okay I personally just noticed something small but cute, it’s obvious but still. In this scene where Mylo’s admiring Gert, Powder’s face is priceless. She takes two glances behind her, and just look.
LOOK AT THAT KNOWING SMILE (a part of me thinks she’s trying so hard not to laugh LMAO) This girl KNOWS her brother so well she’s literally the first to notice how he’s in love. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the very first to notice he even HAD a crush on Gert in the first place (bc it’s probably a crush that’s been going on for a bit)
Powder’s like “oh this loser’s absolutely in love, gotta prepare myself to save him” which she does.
But besides that, this goes to show how close they are now compared to when they were kids. Powder’s openness to help Mylo, Mylo’s teasing (but also somewhat respect) by bowing at her, and just the fact that she can read him so easily shows how much they’ve grown as siblings. I feel like all three of them can know what the other’s thinking just by looking at them, that’s how close they all became.
(in which Mylo attempts to talk to Gert by himself, fully aware there’s a high chance he’d screw up. Yet Gert responded with kindness, and it just made him fall deeper in love)
(This is actually kind of silly and funny and maybe the slightest bit ooc ngl buuut the charm is there. Mylo is a dork, and I feel like Gert is an absolute sweetheart. These two are so underrated I swear)
(ALSO is this a safe space for my pan Gert & bi Mylo hc…heuheurhe THEYRE SO SILLY)
(THIS WAS THE ONLY PICTURE I COULD FIND OF THEM TOGETHER STOP💔🙁)
Mylo tapped his finger anxiously on the wooden table in the spot him and his siblings had claimed, trying his best to fight off the exhaustion in his eyes.
The Last Drop was opening in a minute or so, and not a single other person sat around him. Even when it did open, it would usually take a whole hour later for people to finally wake up and head there.
A part of him was thankful for that—Powder and Claggor wouldn’t be there so he’d be spared of their endless teasing. And it was nice to hear the bar be full of so much silence compared to the usual loud noise of people talking.
Regarldess, all his attention was still set on those front doors, waiting, unblinking.
“Mornin’, kiddo.” Vander’s voice rang from the counter, making Mylo jump. He hadn’t even heard him enter. “You’re up early.”
“Oh-! Uh, yeah, I…” He narrowed his eyes to think of an excuse, embarrassed by the fact they nearly closed from how tired he was. “…I’m waiting for someone.”
“Ah.” Vander leaned onto the counter, a knowing look on his face. “Is it that “Chemsisters” girl who-?”
“Hey hey hey hey!” Mylo rushed his word out through gritted to silence his dad, waving his hands out in front of him in denial. “Dont…say it out loud…!” He crossed his arms. “…Powder told you, didn’t she?”
“Maybe.”
“I’m gonna kill her.”
Vander shook his head with a chuckle, rolling his eyes. “Gert had some pretty nice music that night, didn’t she?”
“Yeah. It’s…honestly the best.” He felt his face grow warmer at the thought of it, a small smile creeping onto his lips. He vividly remembered watching her perform at the Innovators Competition. “She’s so good at that stuff, you know? And she always looks so cool, and her smile, and that look in her eyes, a-and she has this…this hair.” It was just gorgeous and it made his heart pound faster every time. He loved seeing her so alive. Loved seeing her shine.
“Sounds like you’re her biggest fan.” Vander teased, to which the boy rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah.” Mylo waved his hand dismissively before pausing, readjusting his posture to look directly at his dad. “…Vander, you’ve been in love before, right?”
“Hm. Dabbled in it.” He explained, organizing a few of the glasses in the cabinets.
“Does it feel like…like your chest is exploding? Like every positive thing in the world is in that person? Like y-you can’t get your mind off them, and…you know?” He huffed in defeat, leaning onto his seat.
“Pretty much.” Vander shrugged with a smile. “You’ll figure it out, kiddo. It’s a journey.”
“…Right. Figured as much,” Mylo replied anxiously, opening his mouth to speak until he heard the little ring of the bell above the front door, his attention instantly turning to it.
