While working his way down after standing on top of the mountains behind him, Teddy decided he should pause to take in his surroundings in the high country. It's a unique place to be, above the trees. He couldn't stay long, so every moment he had in the thin air had to be cherished.

it's so fascinating the stuff you think about as implicit knowledge. I grew up on a mountain in Colorado and I would never even think to explain what a 14er is. That's just like a thing people know here. Would not've occured to me that that's not intrinsic knowledge. But of course why would some not outdoorsy person from like the plains or the coast know what a 14er is? Colorado has fifty-three 14ers of course we all know what a 14er is here.
