Experimenting a bit with my fav vagueposter ❤️
Also rarely see any drawings of him without some of his layers of clothing. He has a lot.
The thing about Robo-Ky in GG Strive being a womanizer is that he's not off-putting about it, for some reason. Yes, it's giving me cringe. But not the ick.
At best, he comes off like a closeted gay man trying so hard to be straight. At worst, his motivations to have a gf, fiancee, wife comes from some misbelief.
Guilty Gears Image description in alt text.
So... I had an interesting idea for if Guilty Gear got another crossover guest character. Almost exactly like Lucy Kushinada, this one is going to be most unexpected. Hear me out though... Rex Salazar from Generator Rex!
I feel like Generator Rex could be seen as comparable to Guilty Gear. Story set after some type of Apocalyptic event? Check. Humanity has mutated in relation to said Apocalyptic event? Check. A young protagonist is revealed to have abilities that can directly affect the mind and/or body of said mutated individuals? Check. There's probably a few more similarities that I can't remember off right now, though there are probably just as many differences. In all, I think Rex could be a good fit for Guilty Gear, both in thematics and in character design. Just look at Rex and try telling me he couldn't work.
I could see it being explained that Rex got to the GG universe through some weird time-space warping. Maybe it could be due to the Alpha nanites, a lot like how those found a way to get Ben Tennyson to Rex's universe for Heroes United. How did Alpha escape the Null Void? That can be ambiguous, just like how it's pretty ambiguous how Lucy got to the Guilty Gear universe... I also kinda want to see Rex and Sin being bros, as I personally feel like the two could get along.
From a gameplay standpoint, just using what I know from playing and watching, I could see Rex having his Specials being his various Builds, mainly the Slam Cannon, Rex Ride, and Big Fat Sword, while his Smack Hands and Punk Busters are used a bit more for his basic attacks. His first Overdrive could be an Install Super, turning his Smack Hands into the Funchucks or the Bad Axes, giving extra power to his hits, while his second Overdrive could be a Cinematic Super with Rex going into his Omega Form... Initially, I had a thought of maybe Rex being a stance switching fighter, but then I looked a bit more into his Builds and found that he doesn't have as many as I thought, so a more standard fighter works better. IF we got Ben into Guilty Gear however, I could see him being a stance switching fighter due to the Omnitrix, a few of his forms being his stances.
Now that I think about it, an ArcSys developed Ben 10 fighting game could be cool. Have it that the roster is filled with different aliens from throughout the Ben 10 universe, BUT Ben could still be a stance switching fighter. Considering that ArcSys could develop the spells for Asuka R Kreutz in Strive, they could probably figure out a way implement the various transformations for Ben... However, I personally think a good way for that to work is probably have it that when choosing Ben, you can choose what transformations you want when selecting your character and have it that certain button combinations transform Ben and give him a different moveset. He would be complicated fighter, but that feels a bit fitting to me for a character that has so many different forms.
I think what I appreciate most about Strive's move design is the clarity of purpose. It's been said before, correctly, that Strive is really good at visually communicating which moves are plus, which are safe, and which are punishable, but beyond that, there's something else that's hard to describe. It's just that, often, it seems like other fighting games go out of their way to prioritize the look of a move over communicating what that move is for, rather than using the look to communicate that.
You watch Goldlewis gameplay and you can instantly clock the general purpose of all his attacks. And they look awesome in motion, clearly communicating the weight and power behind his swings and the inability to simply block them and immediately respond. All the mechanics are wrapped up with the visual design in a way that makes Goldlewis, objectively an overwhelming, framedata-reliant, offense-heavy character, seem unusually comprehensible to players who haven't spent hours studying. I think that's an example more FGs can and should follow; often, preserving "the skill gap" gets in the way of actually making a game that's good, and the way that FGs shamelessly make it impossible to understand basic elements of gameplay until you study framedata and hitboxes is yet another example of this problem.
robo ky for my friend 😄
