Y&R: Phyllis & Avery Storyline (what i wished happened)
So I pretty much wrote alot of this out in increments on twitter but thought i'd share what I thought about the Phyllis story w/Avery & their father George that lasted about a half a second before they went back into this Daisy crap that I wish lasted a half a second. LOL...
First off, this backstory w/her dad is so lame. they should've made what George did more appalling. Everyone knows I FLOVE Phyllis but for her to be so mad w/her dad for embezzling given the way she came to the show just doesn't make sense.
Like I said, I love Phyllis but seriously this is a woman who became obsessed w/a rock star & then slept w/him when he was married, then lied about Daniel's paternity & switched test results. Phyllis did all types of stuff to Cricket, which personally I thoroughly enjoyed, & then hit Paul w/a car but embezzlement is the issue that appalls her. Really??? They should have made what George did to her much darker, more like the Claudia thing they had going on a GH recently w/Johnny, made him pimp her out. George could've been embezzling money & then owned some to loan sharks & offer his daughter as a deal, & maybe this wouldn't have been the first time he'd done this to Phyllis; the first time having resulted in a thirteen year old Phyllis becoming pregnant. Avery would've been too young for him to use & wouldn't know anything about why Phyllis turned on her family.
It could've explained some of Phyllis' issues, why she latched on to Danny so fiercely because she'd created a reality she could handle after growing up in the kind of reality a kid should never have to. Maybe Danny's music soothed her as a kid, helped her to go outside of her mind & forget if even for a few songs what had happened to her. And truly I like Jessica Collins as an actress alot but IMO Avery should've been a younger actress, my pick would've been Melissa Claire Egan to played her & then Jessica Collins could have been given the role of Chelsea. If they did it that way Avery could have been a child born to Phyllis as a pre-teen.
After George's shady deeds came to light & Phyllis cooperated with the police, no longer willing to tow her father's dysfunctional line, her mother could have thrown her out, claiming Avery as hers since she would've been raised like that from the beginning. And FYI, my wishful casting list for George & Lydia Summers would've been Jed Allan & Eileen Fulton. Sorry but during George's death scenes i felt like Michelle Stafford was doing all the work, & then Jessica Collins came in to assist but Ken Howard wasn't cutting it all all. It was like he was just lying there, giving off no emotion what so ever: remorse, annoyed, complacent.... nothing. Just, lying there.
Anyways, back to my scenario; when Phyllis gave birth Avery's parents would have been listed as George & Lydia, giving Phyllis no rights. As an ignorant teen Phyllis wouldn't know what to do, tossed away from her family & separated from the daughter who'd grown up as her little sister. When Avery came to town, as MCE, she would have came for the same reason in defending Sharon & then confronting Phyllis for up & leaving the family when she was barley five years old. Phyllis would be pushing her away in the beginning as she did JC's Avery, partly to protect Avery from the truth & partly to protect herself. As it was revealed that Avery (who in my world is MCE) was Phyllis' daughter we'd have a better understanding of why she fought for Lucy so fiercely. We'd know why she thought Daniel would regret it because she herself had given up a child when she was a kid herself & regretted it. Michelle Stafford & Melissa Claire Egan would've rocked those scenes & that story line!
Then both Avery & Phyllis would confront the dad who'd wronged them both, he on his deathbed at this point. There would also be confrontation scenes w/Lydia between her & Phyllis & her & Avery. Avery though softer towards Phyllis would still have some deep-seeded anger at her for abandoning her even though she was a kid, the knowledge of her family's secrets sending her into emotional turmoil though she'd try to remain stoic on the outside.
That should have been when the Nick factor came in, as during all the reveals of Phyllis' tortured childhood she & Nick would have reconnected & moved back in together, attempting to put their family back together. Daniel would also be reeling from what he'd learned about his mother, finding a way to come to terms with what he wanted to do about Lucy while getting to know a new sister. Meanwhile Avery seeing Phyllis' life better after the revels while she feels like hers was in disarray & feeling jealous that her mother is spending so much time reconnecting w/Nick when she feels it should be her could then attempt to seduce Nick in order to get back at her mother and remove Nick from Phyllis' life. Perhaps she'd even go so far as to drug Nick & then let Phyllis catch them in bed together, & then that would then create another big fall out.
That is how it should have went... I need to find a way to school MAB on how to write a soapy storyline worthy of the actors & the audience... I may actual expand on this idea later & write a fanfic to it but for now I leave you with the way the Phyllis/Avery s/l should have went.
