t you want to stay and watch Daddy?”
She shook her head, and you sighed in defeat. As much as you wanted to watch, you didn’t want Aroha to be miserable. You thought for a moment, and then remembered that there was a screen in the dressing room.
“Do you want to go back to the dressing room?” You offered. “There’s a screen that we can watch Daddy on, and it won’t be as loud.”
She nodded in agreement, and you bent down to tap Kai on the shoulder. He stopped his adorable dancing for a moment to turn to face you.
“Aroha and I are going to watch Daddy in the dressing room. Do you want to come or do you want to stay here?”
“Stay here!” He answered, crossing his arms. The noise didn’t bother him at all; he was absolutely loving his first concert.
“Okay, that’s fine, buddy. One second.”
You stood up to get Sierra’s attention.
“I’m going to take Aroha to watch from the dressing room, the noise is scaring her. Think you can keep an eye on Kai for me?” You asked hopefully. You didn’t want to ruin Kai’s experience for him.
“Of course!” She answered with a smile, and you thanked her before bending back down to Kai’s height.
“You’re going to stay with Aunt Sierra, okay? Daddy will take you to the dressing room after the show,” you explained, and he nodded, then running over to join Sierra.
You slipped the headphones off Aroha’s head as you got further away from the stage, and she rubbed at her ears to get the discomfort away.
“You okay, sweet girl?” You asked softly as you entered the dressing. She hummed in affirmation and picked her head up from your shoulder. Your heart broke at the tears welling in her eyes that she tried so hard to fight back. You pressed a kiss to her forehead as you sat down on the couch and held her so you could both see the screen. “It’s alright, baby.”
Aroha was perfectly content to watch the show from there, dancing in your lap and cheering even though Calum couldn’t hear her. She always loved to hear Calum sing and watch him play, but the noise was too much for her.
Shortly after you and Aroha left, the guys came offstage for a quick break. Calum looked around for you and the kids, but he only saw Kai with Sierra, which made his eyebrows furrow in both confusion and worry.
“Daddy!” Kai cheered, reaching out his arms to be lifted. Calum did so gladly, pressing kisses to his chubby cheeks.
“Hey, buddy, are you having fun?” He asked. Kai nodded excitedly and Calum turned to Sierra. “Where did Y/N and Aroha go?”
“Aroha was scared of the noise, so Y/N took her back to the dressing room to watch from there,” she explained, and Calum felt his heart clench. It hurt him when his little girl was scared, and as much as he wanted to go give her a cuddle, there wasn’t time for that. He trusted that you were giving her all the cuddles she could ask for.
Kai babbled for a few minutes about the show before Calum had to go back on stage, and he set him back on his feet.
By the time the guys took their final bows and exited the stage, Kai was being held by Sierra, clearly tired, even though he would never admit it. Calum chuckled and plucked his son from her arms, and Kai was quick to rest his head on Calum’s shoulder.
“Did you have fun, Kai?” He asked as he pressed a kiss to his forehead, slowly making his way back to the dressing room where he already knew you and Aroha were. Kai nodded slowly, his adrenaline and excitement quickly wearing off.
“Can we watch you again tomorrow?” He mumbled, and Calum laughed softly.
“Not tomorrow, buddy. We’re going to have fun in the city tomorrow with your uncles, how does that sound?”
“Then can we have waffles for breakfast?”
“Sure, we can have waffles,” Calum chuckled at Kai’s sleepy state. He discovered Aroha was feeling similar as he entered the dressing room, her being cuddled into your chest with her eyes barely open. The late night was clearly getting to them.
“Daddy,” she called softly with a smile once she saw him. She reached out for him, and Calum picked her up as he handed Kai to you.
“Hi, peanut,” he mumbled, giving Aroha a forehead kiss of her own. “Aunt Sierra told me you didn’t like the noise, are you okay now?”
She nodded, snuggling into him like she always did when she was tired. You stood up from the couch to give Calum a kiss.
“You were amazing, bubba,” you murmured. He always amazed you with his talent, and watching him perform was one of your favorite things to do.
“Thanks, my love,” he returned lovingly. “Should we head out to the hotel now, get some sleep?”
“Definitely,” you chuckled. “It is way past their bedtime.”
“I’m not sleepy,” Aroha lied, causing you and Calum to both laugh.