It was her.
Gert.
His heart instantly picked up, slowly turning back and looking down at his hands. “Gert! Mornin’ to you.” Vander exclaimed.
“Morning, boss.” Gods, just hearing her voice made him nervous. Yet he could listen to it all day. It was all so effortless, but it was just beautiful.
Even if he couldn’t see it, even if his eyes were glued to the table, he knew Vander was looking at him. “I need to get some things in the back. Would’a mind settin’ up the tables ‘til then?”
Mylo screamed internally.
“On it,” She pushed herself off the counter, and he heard Vander walk out the back door.
Mylo took a deep breath, adjusting himself mentally and physically, sweat dripping down his forehead. He stood up, not another thought clouding his mind besides the girl and five words.
“Do not mess this up. Do not mess this up. Do not mess this up. Do not mess this up. Do. Not. Mess. This. Up.”
“…Hey, Gert!” An awkward, dopey grin made itself onto his face, instantly gaining the girl’s attention as she set down her tray.
“Am I smiling too awkward ? I’m definitely smiling too awkward. Do I look like a creep or just an idiot? Which one’s worse? She noticed, didn’t she? Damn it.”
“Hey Mylo,” She ran a hand through her hair. “Nice to see you this early.”
“Oh, yeah! Yeah, totally, um…” He cleared his throat. “…So, what brings you here?”
Gert blinked in surprise, a snicker of confusion leaving her mouth. “I…work here?”
“GOOD GOING MYLO YOU LITERAL IDIOT WHAT KIND OF QUESTION WAS THAT OF COURSE SHE WORKS HERE WHAT ARE YOU DOING.”
Mylo snapped his fingers with a nervous laugh. “Right! Right, yeah, I knew that. I was just…testing you.”
They looked at each other in silence until Gert began to laugh, making his heart sink to his stomach. But it also fluttered from the beauty of the sound, and the way her lips adjusted with a smile. He could stare at it for hours, eyes sparkling with pure admiration for the girl.
Yet he knew it was over then. He screwed up, and-!
“Sorry, sorry,” Her laughing died down, a smile now on her face. “I’m not laughin’ at you. You’re just funny, Mylo.”
“Did. Did she just. Say I’m funny. Me. Mylo. Gert thinks I’m funny.”
His cheeks turned a bright red, stammering as his eyes darted anywhere except directly at her. “Me—I am? Oh, that’s, I mean, thanks!” He quickly regained his composure, clearing his throat. “I-I wanted to say that I really liked your show the other day. A-At the Innovators Competition. You’re really good at what you do.”
Her entire demeanor seemed to shift in seconds. “Really? Thanks, ‘Lo.” Gert gave him a small, comfortable smile. “If you want, you could come over someday to listen to a new song we’re working on. We’ve been looking for an outside perspective on it, anyways.”
“She wants to hear my opinion. She wants to see me later. Gert’s actually talking to me. Oh my gods.”
“Y-Yeah! I’d like that, yeah, anything for you…!” He gave her a flimsy attempt at finger-guns. “B-But uh…I was, well…just kinda wondering if, um…”
Her smile slowly dropped, face shifting with curiosity. Mylo shoved his hands into his pockets, trying to find the right words to say to her. For her. The right way to form his thoughts into intelligible sentences while also not coming off as too weird.
But he just couldn’t.
No words—at least coherent ones—could encapsulate what he felt for the girl. None that would impress her, anyways.
He felt stuck. As if his body was telling him there wasn’t any other way out of this except to respond in one way.
His tense muscles loosened in defeat, letting out a breath he’d unknowingly been holding. “…Okay, this isn’t working. I just—listen Gert, you’re like…the coolest person I know, and really pretty, and I get if you don’t wanna, but I-I was just…wonderin’ if maybe you’d wanna hang out more? Maybe?” Her eyes lit up with surprise, yet judgment wasn’t clear in them. “I-If you have the time, don’t force yourself! Not sayin’ you want to, I mean like force yourself, which I mean, if you do, don’t. But if you don’t, still don’t, but I guess…I-I mean, just if you want to, it would be really cool. To me. And maybe you, if you think so. It won’t be anything like, official, just getting to know each other if that’s cool with you? I-I know I sound-!”
