In central #Colorado there is a group of mountains known as the Collegiate Peaks with a group of 14,000 foot peaks named after eastern universities like Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Over the years I've attempted a number of them, and never made a summit. This photo is one from my attempt on Harvard. On this attempt, my group turned around not because of weather or any other factor, but because we had reached our set turn around time. With a large group of young adults in my charge, we needed to ensure that we would not expose the group to unfavorable elements. Additionally, in mountaineering, it is important to avoid "summit fever", and by turning around when we did, we hoped to instill this value in our charges, as well as teaching them that while the summit seems like the goal, it's really only the halfway point.