“Whatever you say, peanut.”
By the time you left the venue and got to the hotel, Aroha and Kai were both fast asleep in their carseats, much like you and Calum had expected. You and Calum carefully unbuckled them and picked them up, asking for the luggage to be brought to the room.
Once you got checked in and headed to the room, you settled the sleeping kids in one bed and pulled the covers over them to let them sleep. You and Calum got ready for bed and got comfortable in the other bed. He easily pulled you into his arms, your favorite place to be.
“Thank you again for coming, baby,” he whispered as not to wake the kids. “I love you so much.”

After a long day at work, all you wanted to do was cuddle up with Luke and Petunia, watch Elf for the millionth time just to feel something, and drown your feelings in hot chocolate. You were exhausted, and you knew you could count on your favorite boy and your favorite girl to make you feel better.
As soon as you walked through the door, you were greeted by Petunia, and you had to do a quick double take as you bent down to pet her. You couldn’t help but smile as she followed you into the kitchen where Luke was.
“Are you responsible for the dog wearing reindeer antlers?” You asked, making him look up from his phone. He giggled and nodded, gesturing to Petunia.
“Doesn’t she look so cute and festive?” He cooed. You rolled your eyes lovingly as you stepped into his open arms, melting into his touch. “You okay, baby?”
“Just a long day,” you sighed, burying your face deeper into his chest. “Seeing reindeer Piggy made me feel a bit better, though.”
Luke chuckled as he kissed your forehead. He could tell by the way that you leaned into him that you were really wiped out.
“I’m sorry, baby. How about Elf and hot chocolate to make you feel even better?”
It was your turn to laugh; he knew you all too well. Your go-to pick me ups when you were down during the holiday season was that movie and your favorite brand of hot chocolate.
“Yes, please.”
“Go get comfy and I’ll make the hot chocolate, okay?”
You immediately agreed and ran upstairs to change out of your work clothes. By the time you came down in your coziest leggings and hoodie, Luke had two mugs of hot chocolate sitting on the coffee table in the living room, Elf queued up on the television.
Luke’s heart melted as you turned the corner into the living room. He just loved how comfy and soft you looked, and all he wanted to do was snuggle you.
“C’mere, sweets,” he mumbled, opening his arms for you. You easily cuddled up beside him, grabbing your hot chocolate before getting comfy with your head against his shoulder. He rested his cheek against the top of your head. “Gonna make it through the movie?”
“No promises,” you giggled, feeling his chest rumble as he laughed too. “I’ll try, though.”
With that, Luke clicked play, and you settled in to watch. Miraculously, you stayed awake through the whole movie; it was probably the hot chocolate that gave you a second wind.
“You tired?” You asked, peering up at Luke. “I think I could go for one more hot chocolate. Probably should have dinner, too.”
“Sounds good, baby.”
You slowly peeled yourself away from him and made your way to the kitchen, peering into the fridge to see what you could make. You jumped when you felt Luke’s arms wrap around your waist from behind.
“Don’t feel like cooking,” he grumbled into your neck. “I vote DoorDash.”
You nodded because you really didn’t feel like cooking either. After deciding on a restaurant and placing an order, you whipped up another two mugs of hot chocolate. As you did that, Luke fiddled with his phone until Baby, It’s Cold outside started playing from the speaker.
“I need a duet partner,” he mumbled, extending his hand towards you. You smiled lovingly and shook your head, leaning against the counter.
“I think you should just sing for me,” you reasoned. “Don’t want my hot chocolate to get cold.”
“I can’t sing both parts in Baby, It’s Cold Outside by myself!” He argued with a grin, taking your mug and setting it on the counter. “Come on, it’ll make you feel better. You start.”
You sighed as he pulled you into the middle of the kitchen, swaying with him to the beat of the music.
“I really can’t stay,” you sang half heartedly, more content watching Luke trying to get you to get into it.
“Baby, it’s cold outside,” he sang back in a comically low voice. You laughed through your next line, and he kept up the voice through his. You started to move a little more, bumping your hip against his and trying not to laugh at his dramatic performance.
You were both laughing by the time the song ended, and he pulled you in for a passionate kiss. You smiled into the affection, hands cupping his warm cheeks.
