But like, religious holidays in the GFFA?

like, Leia quietly celebrating Alderaanian holidays, hiding in her room for most of the day and then delivering an amazing speech to all the other survivors in the evening, because she is still their crown princess, and this is her duty, and the speech is recorded and send out into the whole galaxy

(and then crying herself to sleep, because the speech used to be her mother's thing, they used to write those speeches together and then Queen Breha would stand in front of those cameras and say the words and now that'll never happen again)

(everyone tries to support her, but they don't know Alderannian holidays, not really, and they never quite get it right, and it only makes Leia sadder, even as she appreciates the attempts)

Luke, the freeborn son of a slave, has always celebrated his holidays without outsiders. Sometimes he lets Leia and Han and the Rogues be part of a ritual without them even realizing, like he cooks a special dish and they don't understand the importance of it, and other times he just quietly prays in the evenings

Later, when Luke and Leia know they're twins, he starts including her in the holidays and explaining them to her. She in turn explains Alderannian holidays, and they end up celebrating them together

Han is included, too, after a while, and despite being someone who insists he is an atheist who doesn't understand spiritualism, he is very respectful of Luke and Leia's traditions

Han himself mostly uses Correllian holidays as a reason to drink some booze. He's been known to have long discussions with his fellow Correllian Wedge Antilles about when a certain holiday is to celebrated, given that Correllia has, like most worlds, a slightly different calender from galactical standard and therefore dates for holidays can't just be transcribed just like that

(this is also a problem with Tatooine, which, as outer rim world, has an even more different calendar, but Luke just keeps track of the days. Due to slightly different length in days and much time spend in space he is a bit off, but that doesn't really matter to him as much as the spirit of it does)

(it's also a problem for Alderaan, but Alderaan doesn't exist anymore, so the survivors just try their best. It's hard)

and like, there's so many different planets and so many different cultures

like, does everyone get a free day from their job when their culture has a public holiday? Because like, say, New Year, would fall on a different day for pretty much everyone

and that would mean that on every day there is a fraction of the rebels who have the day off. That doesn't seem functional

so I think that you can apply to have the day of when working intergalactical/among a culture that isn't yours, but it's probably not a given that you'll get it

and among the rebels it's probably just a given that emergencies always take precedence

but this is just so fascinating to me?

Like when you stay on your birth planet it probably doesn't matter

but the second you start working in space with lots of other people from other worlds it would really become a big thing?

Now I'm thinking about rumors in the GFFA, because like... there was a civil war going on. You better believe that PR was an important part of that.

Jyn Erso is either the hero of the people, or the ungrateful traitor who ruined everything. There is pretty much no middle ground for what people think of her

Chirrut is considered a wise old man by both sides, misled by one and guided by the Force by the the other, but nobody thinks he wasn't wise. Curiously, people tend to think he was older than he actually was, and also, they don't know he was a badass fighter

Baze is often only thought of as an addendum to Chirrut, which is really doing him a grave disservice because he’s incredibly badass and loyal and so many other good things,  but... anyway. The Imperials, (who are homophobic because of course they are) try to paint their relationship as brotherhood, or maybe servitude, but not even their own people actually believe that. In rebel circles, Baze and Chirrut are actually considered models of how a good romantic relationship should look like

Cassian is... difficult. The rebels try to make him look like a straight up hero, rather frantically trying to bury all evidence of the shadier things he did, because a straight up hero sells better than a guy who did questionable things for the right reason. The Empire in contrast publishes Cassians entire criminal record, even the highly classified parts, in the hopes of dirtying up his reputation enough that they can take the moral high ground. It works... not all that well, but well enough that the Alliance sticks to Jyn, Bodhi, Chirrut and Baze as the heroes and puts Cassian in the background a bit

Bodhi is one of the standout heroes in the public mind, which honestly surprises both the Empire and the Alliance. The fact that a simple transporter pilot saw something unjust and stood up against it, decided to do something even though he wasn't a soldier or a rebel or anything, that is huge in the minds of people all over the galaxy. The fact that he was a law abiding civilian who was considered completely normal before the whole mess only helps him, because that way, normal people everywhere can identify with him. That Alliance immediately puts him front and center in their hall of heroes, referencing him in their speeches as one of their bravest, and even though the Empire tries to make him look dirty and stupid, that one doesn't work, at all.

Krennic is blamed for the whole Death Star disaster when the Empire realizes that nobody actually buys the story of how Alderaan totally blew itself up. The fact that Krennic is dead makes him the perfect scapegoat, and even though the story of how he was secretly a rebel never truly sticks he works as a distraction for years.

(K2 isn‘t actually featured in rumors that often, because he is a droid, and people still only see droids as machines for the most part)
