Protein and Appetite
A protein rich meal decreases the hunger hormone, gherlin, and increases the satiety hormone, peptide YY.
Sleep Deprived? Could Keep you fat...
Read something interesting earlier today: about how sleep affects weight loss...hmmm! It seems EVERYTHING affects weight loss doesn't it? Well in this article, written by Sue Mah, registered Dietician, and regular contributor to Best Heath Magazine is saying that she read a report out of the Journal of the Academy Of Nutrition and Dietetics and that there IS a correlation between sleep deprivation and weight loss (or gain). Apparently there are two important appetite hormones in our body: gherlin and leptin. Gherlin stimulates our appetite while leptin signals our brains that we are full. When we are sleep deprived, gherlin levels increase and leptin levels decrease. It may also turn on the hormone, cortisol, which we all know is associated with stress and of course that leads to our bodies wanting to store abdominal fat. For the complete article, go grab Best Health, October issue...there are TONS of great tips in it... Merry Christmas everyone. JO
