the thing about nonbinary gender is that it posits that there are infinitely many genders “between” “man” and “woman.” However, by this same logic, nonbinary gender also supports the idea that there are infinitely many genders “beyond” “man” or “woman,” and we are still finding out what they are. This fucking rules.
This is my theory about the spectra of “visible genders” based on the “visible light spectrum.” Red is red, right? When is a “red color” no longer “red” and “necessarily” “a different color”? Well you could just use color picker and call it a day, but that wouldn’t really give you the whole answer. The Dress (white/gold vs blue/black) has demonstrated that lighting and context are just as important to perception as an object’s materials properties, if not more so. So the conditions where one is perceived affect how one is perceived just as much as who that person is. Location and context matter.
I never allowed myself to think trans thoughts when I was growing up bc I lived in Tennessee in a very Christian family and I knew it was “wrong,” and “didn’t apply to me,” and, “would only make my life worse.” I thought I wanted to live in Chicago bc it was hard being “a liberal” in the south, but I didn’t realize how like deeply fucking buried my gender was until I was allowed to think about it.
And anytime someone I knew or knew of came out (there was like one person I knew from middle school / summer camp who i later found out transitioned, and then like a couple other friends of friends thru like gossip), people said just the most straight up awful transphobic shit. Even the affirming things were transphobic. Like “oh yeah [she’s] banned from entering the state of Texas,” was a euphemism for someone transitioning that I heard in high school that queer kids used to talk about trans people without detection (my best present understanding, but like I could be like basing this off too few interactions). Using geographic restrictions to describe someone’s gender; context dependent.
if you never SEE a happy trans person you will never want to BE a happy trans person because you will not think that it is POSSIBLE! The reality is, it’s nobody’s fucking business what anyone’s gender is, and wanting to control other people’s bodies and experiences is fucked up.
everyone needs to get weirder and more gender and more fucked up NOW bc all the lights are off and no one can see that they can become something Else, someOne Else!
“light” is made up of all the colors of the visible and invisible light spectra. Humanity is made up of all the visible and invisible genders of the gender spectra. So erasing transgender people from society is like erasing color from the world.
We need infra-gender and ultra-genders; genders that go beyond the spectrum of visibility (I do not know what this means, but I do know we need it, or at least I do). I’m probably not the first to think or say this but like, I’m thinking and saying it now lol. Anyways I forgot what I was gonna say bc it got too close to something important but like, everyone get gayer right now!!!!!!
