Gestalten.tv: Jonathan Corum—For Your Information
Jonathan Corum, the graphics editor for Science at the New York Times, designs print and interactive graphics with a decisive focus on clarity, simplicity, and elegance, translating detailed data into something widely understood. Last fall, we hosted a two-day workshop with this true master where we learned more about the understated fundamentals of information design. In this video, Corum explains how he integrates “art and annotation” to create a unified visual story and tell us how the NYT developed a serious comic to answer the question: “What is the Higgs?” For greater insight into Corum’s work, pick up a copy of A Life in Illustration, in which he is extensively profiled, as well as our books on information design including Data Flow 2, and Visual Storytelling.

New on Gestalten.tv: Linder Sterling—Dreams Come Glue
Inspired by the Dada movement and simply fed up with the society of North England in 1976, the Liverpool-born artist Linder Sterling—featured in the new Gestalten book The Age of Collage—is known as a true master of collage. For more than three decades, Linder Sterling has addressed identity, sexuality, fashion, and society through her stunning pieces of art, music, and performance without submitting to the Zeitgeist of any given era.
Gestalten.tv met Linder Sterling at her solo exhibition frau/objekt in Hanover to chronicle the blossoming of her collage art, talk about “spreading butter” on performance, and let her remind us of what a true glue means.

Clemens Behr The SPLITTER Truth
In his current exhibition SPLITTER at Gestalten Space, the young Berlin-based artist Clemens Behr creates site-specific works that are delightfully disorienting with their complex layers and improvised compositions. By laying with both construction and destruction, Behr raises questions about ephemerality and permanency, and in the same way, his installations facilitate a dialog between our perceptions in the second and third dimensions.
In this Gestalten.tv interview, the artist reflects on his visions in spatial design, his own visual vocabulary, and his free-spirited, performance-like design process. Don't miss SPLITTER at Gestalten Space, until August 4th.
