I think Hemnitz may have suffered from misanthropy hating not only the citizens of the Great State but also his fellow South Boreans. His long observation of events had an impact on his attitude even toward his own people. For Hemnitz South Borea was merely a means to an end not something for which he felt any genuine affection.
