The first record to be mentioned here is the forthcoming Georgi Barrel EP on Big Bait Records. Big Bait emerged to one of my favorite recordlabels since the first Citizen Funk Release by label regular Peter Clamat and Uncanny Valley citizen Scherbe. Since then most of the Big Bait Ep’s managed to be astonishingly precise in hitting my weak spot for Lower-Tempo House, with that Hip-Hop schooled knowledge of how to get your head nodding not leaving you any chance not to. Whereas the earlier Releases such as the Citizen Funk EP mentioned before, the hilarious “DJ Killed 90 People” or Glenn Astros hit EP “Lee Webster” had a more electronic sounding approach, targeting a mdma embracing crowd dancing on a warm but sparsely enlightened open air (ok or club but you get the picture) dancfloor, the label recently put his focus on the jazzier side of its House repertoire, while the pieces are still being held together by a certain Big Bait trademark-groove-playfullness. This is where Georgi Barrel Drops in, delivering another highlight to the labels discography. Containing seven titles the EP brings you a soul drenched 115 bpm stomper with heavy wooden kickdrums that will make you feel as if you were the coolest cat in town even if you’re not. Then there is another slow more Disco kind of track with warm and intriguing melodies painting a scenery from a mysterious but pleasant place in the depths of a jungle (or maybe the depths of your personal greenhouse?)(”In the Wutz”) Then there is a more uptempo (still slow) full-blood Discoedit (”140g”) that i do not really feel so I will skip this. And overall there are Shitloads of ‘dope-as-fuck’ Hip-Hop instrumentals ranging from “Pantoffelheld” music to “coolest cat in town” soundtrack. And yeah did you wreckognize? The Name of the EP completes Chocky’s previous on Big Bait: “Sativa” EP. Somehow this EP makes me feel tricked but pleasured, thanks for that!

Still recovering from the Easter weekend? Then fear not as we’ve got the perfect antidote for your post bank holiday blues with a fresh podcast straight from the German underground from Kassel based DJ & Producer Georgi Barrel. Whilst it was Hip-Hop that introduced Georgi to production in 2008 it’s his love for House & Techno, which has thrust him into the spotlight for both his skills in the DJ booth and production studio. A self confessed vinyl junky and resident at Kassels underground main stage: A.R.M his ability to produce groovy underground music across the spectrum of electronic whilst maintaining his own strong signature style is evidence of his position at the vanguard of Germany´s electronic music scene. With his sinnmusik* debut receiving support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Joyce Muniz, Shadow Child and many others we thought the time was right to invite Georgi Barrel to deliver one of his acclaimed mixes for us. Enjoy!