Gert put a hand on his shoulder, instantly shutting him up. She had a knowing yet caring smile on her face, leaning in close to plant a small kiss on his cheek.
His heart leapt out of his chest, brain buffering at the small gesture. His eyes grew distant as his mind desperately attempted to processed what just happened.
“…I’d really like that, Mylo.” She chuckled softly, giving his shoulder a reassuring pat. “How about we get some lunch together at Jericho’s? See how things go?”
He blinked in surprise, trying to control the way his head was spinning with all these overwhelming emotions. “…Yeah.” A small, albeit shaky smile built up on his face.
She let out a hum of amusement before grabbing her gray once more. “You’re cute when you’re blurting stuff out like that. It’s charming. But it’s stupid-cute, you know?” Her teasing tone shifted with kindness. “…But at least you’re bein’ honest with me. Putting yourself out there—not a lot of people can do that. I really appreciate that. Seriously.”
His eyes sparkled with a sense of relief and vulnerability he hadn’t remembered feeling in a long time.
Everything he’d been constantly reminding himself of—his posture, his face, his tone, his attitude—seemed to fade, and he found that whatever remained, Gert seemed to like.
He didn’t hate it, either.
A small smile built itself onto his face, but not one he’d forced up before. It was genuine, and comfortable, and perfectly captured what he was feeling.
He didn’t know it was possible to fall deeper in love than he already was.
Everything about Gert was gorgeous. Hand-crafted by the Gods to make a perfect person. She was kind, and cool, and pretty, and fun, and understanding, and everything.
And someone so great like her managed to find some good in him.
Had this one in the drafts for a bit buuut presenting some Gertlo scenarios/hcs/yap bc they’re not talked about nearly enough and I love them (had to put the “keep reading” thing in an awkward place cus there is a lot of stuff here…also please tell me ur thoughts too I’d love to her them)
To start off I wanna say how I personally see Gertlo and why I love it. How I see it is two people helping the other live in the present. Gert helps Mylo’s struggles with his insecurities formed from his past to help him live in the present moment. Mylo helps Gert with her constant worries over her actions and the future to help her live in the present moment more carefree. Because clinging onto either past or future isn’t good—there needs to be balance for you to be able to enjoy what you’re experiencing at the moment, which is what they help each other with. They’re constantly there for each other in the present, and help each other truly live. But to go more in detail on the two individually, here’s some explanations:
I think Gert struggles with getting through the day sometimes. She’s doing music like she’s always dreamed of, but sometimes her jobs and life can get a bit repetitive and exhausting. She’s always working on something, because giving herself something to work towards gets her mind off that empty feeling that can creep into her heart. If she’s not working towards something, a part of her feels weak and incomplete. (In the MU, this is my reason as to why she joined the jinxers—she wanted something to fight for to keep her mind off of this overwhelming of insignificance) But…Mylo really helps. He always manages to make her laugh and takes some of the weight off her shoulders. Even when her day is going terribly, he somehow always manages to lift it with his smile and charm. She loves that about him. He makes her feel loved, and it was genuine.
Mylo still has some insecurities like he did when he was younger. Of course, he’s MUCH better now, but they do still somewhat exist, especially when it comes to relationships of any kind. He’s afraid to look weak or feel like he’s boring or useless, like he’s not really contributing anything. Especially with Vi’s death years ago, he’s pushed himself to try harder for the sake of those around him—but he still doesn’t feel as if it’s good enough. Honestly, he’s afraid of people not liking the real him. So he still acts confident in order to mask that, and still has some unhealthy habits from when he was younger. But Gert has really helped him with this. She’s patient, and kind, and understanding. She listens to the real him and helps him fully realizs he’s worth something as well. That his efforts are enough, because he has a good heart. That the past doesn’t have to haunt him, nor does he have to completely move on from it, but he can instead learn with it.
