“Shipload Of Coffee Nazi-Bound Is Seized,” Toronto Star. April 29 1941. Page 34. ----- Mystery Radio Message Brings Vessels to Vancouver ---- Vancouver, April 29 - A shipment of 1,500,000 pounds of coffee, said to be destined for Germany, has been seized by the Canadian government here.
The cargo of 11,000 bags of coffee left Cristobal, Canal Zone, and was to be trans-shipped at San Francisco for Germany via Japan and Russia, according to reports, but the freighter was radioed instructions at sea to proceed to Vancouver instead of to the California port. Origin of the wirelessed instructions, the ship’s registry and the date of seizure have not been disclosed.