“We do a pretty good duet, I’d say,” he murmured as he pulled away, grinning brightly down at you. “You were a little pitchy, though.”
You feigned an offended gasp and swatted his chest playfully.
“Kidding, baby,” he mumbled through his laugh, pulling you in for another peck. “You were perfect.”

“You know what you’re doing, right?”
“Yeah, babe, I’ve done this before. No worries.”
Calum watched as you laid out all the hair dying supplies on the sink, perched on the toilet seat. He had agreed to let you dye the ends of his hair pink for Valentine’s Day, and he was excited for the change. You had been throwing around subtle hints that you wanted him to grow his hair out, specifically for sexual purposes, and a fun way to do something a little different was to go pink.
You began mixing the color, and Calum stood up to help you.
“How light do you want it?” You asked, glancing up at him. He shrugged, resting his elbows on the sink.
“I was thinking about just going all out and doing, like, hot pink.”
You grinned, nodding furiously. You loved that he was willing to do this, and you knew that he was going to look so good, and you could already imagine your fingers tangled in the pretty pink ends.
“That will look so good, Cal. You should totally do that.”
He helped you get the color how he wanted it before he sat back down on the toilet for you to apply it into his hair.
“Up to like, here,” he said, using his hand to show you how far down he wanted to pink to go until it stayed natural. You nodded, and then, with gloves on, carefully got to work on painting the color into his curls. He watched you with a loving grin as you worked, loving the way your eyebrows furrowed and you bit your lip in concentration and took such care in making sure his hair looked perfect. He knew you were no professional, but he trusted you to do a good job, and he didn’t dare talk and distract you.
“All right, now we just have to wait for it to set.”
You cleaned up the bathroom a bit before making your way to the living room so you’d be more comfortable while you waited. He pulled in a chair from the kitchen so he wouldn’t risk getting hair dye on the couch, and you sat at the end of the couch next to him.
“Maybe you should red or green for Christmas next,” you suggested, leaning on the arm of the couch. He laughed and playfully rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, I’d love to look like a Christmas tree,” he replied sarcastically, but the look on his face was loving.
“You dyed your hair blue and looked like a blueberry. Now your hair is about to be pink and you’re going to look like a Valentine’s Day candy heart. You should have no problem with a Christmas tree.”
“Guess that’s true. I should just change my hair for every holiday at this point.”
“I think you should, as long as you keep it long and curly,” you mumbled, sending him a wink. He only winked back, reaching across the arm of the couch to squeeze your thigh.
“Anything for you, sweetheart.”
You chatted until the timer on your phone went off, signalling Calum’s hair was ready to be rinsed out. You both got up and headed back upstairs and into the bathroom.
“Wanna hop in the shower? It’ll be easier,” he suggested, and you nodded at his suggestion. You were both quick to strip yourselves of your clothes and step under the warm water.
“Let me do it,” you murmured, reaching your hands into his hair to rinse it out. His eyes fell shut as he tilted his head back under the water, loving the feeling of you touching his hair. He always did, no matter what the situation was.
After it was rinsed, you got out and dried off, and then you dried his hair to see the final product.
Your mouth fell open as you looked at it, a smile spreading across your face. He was facing away from the mirror, refusing to let him see it.
“Oh, my god! Cal! It looks so good!” You exclaimed excitedly. “You make the cutest candy heart!”
“Yeah? Looks good?” He questioned with a grin, turning around to look. He smiled and nodded, very happy with the results, running his fingers through the newly pink curls. “It does look good. You did an awesome job, sweetheart, thank you.”
He turned back around to face you, snaking his arms around your waist and pressing his lips to yours.
“I think we need to take a picture for Instagram, yeah?” He suggested, pulling his phone out from the pocket of his sweats. You nodded in agreement, positioning yourselves in front of the mirror. He handed you his phone and kept his arms around your waist, pressing his cheek against yours with a soft grin. You smiled as well, taking a few pictures, and then changing up the pose a few times. You still liked the first one best, and you each posted it to your Instagram accounts.

got a request?
✰✰✰
“You’re not a very quiet drunk, you know.”
You peaked up from the glass of water sat in front of you to see your smirking roommate coming into the kitchen, making his way to the fridge.
“How do you know I was drunk?” You grumble, trying to ignore the headache pounding at your skull and wishing the Advil you had taken would kick in faster.
