Choses the pumpkin: They both do. There was a town flier advertising a hay ride and a pumpkin patch outing so they made a date out of it.

Carves the pumpkin: They both do. Though it didn’t turn out quite the way they had wanted it. They had seen a really cool, intricate jack-o-lantern design and wanted to try it, but instead wound up with a mess. Eventually they arranged everything so it looked like a ‘pumpkin murder/crime scene which worked out fine lol

Gets scared and clings the other in a haunted house: mayyybe Ariel. James I think wouldn’t be as impressed because, with his combat training, he could see the jumpscares a mile away and could still recognize the dwarves even with their costumes. And Ariel is more of a maybe because I think she’d be more impressed with the special effects that she’d forget it’s supposed to be scary. 

Matching costume idea: Ariel would probably suggest Gomez and Morticia Addams, or Jessica and Roger Rabbit. James, knowing either choice would mean Ariel in a skin-tight dress, probably would let her choose and be totally fine either way lol

Makes a cozy bed-fort to cuddle in: Ariel

Steal’s the other’s candy: They typically don’t. Ariel’s not big on sweets so she wouldn’t care either way. I think more than likely they’d just give all their candy to Henry.

Accidentally gets lost in a corn maze: Ariel

Tells spooky stories to scare the other: 

Collects cool-looking leaves: Ariel

BUT ALSO SWAN IN A BLANKET (this is also probably after they realize there’s no pumpkin god lol)

Carves the pumpkin: James and Ariel. Emma gets to help take out the guts and act as ‘creative director’ since she’s probably too little to help carve. 

Gets scared and clings the other in a haunted house: Emma does but then remembers she has her uncle James and aunt Ariel to protect her and at some point she gets a little brave and tries to kick one of the actors in the shin. Ariel ends up having to apologize profusely to the poor guy after they’re escorted out while James leaves with Emma who he praises for being as brave a knight as her amazing uncle who is so much braver and cooler and better than david

Matching costume idea: oh god they’d have so many ideas. they usually pick the family costume theme based on something Emma’s into. Once they all dressed as dinosaurs, another year they dressed as characters from sesame street, another time they dressed as the characters from Toy Story (James was Woody, Ariel was Bo Peep, and Emma was one of her sheep)

Makes a cozy bed-fort to cuddle in: Ariel and James set up a bed fort where the three get together and sort through all the candy Emma got, make sure it’s all safe, and make it a big fun sleepover for their niece

Steal’s the other’s candy: They usually give all their candy to Emma but store it away so she doesn’t eat too much and gets sick.

Tells spooky stories to scare the other: They both take turns narrating spooky stories to Emma. Nothing too spooky she can’t sleep, but they usually have Emma at the edge of her seat because they really ham it up with shadow puppets and plastic fangs and she loves it. spooky stories in the big bed fort is one of her favorite parts about Halloween

so in clearing out my tag notifications i wound up getting sucked into our swan in a blanket tag and came across this (x) and now i can't stop laughing.

ariel meanwhile is like "James stop telling our niece she smells and drools......ok stop telling our niece she smells...."

ff+ Prince Charming

Send me "ff+" and a character name and my character will react to finding and reading a graphic and sex-filled fanfiction of themselves and that character.

She'd heard her cast mates talk about these stories. How erotic most of them were, some dipping into an array of kinks. And while she was never the sort to care for erotic literature, her curiosity got the better of her when they mentioned even their animated selves were among those included in these stories.

For most of the time, she only really scrolled through the archives, clicking on one selection or another, leaving once she'd skimmed through them. And she would have continued browsing, had not one particular story's pairing caught her eye. She scrunched her nose as she re-read the title. "Charming?" she mouthed as her brow formed a deep and tight knit, her mind unable to slot the the two of them together as a pair.

No, don't read it....that is just.....She gave a face as if she meant to spill sick all over herself. But her need to know didn't keep her away from that fanfiction for long. And in moments she was clicking on the link.

It had a slow start....but apparently whoever wrote this particular piece had deluded themselves into believing David would be the sort to be so.....primal. And the deeper she delved into the story, the more her head seemed to cant to the side, her expression becoming more strained from both confusion and disbelief. 

"No....." she murmured head resting on the palm of her hand as she leaned closer to her screen, getting to a paragraph that went on to describe David as some untamed stallion. "I don't think he even knows how that's done........" Poor guy. He was an athletic man, certainly. And she had no doubt that in regards to their intimate life, Snow was quite satisfied. But Ariel had a hunch that satisfaction was more due to her husband's passion than from his expertise.

Now, James, on the other hand, Ariel thought for a moment, lips ticking into a subtle smirk as she reflected on his experience and his proclivity for spicing things up behind closed doors. The fact that the writer thought David would share his twin's more adventurous tastes drew out a soft snort from Ariel. 

And had the story been about her and James and not her and David, she might have decided she needed a bit of alone time (or to call James. Preferably, she'd call James). But given it was David, she found herself grimacing once she'd gotten over how absurd the short story was. 

Her. And David. She shuddered. He didn't repulse her. But she'd never see him in that way. And the fact that she was with James made her feel even more ill at ease with the fact she'd been paired with his brother. Let's not forget he's a married man, she noted, lip curling into a disapproving tip. She closed the window, shaking her head as she moved from her seat. That was certainly the first and last time she'd ever deign to look into any more fanfiction.

