Mariana and Astaroth: Origins
Mariana had fell deeply in love with Grieves but she searched deeper and deeper within the tracks of the souls that were made from one another, searching, searching, hoping to find the very origin of where her love had been created. What she did not expect though was the monster that lay before her, an abomination that melded the elements with a mastery as it tore at the land, spirit and physically, it’s strength far more powerful than many of the gods she had met over the hundreds of years. All those who resided in this beasts dimension feared it’s power and referred to it as Astaroth, the god of Destruction. Mariana though, saw something else in the beast with her power to feel the soul. She saw within this maw of destruction held by this shadowy figure, was a hint of sadness so strong, it shined brightly to her like a crystal. So she left her current world and went to the time where Astaroth had been created.
Before her, a man lay on the ground, his body pierced and bloody, his eyes closed almost completely as he stood in the sky, his lips moving weakly as if he were saying something. Mariana wondered who the man was until suddenly he stood up, blood, and energy flowing into him as his torn body began to repair itself and the nature of the world began to bend weakly. Tornados began, hurricanes in the dry air began to sprout from nothing, balls of flame raining down from the heavens, pillars of rock slamming into the air, Mariana watching in awe as the man slowly formed a cloak around himself, his hair turning from a shade of blonde to fully black, his eyes now held in anger as his irises were demonically crimson. At that moment, Mariana felt herself fall in love for the second time as stood before her, a true figure of a man that made her quiver not in fear, but in respect. Soon the man turned and looked at her as destruction rained all around, killing the humans mercilessly and tearing the earth piece by piece, resetting it’s entirety. Soon, after the natural disasters slowly came to a stop, the man spoke, his voice many, powerful and endearing.
“Who are you?” Mariana shivered at the touch of his voice upon her, and she spoke over the destruction, her gentle voice, her soul, reaching toward this man with uncertainty and gentleness to take care of the wounds she had seen, ones that were inflicted far beyond comprehension.
“I am Mariana, the water goddess. I’ve come to heed your call.” For a single moment, the man’s eyes lit up and his face slowly curled to a smile then fell after a few seconds had passed, his eyes filling with a hatred that scalded her, the destruction coming to a stop as the land was now fully bare. Mariana raised her hand above her head and slowly, throughout the lands, gentle rains began to fall. The man spoke.
“I am Astaroth, the human who turned to god for the many forsaking me. You shall forsake me as well. Of that, I am certain.” His eyes looked to her accusingly but Marian took her steps forward with the small splashes of puddles that gathers, the earth recovering rapidly as plants began to spring to life. Soon she held him in her arms and caressed his back as she spoke into his ear with a gentle whisper.
“I will not forsake you, I will instead, love you for who you are.” Astaroth looked down, watching the life spring from the destruction and death he had wrought upon the world. He slowly blinked as he pulled himself away from her, his heart and soul unsure of the choices to make. He slowly began to step away from her.
“I cannot, not now. Not yet.” Mariana smiled though as Astaroth took off running into the rain, unafraid of losing him now that her heart had been planted into him. Soon she knew he would come back to her, and though still powerful and destructive, she knew she needed him. For without him, it was a simple reality that lay before her. She needed him.
He completed her.