“Well, first of all, you’re clearly hungover. And I could hear you stumbling around in here last night doing God knows what.”
The night before, you had gone out with some friends for a night of drinking. After the Uber had dropped you off at your apartment building at nearly three in the morning, you decided you were hungry, and attempted to make pizza rolls. You had done your best to be quiet, knowing Calum was probably asleep, but apparently, you weren’t successful.
“I was making food,” you returned, shooting him a glare. “You’ve woken me up in the middle of the night before making noise, anyway. Sorry I interrupted your beauty sleep.”
You and Calum weren’t exactly the closest of roommates. Most conversations consisted of making jabs at each other or arguing over something silly. You tended to avoid each other for the most part, doing your own thing. The most time you spent together was silently watching something on Netflix together in the evenings, sitting on opposite ends of the couch. It was never planned, but you both knew you were welcome to join whenever the other clicked the TV on.
As annoying as Calum could be, you couldn’t really bring yourself to hate him. He actually was a sweet guy. He was funny, attentive, always paid the bills on time and was good about keeping up his share of the groceries. He also liked to walk around the apartment in just underwear, which you always made a show of rolling your eyes at, but you didn’t exactly hate what you saw. In fact, you liked it a lot, if you were being honest.
In short, you liked him quite a bit more than you let on. But you would never tell him that.
Calum ignored your comment and closed the fridge after pulling out a cup of yogurt. He then made his way over to the coffee maker for his usual caffeine fix. He turned back to look at you miserably sipping your water and grinned.
“Need some help?”
You looked at him this time in confusion rather than glaring at him.
“Help with what?”
“That hangover. I can make you a coffee.”
This wasn’t the first time that Calum had done something like this for you. If he had to go to work early, sometimes he would leave a full mug out for you to heat up in the microwave, or pick up some food for you if he was getting dinner on his way home. You never really thought much of it, figured he was trying to be courteous. You tried to do the same for him, too. But, he usually did it silently, without asking.
“A cup of coffee would be nice.”
He nodded and turned his attention back to the Keurig, placing a pod of the brew he knew was your favorite into the machine. You picked up your phone to respond to texts from your equally hungover friends, paying him no mind.
He paid more attention to you than you realized. He knew all your little habits and routines, your favorite foods and coffees. He could tell what mood you were in so easily. It never clicked in your mind, but he liked you more than he let on, too.
Calum set your mug on the table in front of you with a word, and then headed back to the counter to make his own. You were about to get up to prepare it the way you like, but one glance into the mug told you it was already done. You furrowed your eyebrows; Calum had made you coffee before, but he usually left it plain to let you prepare it yourself. You didn’t think he knew how you liked it. You took a tentative sip, and realized he did it very well. Perfect, actually.
“How do you know how I take my coffee?” You blurted out, looking up at him. He shrugged as he turned around, taking a sip of his own drink.
“I pay attention.”
“You do?”
“‘Course I do.”
You stared at him in exasperation. You never thought of anything of all the little things he did for you, never realized just how much he knew about you. You thought he was annoyed by you too much to care to pay such close attention. Seems that you were wrong.
“Why do you look so shocked?” Calum asked softly, his casual demeanor falling slightly.
“I don’t know,” you sighed. “I just didn’t think you liked me enough to pay attention to how I like my coffee.”
His gaze fell downward, his cup of coffee suddenly becoming very interesting.
“You thought wrong, then.”
The confession was so quiet you almost didn’t hear it, but the weight of his words rang loud and clear in your mind. You stood up with a racing heart, leaving the coffee on the table and making your way over to him. He set his coffee down as well on the counter behind him. His brown eyes were sincere as they met yours.
“What do you mean by that?” You asked, voice coming out as just a whisper. Could you have been wrong all this time? Could all the teasing and jabs from him have been just a way to hide his feelings, like you had been doing?
Your knees went weak when one tattooed hand came up to cup your cheek.
“I guess I mean that I know I’ve been a bit of a dick to you since we’ve lived together. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t really mean all the shit I say. I think you’re really amazing, actually. I have for a long time. I’ve just been scared to say it.”
A smile tugged at the corners of your lips, and you found the courage to place your hands on his shoulders.
“I think you’re really amazing, too,” you mumbled, and Calum smiled as well.
