call for back up – not call for back up –
eunjae nods immediately. he’s down for that idea. it’s a B-rank ghoul; A-class at most. they can handle it. she’s a rank 1. he’s practically a rank 1. it’s a narrow alley, and the ghoul is rabid with hunger. it’ll be easy to take advantage of irrationality; the only downside is the unpredictability of desperation.
“i agree,” he says, turning around and standing at the ready. rc cells form and coagulate; he doesn’t have a quinque in hand, but he has one tearing out of his skin, through his clothes. the bikaku’s pointed tip points at the ghoul, and eunjae faces him with excitement that doesn’t fully translate on his face.
( continued from here ! )
she nods upon hearing eunjae’s agreement— running away wasn’t really sooyoung’s style, so she was happy to learn that they were on the same page. besides, fleeing from a hungry ghoul like this would practically be signing some poor civilian’s death warrant. the two of them can handle it, she’s certain of it. two investigators against this ghoul that she’s never even heard of? well, it’s safe to say that the thing doesn’t even stand a chance.
the corners of her mouth curve upwards into a determined grin when she’s granted the honor of attacking first. the sooner this thing is dead, the better. the ghoul is undoubtedly growing desperate at this point, so it’s sure to make for one hell of an interesting fight (even if it’s obvious who the victors will be). “i wouldn’t have it any other way.”
she rushes towards the ghoul (which isn’t difficult, given the environment), quinque in hand. obviously, this isn’t the most effective strategy, but she remains steadfast and alert throughout her charge. though she does manage to get close enough to make two good, quick slashes, a moment later she finds herself at the mercy of the ghoul’s kagune. she’d hate to admit it, but it did take her a bit by surprise (which she was ultimately at fault for). she blames her recklessness on her company— she tends to let her guard down around other members of the ccg. still, she’s pleased to have gotten the chance to strike first.
it’s a rinkaku-type ghoul— it shouldn’t be too difficult to put the thing down. it had left a nasty gash on sooyoung’s left arm, yet the adrenaline coursing through her veins made it hardly noticeable (if not for the blood now soaking through her clothes, she may not have even noticed it at all). besides, it seemed as if the ghoul felt more pain than she had, so her move was ultimately worth it. despite still being in the way of danger, joy’s confident that she can defend herself for now. sparing one quick glance in eunjae’s direction, she nods as the corner of her mouth rises into a smirk.
