something that I do actually think about often is that part in "a vigil on birds and glass" where gerard talks about the final mcr show and hearing a voice on stage that says something pivotal enough for them to know they have to walk away from the band for their health. i think about that against the the lyrics "you must fix your heart and you must build an altar where it swells"; the way they're initially buried in the instrumental melody and then crescendo into something you can't ignore. they said "It didn’t have to yell- it whispered, and said to me briefly, plainly, and kindly- what it had to say." the firmness of the phrase "you must fix your heart" and the plain-ness of it against a discography wracked with metaphors and sprawling storyboards. you must fix your heart. they said "What it said is between me and the voice" almost ten years ago, but maybe just maybe they want us to hear what the voice had to say.
