I'm so sorry that XIII was your first FF game...
I tried so hard to like that game too >.<; I heard, that the game gets better at the point, where you get to the open, free roam area.
BUT THE HALLWAYS NEVER SEEMED TO END
The story was confusing as shit too. They never properly explain anything and they expect you to learn every term in a second. Like, I'm about 4 hours into the game, but what the fuck is a Fal-cie?! (Oh wait, they do explain the terms. But they're hidden inside the menus and they're just big bunches of text, that they expect you to read) I had no idea what was going on half the time and it just became a chore
One good thing I'll give the game: some of the visuals looked really cool. Like, one of the only reasons why I bothered to play it to the point, that I did, was because I wanted to see more of the summons. They looked really cool! But it takes so long to unlock them :|
The battle system wasn't.. terrible, but it needed a lot of improvement. I was kinda dissapointed, that it wasn't actually turn based, since that's one of the things, that I thought of when I thought of Final Fantasy, for whatever reason.
I meant to try and finish it, so I could try FF XIII-2 to see if it was any bit better, but I just couldn't make myself do it. It was too much of a chore.
I will give the FF series a second try with XV, but only after hearing what people think of it, so I don't make a similar mistake.
