“My mother was killed by a drug dealer” “Your mother killed herself” “She was a drug dealer!” I feel like lately I’m not in the mood for much, but Friends is always good.

It's within reach...
I go to Sacramento City College, which is a community college. I fell in love with Geography my first semester there and it is a subject that brings me indescribable joy. I never thought about being any sort of scientist when I was growing up, but now I find myself striving for it and longing for it more than anything else (save being a mom, which I am already (two boys)).
Sadly, I found out almost immediately (this was Fall 2011) that SCC didn't have an Associate's Degree program for Geography. I would need to transfer to state university without the AA.
In late Spring, my favorite professor and inspiration told me in hush-hush tones that they were working on a curriculum for an AA for Geography. He didn't know when it would be done, or if it would be approved.
Today was the first day of Fall semester. I paid my favorite professor a visit to ask about his summer in Europe and about the field studies class this semester that I might be driving for. I asked about the degree...
He told me that Spring 2014 will be the first semester students at SCC can graduate with an AA in Geography. As far as my mentor knows, I will be the first person to declare geography my major and graduate with an AA in geography. I need to add one class this semester (I have been told it will be almost remedial for me), and then make sure two classes I take spring semester fit the bill... but if I manage to pull all this off I will be the proud owner of an AA in Geography before I transfer to state university. I nearly jumped up and down inside his office while he and the other geography professor talked about how I'm their little geography prodigy.
I feel like it's within reach now, and I'm just thrilled to fucking pieces.
I grew up wanting to be a singer, a writer, a dancer, a librarian, an obstetrician, a forensic psychologist, a marine biologist, a labor nurse, and lord knows how many more things...
I'm going to be a geographer, where I love every single bit of work I do. I love every scrap of homework, every essay, every research paper, every project... I love love love love what I do.
I can't wait to spend the rest of my life doing it, and that starts now.
