George was the elder son of Victoria of Hesse and Louis of Battenberg, making him a first cousin of OTMAA. Nadejda was the daughter of Grand Duke Mikhail Mikahilovich and his morganactic wife, Sophie. She was a first cousin of Irina and her brothers, as well as Nina and Xenia Georgievna.