Building onto the last one, I have this scenario in my head where Powder’s talking to Gert, and she personally thanks Gert for what she’s doing to Mylo. She says that ever since they’ve really gotten to know each other, it’s the healthiest she’s ever seen him, and that it means a lot to her that her brother has someone special who cares for him.
Gert was one of the first people outside of his family he really allowed himself to grieve with during the anniversary of Vi’s death. He showed her his little memorial for her in his workspace, and opened himself up. She was really understanding and didn’t judge him for grieving. It was relieving in a way, and he appreciated that.
Anyways, no more hurt/comfort time for straight up adorable stuff!! On their first date, Mylo was panicking because he didn’t know what gift to get Gert. He wanted to show her his appreciation for her, and he wanted the gift to be cool, and he wanted to impress her—but he’s super indecisive. So he just sorta…gets one of everything (a piece of her favorite candy, a flower, a letter, etc). Turns out…she did the same.
Btw, to make it clear, both Mylo and Gert panic internally. But Mylo’s internal panic makes his mind go extremely loud like he’s screaming while Gert’s mind goes completely blank LMAO
Mylo actually kinda struggles with keeping himself active. He’s always so busy with work that he doesn’t really exercise as much as he should. But Gert is NOT accepting that and forces him to jog and exercise with her (he’s grateful that someone actively wants to take care of him and thinks about him)
In terms of blushing, Gert’s cheeks get a little red hue to them while Mylo’s face goes COMPLETELY red. She finds it super adorable.
When Gert introduced Mylo to the Chemsisters and told them he was her bf for the first time they were like “girl HIM?? OF ALL PEOPLE?” okay but in all seriousness they were actually pretty open and happy for her, they just gave Mylo extra attention to make sure he was a good fit for their bandmate haha
Whenever Gert actually wants someone to listen to her music for feedback, she usually goes to Mylo…which isn’t the smartest idea because he only ever compliments her work. He’s not even doing it because he’s afraid to hurt her feelings, he just genuinely adores her talent and thinks her music sounds incredible. She gets mad at him like “actually give me feedback dude I can take it” and he’s like “noo please believe me I’m being honest it’s already perfect you’re amazing”
Powder was DEFINITELY the first one to notice that Mylo liked Gert. She would constantly try to get him to admit it and he’d always deny it (even if he was super flustered at just the question itself) until one day he slipped up and she figured it out. (Claggor was the second to find out btw—he also figured it out on his own, but he’s definitely more subtle about the fact he knows and kinda keeps it to himself, occasionally teasing Mylo about it from time to time)
Bi Mylo and pan Gert ‼️‼️
Gert really enjoys spicy food while Mylo cant handle it, but he tries to force himself to like it when he’s around her (even if his mouth is dying) and she notices he’s suffering and is like “mylo omg it’s okay you don’t have to eat it”
At first Mylo was really timid when talking to Gert, but now he loves talking to her. He loves rambling about his work or whatever is on his mind, and she loves to listen. She finds it cute and admirable how passionate he is. He’s super open, and actually being himself when he’s talking to her instead of acting confident.
Whenever Gert is super tired after a long day of work, Mylo will do everything he can to ensure the end of her day is relaxing and to get some of the exhaustion off her mind. Makes her tea, puts on calm music, brings blankets, everything. Mylo is really good at showing care through his actions over words, after all. She’s super appreciative of it and loves that part of him.
Sometimes when Mylo falls asleep while working at his desk, Gert will bring a pillow to put under his head and a blanket because she wants him to be comfortable but is afraid to wake him up (plus he’s a heavy sleeper once he’s asleep he’s GONE until morning)
While their projects are very different (hybrids and music) they actually really admire and are interested in the other’s projects. Mylo adores listening to Gert’s music and hearing the process of making songs, and Gert finds it super inspiring he’s working on hybrids to help the air and also loves hearing him talk about it. In short they love hearing the other’s voice lmao
aaaand that’s all I can think of at the moment!! A part of me wants to add SO much more buuut I’ve just had this in the drafts for a bit and wanted to finally finish it because I love Gertlo so much. Yes it’s usually a background ship in 99% of fics and cute on a surface level, I see depth to their relationship. I see how they could help the other grow as people, and I wish others in the community saw that as well (I cant rlly blame them I mean they have 1 scene together and that scene is used to put attention on Powder and Gert, not Mylo BUT. still) Anywayyss thanks for reading this stupid lil yap heuhe ❤️
(In which Gert finds Mylo sitting alone the night before the anniversary of his sister’s death. And what came of it only strengthened their bond).
