Read an article yesterday about some wealthy women in Kenya injecting bleaching cream into their bodies in order to become "lightened from the inside". While in Cali, we stopped in Walmart for water, OFF bug repellant spray, etc and there was bleaching cream right next to the boxed perms. When I used to get my hair braided, bleaching cream would be sold in every braiding shop. Bleaching cream is found in Rite Aids in assumed "minority" communities. Bleaching creams are sold in beauty supply stores along with bleaching soaps. I also found it necessary to note how INEXPENSIVE the bleaching creams/products were. Using bleaching creams WILL NOT MAKE YOU THE "WHITE" PERSON YOU SO TRULY DESIRE TO BE. (Perms won't either). I hate what eurocentrism has done to our people over the course of history including and SURELY not limited to paper bag tests/ridiculous light skin v. dark skin "debates". I want to bellow a loud GET YOUR LIVES! Why reject having darker skin?? Why isn't it beautiful to you? Self love comes from WITHIN and if you're trying to find self love in bleaching creams and perms...
