'The name "SIWA" is a pun on the Japanese word for 'wrinkle' (shiwa) and traditional paper (washi), representing the unique characteristics added to the products as they are being used and also to reverse the common ideas on the material' Found these while browsing the Gestalten Space book store in berlin.

We proudly present our first workshop of the year with Commercial Type’s Christian Schwartz, one of the most prolific American type designers today. A founder of the award-winning studio Schwartzco, Schwartz specializes in customizing typefaces for corporate identities and publications. His celebrated fonts, including the popular Farnham, Neutraface, Bosch and Deutsche Bahn (both designed with Erik Spiekermann), have garnered him praise and awards, including the prestigious Prix Charles Peignot, D&AD, and German Design Award.
In this two-day hands-on workshop, participants will work on their own typeface in progress, and under the guidance of Christian Schwartz, evaluate the typeface and learn how to take it to completion. Limited Space Available: Register here.

John Stezaker—Resonating Nostalgic Lyricism
In an image-saturated world, British collage artist John Stezaker rather creates more with less. Cutting up yesterday photographs, subtracting pieces, and juxtaposing faces, he transforms forgotten photographs and postcards into symbolic portraiture of modernism. Stezaker’s artistic interests in examining hidden relations between images have bestowed international success and recognition upon him and his collage art. Gestalten.tv had a precious opportunity to speak with the artist at his exhibition in Berlin’s Capitain Petzel Gallery.
Featured in the exhibition The Age of Collage, his topical work is now on display at Gestalten Space in Berlin until January 12, 2014. The accompanying book of the same title also takes an insightful behind-the-scenes look at those working with this interdisciplinary and cross-media approach.

“The Age of Collage: A Group Exhibition of Contemporary Collage” just opened at Gestalten Space last night! Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an artistically stimulating evening. Arising out of cubism, the medium of collage has been used and expanded by Dadaists, futurists, surrealists, and pop artists over the last 100 years—and its evolution continues with unabated enthusiasm. In this exhibition, 31 artists reveal the boundless possibilities and diversity of this timeless yet timely artistic technique. These artists include: Ashkan Honarvar, Astrid Klein, Beni Bischof, Beth Hoeckel, Brandi Strickland, Charles Wilkin, Dennis Busch, Linder Sterling, Dominic McGill, Eva Eun-sil Han, Geoff J. Kim, James Gallagher, Jesse Draxler, John Stezaker, Jordan Clark, John Vincent Aranda, Jose Romussi, Julia Busch, Katrien de Blauwer, Kerstin Stephan, Leigh Wells, Liam Crockard, Luis Dourado, Matthieu Bourel, Max-o-matic, Nathaniel Whitcomb, Nils Karsten, Noa Giniger, Ruth van Beek, Sergei Sviatchenko, and Virginia Echeverria. RECAP VIDEO: The Ride Launch Party at Gestalten Space
Last Friday, The Ride: New Custom Motorcycles and Their Builders was launched at Gestalten Space in Berlin! It was a vrooming great evening filled with excitement, adrenaline, and laughter. Not only were we amazed by the coolest custom motorcycles by El Solitario, Ehinger Kraftrad, Wrenchmonkees, Kaffeemaschine, JvB-moto, and Herzbube displayed at Gestalten Space, but also by those exquisite ones parked outside in the backyard!
Here Gestalten.tv took the chance to meet with celebrated builders including Per Nielsen of Wrenchmonkees, Herzbube's Bernhard Elflein, and photographer Kristina Fender. If you missed the party, you can still visit the temporary garage show this week.

Clemens Behr The SPLITTER Truth
In his current exhibition SPLITTER at Gestalten Space, the young Berlin-based artist Clemens Behr creates site-specific works that are delightfully disorienting with their complex layers and improvised compositions. By laying with both construction and destruction, Behr raises questions about ephemerality and permanency, and in the same way, his installations facilitate a dialog between our perceptions in the second and third dimensions.
In this Gestalten.tv interview, the artist reflects on his visions in spatial design, his own visual vocabulary, and his free-spirited, performance-like design process. Don't miss SPLITTER at Gestalten Space, until August 4th.