(how I feel feeding like the 5 gertlo fans bc IM OBSESSED WITH THEM. But on a more honest note, I think Gertlo has potential to have like actual depth to it. Yes it’s cute on a surface level ofc but I do think one really supports the other where their flaws would bring them down).
(I’ve seen a few fics showing how the siblings were affected after Vi’s death when they were still growing up, but have yet to see one about them actually grown up like we see in ep 7. Losing a loved one and the grief that comes with it never leaves, but the comfort and care of those around you can be a source of help).
(ANYWAYS ONTO THE ACTUAL FIC ENOUGH YAPPING)
Gert gently pushed the door open, the breeze of the outside night air hitting her face. It was refreshing after a long day of work, and for a moment, she forgot why she’d gone up there.
She quickly shook the thought off, eyes landing on the ledge of the rooftop where Mylo sat.
It wasn’t anything like she’d really seen before from him. His posture didn’t seem purposely relaxed, his hair wasn’t perfectly done like he’d normally have it.
A part of her didn’t know how exactly to feel about that.
“…Finally found you.” Gert found the courage to speak up, shoving her hands in her pockets as she walked towards him.
“Hey, Gert.” His voice sounded unnaturally quiet. Yet in a way, it felt like she was hearing him for the first time.
She sat beside him, legs dangling off the ledge, staring into the view of the Undercity and onwards to Piltover. He hadn’t even looked her way yet, so she decided to do so first.
And for once, she couldn’t read him. His face was blank, eyes not exactly distanced but not entirely focused—just completely neutral. “…Sorry, I kinda barged in. Want some time alone?”
“You’re good,” His eyes finally drifted to his hands. “Sorry, I just…guess I’m not feelin’ like myself right now. Kinda tired.”
“Yeah,” She swallowed anxiously, choosing her words carefully. “Tomorrow’s…”
“The anniversary of Vi’s passing. I know.” He grimaced.
“…Wish I could’ve met her. She sounded cool.”
Mylo snickered, reminiscing in the memory. “Understatement. Vi was the best. I mean, when she was with us, I felt like I could do anything, you know? Scary stuff wasn’t scary when she was around.” His smile grows shaky and uncertain. “…A part of me still cant believe she’s gone. I know it’s kinda stupid after so long. I mean, seven years, you know?”
“It’s not stupid.” She reassured him. “…I know you miss her. All your family does. And that doesn’t really…go away, right?”
He shrugs, remaining in the silence for a bit before lifting his head up. “Seven years.” He repeated to himself. “I can see the penthouse we robbed on that day. I stared at Topside for hours up here until my eyes learned that that,” He pointed out into the distance. “That tiny piece of roof hidden by other buildings is the one.”
She squinted, trying to make it out amongst the blur of the night, trying to look at the exact direction he pointed at. As she did so, Mylo continued, “It’s still so…there in my head. If I close my eyes, and I really think about it, I’m in that penthouse again. I can smell the debris around me, and the the way my body was frozen in pain, and the sound of Powder crying and the Enforcers running, the cold tiles under me when I fell over, just…everything. It’s still there.”
“Gosh...” She murmured weakly, unsure of what exactly to say.
