eep okay here are the first two paragraphs of george nott's app! i'm going to try to get some of lily's done today as well.
George Nott is a difficult chap to get a read on. Gifted with astonishing powers of perception, handed down from both his parents, George has been able to read the personalities and feelings of those around him from a very young age, and learnt fast to adapt himself and his personality to best suit those he was spending time with. This was clear even as a child - he learned quickly to be mature and contained with his parents, always acting in the most responsible manner he could muster around them and carrying himself proudly and with an easy surety. But even between his parents his personality differed - with his father he has ever been distant, respectful, and most often taciturn. It didn't take him long, as his three sisters arrived one by one, to pick up on how quickly Theo sought to spend time with them and love them with an open, easy-to-read affection - and how little he sought to do the same with his only son. George returned this distance in kind as soon as he was old enough to notice it. With his mother, however, George is a much sunnier personality. He is still mature and collected, always level-headed, but he is more open, easier-going around Tracey. He has been lucky with his mother, he truly has. He enjoys a gentle closeness with her, and still at 24 will take his problems to her and spend time with her as happily as he spends time with his friends.
With his sisters it was trickier. George always loved them, as he felt any brother ought, but he felt removed from them by dint of the close relationship they had with Theo, and struggled not to resent what he saw as favouritism towards them. Sometimes he succeeded, but just as often he did not. Again, though, he adapted himself to each of them - he lost the seriousness he displayed around his parents, could goof off and play silly, childish games as often as they wanted and be as daft as even Lydia if the situation called for it. It was almost remarkable, the way he could switch himself from answering a question from his father with the utmost thought and gravity, and then five minutes later be up to his knees in mud at the bottom of the garden, laughing his young head off.
okay! george nott my other little next gen baby
the oldest nott and only son and has always always picked up on the fact that his father seems to have so much less time/affection for him than he does for his sisters (tries not to resent them for it. succeeds about 55% of the time)
is a total mummy's boy as a result like he doesn't depend on her for cleaning and cooking or whatever but he will so contentedly take his problems to her and hang out with her as cheerfully as he'd hang out with friends
both his parents have an uncanny talent for reading people and george has really picked up on it; plus he combines it with his father's ability to present a public face that's very different from his private one - only george takes it a step further. practically intuitively (definitely not with malicious intent) he picks up on people's feelings/personalities v quickly and presents himself as whatever he thinks will make them most comfortable/make them like him most
he's been doing this so long (even with his own family) that even he's not sure what his truest self is anymore. he feels like it might be the more pensive, calm, soulful side -- but then he's got his father's snappish wit and feels so at ease laughing along in a big group, is it really?
definitely a major hatstall - he exhibits facets of every house. he has the hufflepuff's friendliness, natural kindness and desire to put other people at their ease; but he lacks their tenacity and persistence and deep loyalty to each other - he's definitely at heart somebody who prefers his own company as he never feels fully at ease around others. he always feels he has to be hiding some part of himself and putting his best face on. he has the gryffindor's chivalry and urge to protect those weaker than himself, and their penchant for stupid acts that seemed like a hilarious/brilliant idea at the time and turned out to.... not be. but his chivalry is inconsistent and he does the right thing plenty but also does the wrong thing out of petty desire for vengeance or because he's just not in the mood for goodness. has the ravenclaw's lively mind and quick wit and on the occasions he is utterly alone and lets himself drift he has such a deep inner world, a really interesting and thoughtful soul - but he hasn't got their raging curiosity for the world; all his curiosity is focused on people and what makes them tick when he's curious at all. and then slytherin - his talent for presenting different georges to different people would put him there, though there is no malicious intent behind it, simply a lifetime of seeking the approval from others that he cannot get from his father. also his secret distance from those around him - he gets on well in a crowd and is the sort of guy who can talk to you like you've been friends for months rather than minutes, but it isn't until you really stop to think that you realise you don't know him at all.
genuinely gets the hat a little stuck for a while; probably ends up in slytherin because of his blood and his parents and his ability to slip into diverse presentations.
when he's quiet he comes off as v emotionally detached and actively seeks to propagate this image. with external things he can detach himself easily, he pays little attention to major social issues (or those that don't touch him) and probably couldn't name a single charity if you asked him. but when something is directly in front of him - or happening to him - then he feels it very keenly. on the sly he's mopped up plenty of homesick first years and tells them not to tell anyone but dries their tears and helps them with their homework if they're struggling and pretends to be v aloof and whatnot in the common room but drops them a wink when nobody else is looking to reassure them that they're not alone. and although he brushes off insults and the like easily from strangers if those who know him best are ever disappointed in/angry with him it cuts him very intently
kind of projects that protectiveness as he never felt comfortable being big brotherly with his sisters - with his father being very loving and attentive to them, george kind of felt redundant a lot of the time and detached himself from them. would die on a battlefield for them obviously but doesn't concern himself with their affairs unless they specifically ask him to.
i can't decide what job he does probably something very generic and sociable that he doesn't really care about but pays the rent
so yeah. george nott. always calm and collected and mature and responsible around his father, trying so hard to be the son he thinks theo wants but all the while so so desperate to understand what it is he does that disappoints him. he must disappoint him, or surely theo would be as affectionate with him as he is with his sisters?
