Honors Forum Week Three
Steve Pierce was the headline speaker for the forum on September 9, 2014. Pierce is a UNA Trustee with a history of actively pursuing every opportunity that is offered him. This trait, coupled with the early success of his political and administrative career, certifies him as a good source of advice on how “to get a job when you graduate” which Pierce noted as the chief goal of students who are enrolled in college.
Pierce commented prior to the discourse on life decisions His life and background to his current status should bring into perspective the gravitas of how decision-making can alter one’s life goals and end result.
The main them of Pierce’s life was the epitome of crossroad decisions being ultimately changed by his decision to go to UNA over Auburn, his decision to marry at a young age, and his decision to work for State Farm instead of working to be a Parks and Recreation Administrator.
Pierce inspired the many students of the Honors Forum to involve themselves in school and in their community, to study abroad, actively pursuing an international world view, and to commit themselves to efficient and precise communication skills. These, Pierce noted, were the job characteristics most looked for by many business owners in the current job market.
In conclusion Pierce stated getting a job in today’s community will take hard work, focus, and good communication. Which is in abundance at the flourishing school of UNA.
