          "Because,” he positively chirps, rocking on his heels at the sudden redirection of his attention.  Not that that concerns him much -----  oh, no.  Rather, there’s someone he can share the excitement with now, someone he can buzz to, someone he can subject to a video ( even among the event bustle around them ).                                      But there’s time here, now, and he’s unsure when the chance would                                      arise again so soon.

          “A friend of mine sent me a clip, and now that I think about it, you need to see it, too!”  Though a thumb’s already pulling the player bar back toward the beginning before any affirmation or denial can be voiced ; the screen’s already tilted toward the other.  The audio may be muffled by ambient noise, sure, but that’s hardly significant.  “It’s really cute, and you won’t regret it.  Are you ready?”

          “Do you have the time?”  It’s a simple enough question, and he’s grown familiar enough with its shape that it almost feels natural to him ; nonetheless there’s little choice, what with his phone an expensive brick in his pocket, and time ticking tauntingly at his small missed turn earlier ( and he’d corrected it quickly, much to the sacrifice of precious minutes ).  “I’d check it myself, but my battery is unfortunately dead.  Guess I should have charged it again before I left, but I thought I’d be fine.                                                                                  Guess I was wrong, huh?”

she’s not surprised that the word had gotten out after the spring inter high — she knew the boys tended to talk about her sometimes, & hinata would have probably mentioned their brief confrontation with the jouzenji players unconsciously. it’s no secret to her team : she attracts attention from unwanted eyes, without trying. even at the new year’s festival, sawamura & azumane had given GLARES to a couple of older college students watching her ; & when they weren’t there, tanaka & nishinoya were INTENSE enough self - deemed “ protectors ”.

her hands clasp in her lap a bit tighter when she remembers. nothing bad has happened yet, & she feels strongly that she can evade a situation where she’s approached. but she’s still relieved, even calmed, that they make an effort for her when they don’t need to.

kiyoko nods to him — an acknowledgement of the offer — but puts a hand on his shoulder to stop him from standing up with her. ‘ ano, azumane … it might be weird for you to walk me to the restroom … ’

          Energy’s abound around him ; it seeps in, a high he knows too well from competitions his own, and intensified in the glee and pride from a match so hard won ( the basics of professional volleyball’s only just become demystified, and still he tries so much to follow where the game may lead —  its intricacies still just beyond reach ).  The cries and cheers were contagious nonetheless, and they hum still in his being, from fingertips that tap out a message to toe tips that guide him.

          Where?  Where?  The question’s loudest.  There’s not near as many people as there was was as the game had ended, the crowd in the halls thinning more and more, and he’s hardly inconspicuous ( knows they both are ).  There.

          The steps are nimble and quick as he weaves toward a familiar figure, easy to pick out from his height, and the hum vibrating more the nearer he approaches ( and, if in his pride and glee, he nigh launches himself and captures the other, so be it ).                            “You did it!”  The words’ echo is eaten by the crowd, but there’s hardly a                              care ; this is much more pressing, much more requiring every modicum                              of his attention.  “I have some questions I will ask you later because I                              need you to clarify what actually happened in a few spots, but you won!”

          “Understandable!” he praises, only well too aware how his own tongue’s been trying to wrap around Japanese and to varying degrees of success ( English has been safer with those he’s commonly with, though that’s much more frequent than Asahi and Russian ).  But he’s proud, a grin highlighting and underscoring and emblazoning that.  A buzz thrumming through him like electricity.                                           “So you’ve been practicing this, then?  I can’t say I’m not excited                                             ---  because I am ---  but for how long?”

STAR-FISHED  on  a  patch  of  grass  in  the  courtyard,  he  waits  ever-so  patiently  for  asahi  to  be  finished  in  the  club  room  and  come  join  him.  whether  the  ace  is  aware  of  the  fact  that  he  is  supposed  to  be  meeting  him  here  is  up  for  interpretation.  their  plans  may  have  been  more  noya  purposefully  and  knowingly  putting  himself  in  asahi’s  usual  path  and  admittedly  less  a  mutual  agreement  to  hang  out.

he  is  mid-limb-swipe  in  the  process  of  making  a  grass-angel  at  the  first  sign  of  him,  and  as  such  immediately  sits  to  attention,  waving  both  arms  over  head  instead.  as  if  he  feared  this  were  not  enough  to  grab  the  other’s  attention,  nishanoya  lets  out  a  crisp  shout  that  very  easily  carries  well-over  the  distance  between  them  and  with  it  an  unneeded  sense  of  urgency,  “  ASASHI !  ”
