I just found a new Harry Potter fanfic writer’s support forum. One of the neat threads they have going on is a ‘concrit free review exchange’ for writers to support one another without leaving critical or negative comments.  If you’ve got a story you want to get a bit of a boost for, this might be a great resource and community to participate in.

The Writer’s Anonymous forum on FFN has several review swap game going on and pride themselves on detailed feedback.  In general, that’s a good resource for feedback on your fanfic writing.

I have been told Absolute Write has critique forums and they are in general a good resource for writers.

@shayalonnie maintains a list of available beta readers.   You could contact people on that list and see if they are interested in doing a full editorial review of your work rather than just a proofread.

What I have found to be the best for me personally is to form a writer’s circle with friends where you swap work to look over.  Because you know each other you can be clear on what level of feedback you are looking for.

AND be sure to note ‘concrit welcome’ in your profile and in author’s notes of your story.

Can I just ask, does anyone have any advice on how to get more reviews on your fanfiction? I get that you dont need validation in your writing to be a good writer, but I have a hard time talking to people about things in chats or the like, reviews are just a really nice way to get some feedback and know some enjoys your writing. Likes, kudos and favs are nice, but it doesn't really tell me anything or make me feel like someone actually likes my work. I know kudos are easier to give than comments or reviews, but when one of my stories has over 50 kudos and 1 comment it's pretty disheartening, especially if it has over w thousand views.

I've tried to take what advice I can, I've been doing my best to write comments on. Every story I read, its hard sometimes, especially if it's on here and I'm on my phone, but I at least try to reblog it so other people will at least see it. I try to respond to comments, I haven't done that in the past but I'm trying to do that now. I am aware that certain fandoms/pairings are better at giving reviews or comments, especially if their heavy on shipping, but I dont just want validation for the hell of it I want feedback on the stories I write and want to write.

So if anyone has advice on how to get more reviews I would love to hear it. If maybe there's a special way to write a summary that draws people in more. Or if theres a way to organize your tags so people want to read your stuff, I'd be happy to listen.

Hey! I love your reviews! Are all of those erotica novels self-published? Are you?

Thank you, evie-a! Yes, the ones I’ve reviewed so far are all self-published, as am I. I may on occasion review published ones, but frankly I think the market has hilarious reviews on published romance and erotica well-covered. Even if you only visit @smartbitchesbooks main site you’ll see what I mean. I aspire to get reviewed by those guys one day while at the same time living in terror at the thought!

I also know, as an indie author, how damn hard it is to get ANYONE to review your books. I do also write nice reviews - check out my Book Reviews tag on my webpage - of people who can actually write, as well as writing guides.
