To most of us, this is the garment that instantly connects us to our moms and grand-moms. And to most of us, the favorite saree fabrics are the ones they draped in for years for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, KarwaChauth, and a whole array of festivals. Talk of traditional Indian ethnic wear and lehenga has no alter ego. A girl’s love affair with her lehenga knows no bounds and definitions. Lehenga has seen it all. Our earliest lehengas until at least half a century, were quintessential intense reds, that gave way to green and pink, blues and purples in the mid-’90s. Light colors were still not preferred; whites and blacks were taboo. Times unfolded, and as people kindled their adventurous sides the rest of the colors and even multi-colored lehengas got to see the sun. However, the Band-Baja-Barat scene has pepped up off-late - thanks to the last few years - and we are seeing a lot of pastel colors on the wedding aisles.