“I just…it’s hard to get out of bed every time tomorrow comes, so I…” He hesitated, and Gert straightened herself to look at him. “…I spend the whole morning thinking of what I could’ve done differently to stop it. Stop her from leaving us so early. Like, maybe if I’d picked that stupid lock on the balcony faster, maybe we would’ve made it out before anything happened. If I’d helped her carry the stuff, maybe she would’ve made it to a point where she wouldn’t have died. If I…” He grimaced. “…If I hadn’t been as big of a jerk, maybe Powder wouldn’t have been so desperate to prove herself. Because we all were. And I still made her feel horrible for it.”
Gert’s expression twisted with complete shock. Her body went slack, heart aching with sympathy. This version of Mylo sitting beside her felt so different from the one she’d grown to love and know, yet in a way, she’s known this Mylo just as long. She just hadn’t been able to see him yet. But he’d always been there for her whenever she’d wanted to talk. The real him.
“…Mylo,” she finally had the courage to speak, taking in a deep breath. “I know she meant a lot to you. And I don’t want you to stop grieving her, thats not it. But…you can’t wrap yourself up into wanting to change the past. Because you literally can’t, and you’ll just feel worse.” She scooted closer to him. “I know I sure as hell did when I lost my folks for the first time. I was thinking the exact same way you are. But…I learned that instead of focusin’ on what could’ve been, we gotta focus on what can still be.” She forced a small smile onto her face for his sake. “…I think Vi would want that, don’t you?”
A small smile formed on his lips, yet his eyes were still hurt. “Probably.” He looked up at the sky. “It just…feels wrong to move on without her sometimes, you know? I wanted her to see who I am, who I became. Like, whenever somethin’ big happens in my life, I think “oh, I gotta tell Vi about this,” And then…I remember I can’t anymore.”
He tried to blink away the glossiness in his eyes, even as more tears welled in them. “…I know she’s proud of who you are, ‘Lo. You’re one of the best, funniest, kindest people I know.” Gert smiled softly, reaching for his hand so he couldn’t wipe away the emotions from his eyes. Their gazes locked then. “I know you’re hurting, and I don’t blame you. I know she meant a lot to you. But you don’t have to force yourself to move on without her, because she’s always gonna want to be with you. Always has been. But I promise you, her love for you guys hasn’t changed one bit, no matter what. Don’t forget that.”
He stared at her, the confident facade he’d put on days prior showing no signs of having even existed. “Yeah. Yeah, um…” He sniffled, voice hoarse and soft from pain, finally moving his hand so their fingers intertwined. “…Sorry, I don’t know why I’m so…”
“Don’t.” She interrupted him, and that was enough. Mylo leaned onto her shoulder, silent tears and faint sniffles leaving him as she quietly wrapped her arm around him, letting him pour his heart out onto her without another word.
Whatever words she could’ve said were conveyed just fine in the silence, only the breeze of the night passing through. The view in front of them comforting their vision, and if she focused hard enough, she could hear Mylo’s heartbeat from beside her.
After a few moments, the breeze grew slightly stronger. Mylo wiped away the remnants of tears from his cheeks. “…I remember this old story Vander used to tell us. That the air’s carrying the souls of all the people we lost.” He explained, voice no longer entirely coated with sorrow, now a new sense of contentment present within his tone. “And that whenever we feel the wind, that’s Janna’s way of bringing them right to us.”
Gert smiled, and the breeze brushing her hair suddenly felt much more vivid. “…That’s beautiful.”
“You’re beautiful.” She chuckled at his remark, her hold on his hand growing stronger.
“Alright, enough of you.” She weakly shoved him away, to which he laughed. The sound alone made some of the weight on her shoulders drift away.
Mylo wasn’t perfect, but he always managed to make going through her day easier. With his smile, and his jokes, and the way he’d somehow always manage to get a laugh out of her. Always managed to bring the best in her. Gave her hope for the next day, whatever came of it.
“…Thanks, Gert. For this.” He finally spoke up, reaching for her hand once more. She didn’t hesitate to take his. “You’re seriously the best.”
“Don’t mention it.” She smiled softly, and he returned it.
Their focus traced back into the distant night of Zaun and Piltover, letting the presence of the other bring some warmth and solace along with the breeze.
okay my first post from this account has to be a banger. fuck. here it goes