She winced as she came to, the lights over her too harsh for her to open her eyes right away. She was groggy, as if she'd fallen asleep for too long, and as she began shifting, she realized she felt stiff, too. When her eyes finally opened, they fell on a man sitting across from her, her vision too unfocused from exhaustion to notice anything more than his stature, his hair color, and the way he dressed. 

Ariel didn't try to sit up at first, eyes moving from the man to the rest of the room. There was an unfamiliar stench hovering over her - cold and sterile, not at all welcoming. And the hushed murmurs outside her room left her even more uneasy. And the more alert she became, the more she realized she had no idea where she was. Or who the man was. Or who she was. 

Wriggling so that she could sit up, she glanced over to him once more, lips pressing into a nervous line. "Um...." she began, a little unsure what to say or what to ask. She gave a dry swallow, realizing now she was thirsty. She rubbed her eyes, trying to ebb away the last dregs of exhaustion before fingers raked her hair out of her face. "Could I please have some water?"

In a universe where everyone is born with numbers on their wrists counting down to when they'll meet their soulmate, send me 00:00:00 for my muses reaction to their numbers hitting zero when they meet yours.

Humans should rethink how they travel by sea, Ariel thought to herself arms beginning to feel sore from dragging her charge to shore. She'd seen much more ships along the sea bed than she had above water, clearly these ships weren't all that reliable. And has she not happened upon the ship and its passengers, the man in her arms might have found himself among the dead at sea.

She kept pulling him towards the island, careful to keep his head above water in spite of the fact she'd used magic to keep him safe. There were so many others who'd perished in the storm the night before. Aside from what the numbers scrawled on her wrist guiding her actions, he also seemed the one with the best chance to survive the night. And she'd hate to find her efforts - including the use of her magic were in vain. 

Reaching shallow enough waters, she felt her body shift, and on clumsy, fresh legs, did her best to drag the human to shore, stopping once he was far enough on shore the lapping waves wouldn't pull him back, letting him rest once she was sure he was breathing before taking a bit of respite herself, her arms worn from the journey. And once she felt in a better state, she rose to her feet, padding delicately to one of the small caves near them. This wasn't the first time she'd been on this island. On the few occasions she dared to sneak out of her home and inspect what she could of the world denied to her under her father's rule, this was one of her stops.

It was a tiny island, not too far from the a small clump of larger bodies of land a short swim away, that she'd considered a playground of sorts. With so few human visitors, she could play human, and had even stored provisions for the occasions she did find herself with unexpected guests. Picking out a small robe she'd procured from an old shipwreck, she dressed, and returned again to wait by his side.

Staying quiet, Ariel rocked on her seat, arms around her legs as she tried to remain patient. She knew better than to wake him, in spite of the tingle of excitement she now felt every time she looked at her wrist. She worried at her lip for a moment before she reached over him, turning hist wrist to get a view of his numbers. They were still ticking, and were nearing zero. Which meant he'd soon wake up to meet her. 

Ariel wondered then, what her father would think. And her sisters. And the rest of her people. She was certain that there had been no mention in their history of a mer and a human being soulmates before. And contact with the human world was expressly forbidden. Certainly, her father couldn't chastise her for rescuing her soulmate, she assured herself. Soulmates were those meant to find true love, and given it was one of the most valued sources of magic, one of the most revered, surely 

She looked him over once more, eyes falling on the satchel at his belt. Well, if it was going to be a while, she might as well do something to keep herself occupied, she reasoned, her curiosity guiding her decisions once more. She removed the small pouch, opening the flap so that she could inspect its contents. There was nothing in particular that stood out to her yet. Gold coins, a few bits of silver, but the glint on his finger caught her attention. And she turned his hand over, fingers tracing over the ring on his finger as she took in the detail. She'd seen rings like the one he wore, with different symbols. 

As she ran a finger over the ring's engraving once more, she felt his fingers curl around her palm, and in her surprise dropped his hand. Ariel's gaze then quickly flickered to his other wrist, a short breath drawing in once she'd realized how much time had passed, and in seconds, her eyes swept up to meet his gaze just as he began to open his eyes.

"...king." Ariel said, repeating what one of the men had said. She swallowed nervously, feeling almost as stunned as her husband over the news. George had been sick for some time, but they'd been taken by surprise by his death just the same. "It means you're the king." 

The silence that pierced the room caused Ariel to tear her gaze from James for a moment, sweeping over the healers and the rest of the staff. "If you'll give us a moment, I need to speak with him alone." she ordered, knowing James would need them out of his sight for the moment.

"Emma? Emma's great. I adore my little duckling." She grinned. 

 "She's such a sweet, smart little guppy and she's starting school next week and she's so excited about making new friends." She paused, her grin slowly sinking into a slight purse.

She'd been so used to taking care of her, bringing her along to the small theater she'd worked at, where her cast mates seemed to adore her and James' niece. Now she wouldn't be bringing her to work anymore. And while it meant less for her to carry to work, it also meant she wouldn't be spending as much time with Emma as she was used to. "I'm almost tempted to ask James to consider homeschooling." she admitted, not quite yet ready to deal with an empty nest.