“But you’re still annoying when you leave the kitchen cabinets open. And leave your towel on the bathroom floor.” You both chuckled at your admittedly bad habits. “Do I love you? Yes. Do I like you? That's still up for debate.”
You giggled at his comment, but the sounds were swallowed by Calum’s lips on yours for the first time ever. As you kissed him back, the taste of coffee on both of your tongues, you were filled with the desire for this to be the first of many kisses to come, and you had a feeling that you wouldn’t be disappointed.

❋❋❋
The black velvet box had been sitting at the bottom of your stocking for three weeks.
Calum meticulously wrapped it in glossy red paper and tucked it inside, setting a few other small things on top of it. He walked past the fireplace everyday, feeling the box inside. It made him smile in excitement but also filled him with nerves. You had talked about marriage before, and there was nothing that Calum wanted more than to marry you, but the jitters still got to him.
On Christmas morning, Calum woke with a racing heart. A mixture of excitement and nerves. He glanced at you in his arms and watched your eyes start to flutter open. A grin overtook his features as he pressed a gentle kiss to your temple.
He was going to ask you to marry him today.
You sighed in content as you rolled over to face him.
“Good morning,” you whispered, and Calum’s hands tugged you closer. “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, my love.”
His lips chased your own, melting into each other. Something about the kiss felt different; for Calum, that is. You were completely unexpecting. You had no clue what was coming. But Calum knew that this day would change your lives.
Once you made it out of bed, you and Calum headed to the kitchen to have breakfast. Calum’s heart rate increased with every passing second but tried to appear as calm as possible on the outside.
“You want to open presents?” You asked once both of your plates were cleared. Calum grinned and nodded, sharing another kiss with you as you placed your plates in the sink and made your way to the living room. He tried to hide the shakiness of his hands in the pockets of his sweats, but you noticed when you handed him his stocking from the fireplace.
“You alright, bubs?” You mumbled, concerned. He only grinned and nodded again.
“I’m perfect, angel.”
You weren’t entirely convinced but decided not to press and enjoy the morning. You insisted he open his stocking first. He purposely went as slow as possible, a mixture of excitement to be engaged to you and nerves about you having changed your mind about marriage for some reason, or you being disappointed with the proposal. It wasn’t much, but he wanted it to be intimate and special, and he hoped you would appreciate that too.
“You turn,” he announced once he finished.
Time felt like it was moving in slow motion as you opened the gifts on top of the ring. He could barely breathe when you pulled out the small box, tearing off the paper and popping the lid open. Just as you were about to tell him how pretty it was, Calum took a deep breath and placed his hand on your knee.
“My love,” he mumbled, a grin spreading across his face. “This Christmas, I’d like you to be my wife.”
Your heart skipped a beat as you pieced together exactly what this ring was for. Tears gathered in your eyes and your hand came to cover your mouth as Calum slid off the couch and onto one knee. He reached for your hand, encasing it in his own.
“Will you marry me?”
You could only nod, no words came out of your mouth. You choked out a sob as Calum grabbed the box from your lap, slipping the ring onto your finger. Falling to your knees in front of him, you pulled him into the tightest hug you had ever given him. Nothing could ever beat how you felt in that moment. The joy, the love, the excitement. It felt so right. You loved Calum with every bit of you, and there was nothing more you wanted than to spend the rest of your life with him.
“I love you so much, Y/N,” Calum whispered, his own voice a bit shaky with tears. All of his nerves had quickly faded into pure happiness and adoration for you. His fiancee.
“I love you, Calum. With everything in me.” You picked your head up from the crook of his neck and finally got a look at him. Both of you were smiling ear to ear with teary eyes. You had dreamed of this moment, and it was finally happening. Your hands trailed up to cup his warm cheeks. “I need a Christmas kiss. Immediately.”
Calum laughed and wasted no time in leaning in. You kissed each other with passion and went right back to grinning widely as soon as you pulled away.
You both climbed back onto the couch and glanced at the pile of presents still sitting under the tree. Calum sighed contentedly, slinging his arm around your shoulders.
“Do you want to open them now? Or after dinner at Luke’s?” He mumbled as he rested his cheek on the top of your head.
“We should do it now, we’ll be too tired later,” you reasoned. “But no gift could ever beat getting engaged to you.”
