1. Favorite fic you wrote this year

I liked writing my sledgefu sick fic the most. It was in my wheelhouse since I like writing about anything even slightly medically related. And it was hurt/comfort which is so satisfying to write; the tastiest of tasty fic tropes.

12. Favorite character to write about this year

I enjoyed writing Din this year! It was fun trying to get into the head of a character who is still new to me.

13. Favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

I don’t listen to music while writing because writing takes all my brain power lol. But I like to listen to things while I’m brainstorming to help me find the ~vibes~ and I listened to a lot of 60s rock and soul music while working on the gender swap nurses au. I made one playlist for that, then got carried away and put together a playlist of my favorite songs from the 60s…soul kitchen ✌️

23. Fics you wanted to write but didn’t

I wanted to write more of the Snurgie ranch au but…help…I have writing ambitions outside my energy level and allotted free time.

FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project

Leonardo hasn’t let himself relax around Primo for years.

It’s habit, or something close enough, if breathing and eating and drinking can be habits too.

BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project

Primo goes to Rome with a stack of bills and buys all red everything: soft red leather that doesn’t creak when he moves in it, the fabric smooth enough to ripple like pondwater being gently disturbed by a pebble. All red everything and a gift for his aunt, a preemptive apology, one that he doesn’t owe her but he’ll give it nonetheless.

He’s thinking about Getty’s mother and the cowboy in all white in the snow, about himself the same colour as the sky, melting into it as he shot Berto and his idiot friend; now he’s red like a spillage, like a leak, sangue chiama sangue, blood will have blood. When he kills his uncle he will dress black as a shadow and let the darkness eat him up, but for now he’ll be a single splash of red amidst the muted beige of Rome. He’s allowed a little theatricality.

PROMPT — three sentences based on a prompt, set in the same time/setting as my current project

Primo’s eyes are green, or at least on the border between a sickly pale green, and grey like the colour a white shirt goes after it’s been washed too many times, his pupils dark little pinpricks, tiny bullet holes.

He’s thinking about Primo’s eyes to distract himself from Primo, still taut and tense and angry in the seat beside him, his knuckles peaked like snow-capped mountain ranges as he clutches the wheel. Primo’s eyes are brushed seaglass, Primo’s eyes are moonrock, Primo’s eyes are on him.

“Watch the road,” Leonardo says. Primo doesn’t reply.

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

not really! if i’m ever going to sit down and actually focus on writing i make sure to have something to listen to and i’m comfy. i don’t think i write enough to have a ritual.

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.

oof i feel so bad i can’t remember the last book that left an impression on me that wasn’t odd thomas by dean koontz (and that was in like 7th grade i gotta re-read it sometime) so honestly like. myself as cheesy as that sounds. i went through a period where i was very reserved with my writing bc i remember on tumblr back in the day it was very common to hear people say that descriptive writing or using lots of adjectives was excessive and annoying or that it took away from the story, so lots of my writings back then were very flat and kinda uninteresting. now that i’ve realized that’s absolute trash (thanks to reading great fic authors like yourself!!) i’ve let myself be Very descriptive and i love the outcome much more. anything in my ao3 bookmarks tbh!

15. Where does your inspiration come from?

everyday life, maybe? the destiel farm au is very much about things i’ve experienced because of my upbringing and where i live. i think i write a lot of hurt/comfort because i need to write something cathartic (aka jamie please go to therapy) but also because so many of these characters don’t get the comfort they deserve!! i want these people to be happy because their original writers don’t know how to do it!!

19. First line of a WIP you’re working on.

you’ve made me realize that i start my fics with very short and uninteresting statements lol so i used a filler description that i really like!

[[Sitting inside, gross and sweaty after working on the fence or smth. It's warm out. They're kinda hunched over and eating messily. They're taking a break, getting a late lunch and water, sitting at the dining room table. The sun shines through and highlights Cas' skin and eyes. The golden undertone of his skin is especially apparent in the light. Dean smiles softly n thinks how hadsome he is before-]]

Aaah, thanks for the ask, Alice! Sorry for not getting to this sooner, but question 48 gave me a weird sort of crisis that I had to get over before answering lol.

5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?

I literally had to check if I had any other multi-chaptered stories for this account other than “future runs through our bones” and I was surprised to discover that I don’t – until I remember that I can’t commit to anything in life and especially not fic. Hence, why there are many unfinished fanfics I’ve left behind in my 14 years of fandom participation… but I ain’t sharing those with anyone , so I’m going to say my misfits AU lol.

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

Oh, Snafu for sure. He’s a mouthy asshole, but he has layers that’s too fun to write. Burgie has definitely gotten up there too now though, being the good guy he is – and while we don’t get to know too much about him I’d still like to imagine he has layers too.

23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?

I think I prefer silence, because I don’t have the patience to compose a playlist for every writing mood. I can think of nothing more frustrating than writing a super-sad and angsty piece, and then it the song goes from Youth by Daughter to Hips don’t lie by Shakira (both bangers tho).

33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?

This sounds cheesy af, but I think for me personally, the biggest compliments I get is when people spend time composing comments on my fics that are like several hundred words long. It really warms my wee heart like nothing else to see that my silly nonsense could engage someone that much that they take time and work to point out all the small and big things they liked about the story! Anyone who takes the time, really – I appreciate you!

48) What’s your favourite trope to write?

I don’t know why, but this question totally threw me for a loop, Alice. It caused me an existential crisis because I don’t know what my favourite trope is and what kind of fanfic writer does that make me (and how can I then contribute to a shipweek if I don’t even know?). I mean, I love angst and whump, but that doesn’t really qualify as a trope does it??? Can “weird and slightly mental kid that gets adopted by also weird but slight more responsible kid, but then they fall in love and learn from each other and lots of gay angst ensues” be a trope? I am of course referring to both Snurgie and Sledgefu in that sentence.
