Stridercest Week is almost here, and we’ve heard some folks are looking for prompts/suggestions based on the daily themes, so we thought we’d share a little bit about where those themes came from and a few ideas about where they might go. Feel free to suggest more in the notes!
In recognition and celebration of Homestuck’s 13th birthday, this year’s themes were chosen for their thematic resonance with the occasion and with the comic itself. They’re meant to be broad and open to interpretation, with multiple possible meanings both literal and figurative, concrete and abstract.
Day 1 (5/15) — Firsts — Introductions, beginnings, discoveries; new experiences and new developments; first dates, first kisses, first times. A good day to try something new!
Day 2 (5/16) — Gifts — Presents given and received, favors exchanged, offerings made, talents innate and acquired, bribes and blessings, skills and strengths, superpowers and sacrifices.
Day 3 (5/17) — Games — Console and computer and card games, roleplaying games and racing games, playground games and party games, gamblers and gladiators, arcades and arenas, contests and competitions of all kinds.
Day 4 (5/18) — FREE — Let your imagination run wild! Don’t know where to start? Consider sharing what you love about your favorite ships, AUs, and headcanons, or creating something inspired by a favorite fanwork!
Day 5 (5/19) — Bonds — Anchors and ancestry, connections and commitments, relationships and restraints; the ties that bind can be lifelines or chains, bringing people together or holding them back.
Day 6 (5/20) — Dreams — Literal or figurative, dreams can reflect or reveal our deepest dreads and desires, fears and fantasies, hopes and heartbreaks, wishes and woes, ambitions and anxieties.
Day 7 (5/21) — Traditions — Personal histories, public holidays, private in-jokes, repeated memes and recurring motifs: they just keep happening. A good day for revisiting favorite tropes!
