Took a walk through the other part of #gharapuri #island or more popularly/commonly known as the Elephanta Island which house the #elephantacaves. About 1200 residents who call the island home. There are 3 villages Kshet Bandar, Raj Bandar and Mora Bandar of which Raj Bandar is the largest. To think of it, more people live in my lane than in the whole of Gharapuri. Quaint little houses, many lovely and brightly painted contrast with decayed ruins of several others. The best views are to be had from the school building which provides panoramic vistas of the other island, #mumbai to the west and Nhava Sheva in the east. #mumbai #elephantacaves #latergram (at Gharapuri, Maharashtra, India) https://www.instagram.com/thelifebulb/p/BwjCwRppLVL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1svnetzx3wbnp

Gharapuri Island
Population of 1,200; part of India; 6.2 square miles.
Interesting fact: on the island are the Elephanta Caves, which is an intricately carved network of caves, reckoned to be at least 1,500 years old.
