He was a very successful musician who performed for the elite during the 18th Century all throughout Europe, but mainly based in England. He even made a composition of music with Beethoven ( before they parted ways due to some altercation/argument over a woman). Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Violin Sonata. 

TIL that Beethoven actually dedicated this to a virtuoso named George Bridgetower (1778- 1860), but changed the dedication after the latter insulted a female friend of his. (They were, unsurprisingly, drinking when this occurred). 

Bridgetower had apparently performed this with Beethoven, who was impressed with his virtuosity. Apparently, Bridgetower slightly amended part of the composition whilst performing, which delighted Beethoven. He also received a tuning fork as a gift of appreciation. 

Bridgetower was of West Indian and Polish heritage, hence the originally the tongue-in-cheek dedication: “Sonata per un mulaticco lunatico”. 

Not the first time Beethoven changed a dedication in rage. Most will recall Beethoven changing the dedication of “Eroica” after Napoleon declared himself Emperor.
