TDC Tokyo Exhibition
Selected artworks of the Tokyo TDC annual awards 2021 + 2022
The Center of Visual Arts Berlin would love to show the exhibition “Tokyo TDC in Berlin – Selected artworks of the Tokyo TDC annual awards 2021 + 2022”. With our exhibition we want to give the Tokyo TDC a platform here in Berlin as well as show the cultural contrast between the different artworks.
Our gallery is meant to be a space that supports cultural exchange and so we will be exhibiting works selected by the Tokyo TDC in the last two years, with some items unfortunately missing due to restrictions caused by Covid-19 and by the German customs. We look forward to seeing you there.

This month's Typostammtisch will showcase two amazing design studios!
Studio Pandan @studiopandan and Eps51 @eps51 share a building (on Möckernstraße) and a specialist area (typography). Founders Pia Christmann and Ann Richter (Studio Pandan), and founders Ben Wittner and Sascha Thoma (Eps51) will share insights into their work and their approach to typography.

Silvana Typeface Launch Event
Silvana typeface launch and exhibition opening!!! 💥🚀 2,5 years of introspective work has come to an end, and it’s time to celebrate the result in a more social manner!
The installation explores how a type specimen can be experienced spatially, in dialogue with its surrounding architecture, and is presented in collaboration with @paleworks who will support the installation with their Flow Modular, a Bauhaus inspired structure made of tubular steel.
Come to the iconic Buchstabenmuseum for drinks, food, tunes and a type design installation from 6pm on Thursday, September 15.
@typethursdayber are bringing their community too, so there will be lots of opportunities to meet and greet with fellow type enthusiasts while enjoying tunes provided by the finest fellow @theboysclubberlinboys @vikunia_illustration and @lotsofbroth .

Dinamo Talk at the new Mitte Apple Store
Johannes is giving a type design lecture and “first steps” workshop at the newly opened Apple store in Berlin. 🍏 Amongst other things, it’ll explore how to develop fonts using the Apple Pencil and iPad. Typographic Exhibition from Klaus Rähm
Currently on show is the exhibition titled "Textbilder: Aphorismen und Zitate" ("Text Pictures: Aphorisms and Quotations") at the Mark-Twain-Bibliothek. This is your chance to venture outside the ring and to see some wonderful typographic posters by a Berlin design legend.

Cooking Type at Type Thursday
Once again LIVE & IN PERSON, this will be an extra special Type Thursday! It won’t be the typical evening of listening, watching, and being inspired by awesome presenters… Nope. March’s event will involve drawing, chatting, drinking beer, and cooking up some fresh type!
First and foremost, it’s about Type Cooking. This is a fun & inspiring activity/tool that is guaranteed to yield interesting ideas and new directions for your fonts or lettering. We will show you the basic techniques and approaches to successful type cooking then we will proceed to drawing some awesome letters, and then we’ll discuss them at the end.
The evening will be MC’d by the amazing Ulrike Rausch! She will speak with us about writing, lettering, making fonts, and type cooking.
Also special for this event, the money from the tickets and drinks will be donated to Quarteera e.V. to help aid Ukrainian refugees. So the evening will not only be fun and inspiring, it’ll be for a good cause as well.
Last but not least, Mota Italic has produced some cool Type Cooker dice that will be available for sale at the event. They are normally €17 if you buy them online, but for this night only, they’ll be €20 – and all proceeds will also be going to charity.
Bring some paper, drawing tools, thirst, and some money :)

February's Type Thursday
This month, Type Thursday will be virtually traveling around the world looking at type design for the scripts: Hangeul (Minjoo Ham), Arabic (Pascal Zoghbi), and Devanagari (Kimya Gandhi). Plus there will be a Typecrit with Mayar Reda! ✨

Buchstabenmuseum Special Sale Extended till April!
Berlin's landmark Buchstabenmuseum carved out a massive shop from part of their space back in December. The shop/sale was meant to run through early January... This popup event has now been extended to April, 24th, 2022! It's yet another reason to visit the museum again. This is certainly the city's largest type shop with the most unique items from all over. It has about 100 sq meters of objects, books, jewelry, prints, and (of course) 3D letters from old signage. Check it out while you can!
Type Thursday is back online - in 2 days!
Thanks to covid, Type Thursday is back to being a virtual event again. It's not the same experience as in person, but it's still fun and actually nice to be able to have speaker and guests from anywhere!
This month features a presentation by Bastarda Type followed by a Type Quiz! There will be several prizes (every participant will get something), so you won't want to miss it!

Type in Motion: To reflect the diversity of the city of Berlin, HMKW students designed and animated the Letter B E R L I N according to different approaches and concepts during the project. The workshop at HMKW was led by Martin Lorenz of TwoPoints.netand Mario Gorniok of Keenly.

Typostammtisch #93 — It’s back!
The last Berlin Typostammtisch was at the end of February 2020 just before all social gatherings stopped for what felt like forever. Contrary to many other groups, conferences, & meetups, the Berlin TST decided to forego online meetings – preferring to wait the virus out till it was safe enough to meet again in person. Well, that time is finally now and it couldn’t come soon enough!
In just 2 days the whole Berlin type scene will meet up at Prater Biergarten. Beer, food, intellectual typographic philosophy, chit-chat, gossip, old & new friends... It’ll be a great time, you should come! Bring something typographic to show off – some new work, a book, an object, some news... anything you want to share!
And as an additional event bonus there will be another Type Walk hosted by Florian Hardwig and Fritz Grögel. It’ll be the 5th year they are doing this, and I’d love to recommend you taking part. Unfortunately, they have limited spaces, and they got reserved almost immediately.
