A raffia broom is shown in the picture. It is more popularly known in the Philippines as “walis tingting.” In order for it to become useful, a lot of strips of hardened raffia leaves must be bundled up together. Just a single or a few is not enough. If I were to relate this to anything discussed in our lectures, I’ll relate it to one of the schools of thought, the Gestalt School. In Gestalt, Psychology is the study of behavior of an organism as a whole. In other words, the whole thing is more important than the parts that make up the whole.
