I am also from a small, sharecropper town in the Deep South.
My great-grandmother, who I had the privilege of knowing for most of my life, was born in 1921. Would have been a fresh faced 10-year-old in October 1932. Maybe hanging out in front of a store. Maybe watching a man’s truck for a quarter.
I don’t know, man. This stuff is so real. We need to see more of it.
Spring semester starts for me today. Introduction to Media Production, one day a week (for two and a half hours). I get a little nervous about these hands-on/ production forward classes because I don’t have that much experience with recording and I also don’t want to embarrass myself around a group of 19 and 20-year-olds. But I also have to remember that it is a class…the whole purpose is for me to learn and no one is expecting me to be Stanley Kubrick in an introductory course.
Then the delusional part of me thinks I’ll be Barry Jenkins by May.
We’ll see how it goes!

“Scary” as in “afraid to”, not “someone to be afraid of”.

I've racked up tons of bookmarks and Pinterest boards these past few years. I love that sweet spot where passion and curiosity meet and I hope more people take advantage of that in their art.
